  1. Just wing it as you go like i did..........its no fun if theres not a chance you might die !
  2. 1 of them attached himself to Nigel for the prestige/notoriety that minding a world boxing champion brought when in reality he probably had more wealth than Benn did .....and the other 2 were completely unknown to Benn.
  3. I thought it was going to be Raheem Sterling or the Man Utd centre half Smalling that would be first to " come out " as a bandit .....something not right about them two i didnt think it would be Sturridge though. Klopp seems a good character i read an article that said he,s just got the players enjoying their football again...which usually helps.
  4. Personally i prefer to watch a fight between 2 heavyweights trying to hurt each other than 2 heavyweights desperate not to get hit by each other like last wknd.........we all like to see good efficient technical ability but the fights remembered through the ages are the slugfests thats just how it is.....and make no mistake about it Joshua/Whyte will be trying to hurt each other.
  5. " Break " at one time was universally excepted until American referees decided they would prefer to get in and start wrestling the fighters apart......very rarely did you see the old referee Harry Gibbs ever physically touch any fighter......a referee is not only there to see fair play but is also there to encourage a good fight....but still the basics must be adhered to in my opinion.
  6. To me the biggest derbies have to be the ones that are contested by the biggest clubs that stands to reason...............but biggest certainly doesnt mean best give me the spite and nastiness of a little West Ham/Millwall game played out once in a blue moon to the boring Manc/Liverpool or Arsenal/Spurs games that happen twice every year. For sheer atmosphere the Greeks or the Turks take some beating.
  7. I dont know why such an award exists in the first place......why anyone would be interested in what an athlete thinks or does away from their sport i,ll never understand.
  8. Ambrose always had some good qualities,a good businessman,smart,intelligent,generous,articulate,charismatic,funny..............but.......disloyal.........so the qualities dont matter.
  9. I believe a lot of that is to do with the fact that fighters can do the distance so easily today.......12 rounds is no longer enough to fully test the guts and resolve of a fighter and so the temptation to put the result into the judges hands instead of brawling it out leaves the door open to rematches in controversial decisions.......im of the opinion that the safety measures that are now in place and working enable the 15 round distance to be a viable option again......which i believe would see fighters more willing to duke it out knowing they might not be able to do the distance.......look
  10. I totally agree.....to be able to class the 2 eras as the same sport let alone the same division is almost embarrassing.......ive said for many years there has to come a time when a super heavyweight division comes into professional boxing......to think that hypothetically Tyson Fury would more than likely beat Muhammed Ali surely emphasises my point. But the thing is giants have been in the sport since the beggining, it's just got to a stage where now their skills are sufficient enough to see them beat the smaller yet more skilled opponents. It's far from exciting or action filled but that's

  12. A lot more was made of all that than it actually was but the one man behind most of the madness at that time who was also behind most of the court cases was the only one to come out of it all relatively unscathed and still doing his thing to this day......Ambrose Mendy.
  13. In terms of miles on the clock Collins had far less wear and tear than Benn/Eubank......i dont believe for 1 minute that had Collins fought either man at their peak he would of beaten them,he may well of gone the distance as he was a very tough guy......but for boxing ability and timing he didnt come close. Benn is on record many times as saying Michael Watson was better than all of them.
  14. That love to be hated persona that some sportsmen adopt is a very delicate line that takes a lot of brains to pull off......Muhammed Ali smashed it.....Chris Eubank got away with it........Tyson Fury no im sorry
  15. Its amazing what a non Olympian heavyweight can get away with compared to an Olympian.....Mike Tyson won a world title without ever taking a punch in near 30 fights,he hit opponents after the bell, hit them low,hit them when they was down.....he never even had so much as a point taken away it was all part of the " savage animal " image we was sold.....did anybody moan about his level of competition.....did anybody say they want to see him take big shots....no. Joshua has had what 12/13 fights and folk want to see him in wars !.......The benefit of Olympic medals is the immediate exposure/mo
  16. He,ll be back home for Xmas.....but will be back over here regularly in the next few years as the boxing scene for youngsters over here is so much better. Its worth remembering that they fought each other at their true peaks they didnt wait until one or the other came to the end of their careers before facing them like other British fighters have.......for me it was the last great British boxing rivalry for that reason.
  17. Eubank was a physically hard man and a tough character to break......but for me Nigel was a far more natural fighter......im probably a bit biased towards him but i truly believe that if Nigel had lived the life and dedicated himself in the right way, stayed away from the temptations all top atletes must stay away from.......and stayed with Jimmy Tibbs.........he would of been one of the greatest fighters this country has ever produced and had half a chance.....only half mind you....of beating a peak Roy Jones. Thing his Nigel didn't have the greatest set of whiskers out there, he had the heart

  19. As a boxing fan ive probably always been a bit too critical of Calzaghe saying he was just a fitness freak who could box a bit......he was a very good boxer but like you lads i dont think he can ever sensibly be compared to the likes of Roy Jones there records are almost comical in comparison its like comparing Marcianos record with Muhammed Ali,s !......its the reason all fighters should be encouraged to fight at their highest level during their peak or it leaves too many questions on what should be a competition of proving truth.
  20. The achilles heel for Nigel was always trainers he could never settle on one trainer and kept swapping them i remember as an amateur the 2 fights he had with Rod Douglas were unbelievable fights as amateurs go Vic Andretti had him then and was a good trainer then when he turned pro he went with Brian Lynch who was a joke really....his words of wisdom before a fight would be " just go and smash him up Nige "....then Kevin Sanders was better but still limited.......Dennie Mancini was good and De Freitas was just his mate Nigel still says today if he had spent his career with Jimmy Tibbs theres n
  21. Well i dont fancy topping one of my own birds so might have to be one off the shelf as they say......i only want a little Goldfinch but that Bob Ellis dont do them.....thanks anyway i,ll keep looking.
  22. that last sentence rings very true. I don't fight competitively anymore cause i was sick of being injured/black eyes bust nose etc and started to get worried about long term effects on my health, yet after a couple of years break and starting to train fighters instead, i find myself getting dragged into sparring wars every week, i just can't sit and watch from the outside, it's an addiction. I can't get the adrenaline rush anywhere else apart from being in a fight, so god knows what it's like for Benn and other top fighters who retire and never have that buzz, especially the energy+excite
  23. Saw that on the news earlier makes you quite envious of countries allowed to be left in peace to hold onto their culture and traditions and taking pride in them.......very nice.
  24. Its been great seeing him back over here the new West Ham gym is a far cry from the old one at the Black Lion where he started he,s a bit too deep for me these days and a much changed character but certainly for the better.....the Eubank thing will never come off its an itch that he,s just going to have to live his life without scratching unfortunately and thats the way the fight game can leave you when its in your heart.
  25. Sorry if its a silly question but how does it work with buying taxidermy would i need to provide the corpse ?..... i only want a little bird done but havent really seen what im looking for on the internet sites so thought id ask.
