    Was really pleased with Fern last Saturday, she hunted well in the beating line, then picked up like a pro after i shot. She even found the unfindable bird that 3 Labs, 4 Cockers, 2 Springers and a GWP were all looking for. I can't ask for more from a 2 year old.     As above it depends on where you are shooting, if its inland ponds / Lakes i am sur the would do a job for you, or have a dame good try (hearts like lions). ATB Dave.

    My Lab will squeeze through anything if there is scent there, she flys through rabbit runs in the brambles like a terrier. i suppose only being 21" at the shoulder helps. Dave.

    I keep mine working during the summer rough shooting rabbits, the pace is slower because of the heat and i do water retrieving on very hot days. There is more rest days but i increase the work as we get closer to the season, so the dogs are working fit more or less from the first day of the season. ATB Dave.

    My Lab bitch was in season a few weeks back and missed a shoot day, it just wasnt the same for me as i like the dog work more than the shooting, so i had to take her rough shooting the very next day, just me and her you carnt beat it. ATB Dave.

    hily, as you know mate i am not a spaniel man, although i have owned and trained a cocker x, but i know there is a massive difference for the dogs between a driven shoot day and a day rough shooting. My Lab bitch hunts well with more staminar than most labs, she can beat on a driven day and do a bit of picking up with plenty of energy, as you say there is regular breaks and time to regain there energy and she takes these days in her stride, but a days rough shooting will take it out of her, she will work at a high tempo for 4 hours non stop then start to slow down which i feel is not bad when

    If you go onto Guns on pegs website you can put an advert in the classifieds. But you can also look at the map with all their registered shoots on (which there is loads in the North East) you can then contact them direct as their email details are listed. You may get a response,you may not as the details are there for people who would like shooting to reply to, but you never know. ATB Dave.

    Weekend off on our Shoot so i went up to fill up the hoppers and do a few odds and sods. One of the perks of a work day is a bit of rough shooting afterwards round the edges of our driving the birds back into the centre of the shoot. So with Fern missing the last day due to her season, i took her for a run out. Flushed about 20 odd birds back into the shoot (well most went in that direction) and took 2 for the pot. A nice chilled day, just me and the dog. ATB Dave.
