i think this may be the bitch your talking about.

i think with most working lads. natural selection. (survival of the fittest) comes into play. but some folk are a little kennel blind. and allow the rose tinted specs to come into play and not only keep but breed off dogs with faults. useing the old. its a working terrier patter. it works fine with three legs. or it doesnt need its eyes. its pitch black down there anyway any sensible dog owner will guard against breeding faults into there stock. allthough the methods may be different

steady light snow with us just now. nothing sticking though as yet. i dont fcuking want it either as i'll be up and down to inverness (dingwall) where ever the feck that is. and hate driveing in snow any dingwallians on here. whats it like at your bit should i bring my dog or gun. or camera

the thing is. you dont want bad mouths appearing in every other litter of working terriers. as with most things it comes in degree's and breeding off a terrier with a bad mouth even a slight bad mouth and you are putting this into your terriers. when in reality you should be trying to avoid faults creeping in. the average litter percentage that make good workers isnt as high as folk think and if you have also to cull a percentage due to bad mouths. you could well be culling your best workers due to them being born with a fault . there are bad mouths right through most lines of working terrie

Old values, do they still exist
Cleanspade replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
the real issue here i think is that a lot of lads that breed good terriers do it for the right reasons and over many years try to perfect there art. when they are getting on in years they can look back and see the mistakes they have made . so avoid making more by using hindsight.. and then they have to place some of these pups in young hands. this is soul destroying for the older lads as (some fall on stony ground ) its called the generation gap. i deal with a lot of late teen early twenties lads at work. and ive four i bred myself and all bar none. know more than me about anything. they -
i would like to learn more about A I. . it must be a handy tool for folk with rare breeds. like the wheaten.. and it would help spead the genes of proven workers / producers. just imagine if you could get a line off old bill brightmores stuff or the old buck/brey lines. the laky boys could get a straw off chowt faced rock the beddy lads could get stuff from dobsons terriers . i wouldnt mind getting some off my ozzy. for future use . ps hope you had a good new year stevo

19 inch span to big for ground work?
Cleanspade replied to Bigjoe90's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i dont want to be the one that says your dogs to big. but at 19 inch its a giant for a terrier mate. if it is strong built its far to big for a general earthdog. some folk find use of a big dog but they generally have a handy sized terrier to carry it. 19 inch is the size of a small lurcher. and nine times out of ten its going to run into trouble getting. i like a big dog but i use them on top a lot now. and i used to do a lot of farm dumps and stone drains etc. if you open your pic in paint there is an option to resize your pics in there -
thats not a bad mount. i recon it just needs some tlc. it would be good for an enthusiast to give it an overhaul and repost a pic. before and after. good luck with the sale.

just found this. i'm just coming up to the year. stick with it. i started with patches and an inhilator i'm off the patches but still have my little puffer just as a dummy teat . but remember and be really proud of yourself and give yourself a pat on the back every now and then. and to all the fence sitters. GO FOR IT. you know you want to.

a third off has allways worked for me when i had the odd litter i would allways check for rear dewclaws and they would be removed. but the front ones i left on. my old russell used to lick his due claw and clean his eyes with them. some dewclaws are set tight and low. i feel thse are of use to the dog. but some are set higher up the leg and are loose. these are no use this is just my observations.

what breed would you say transformed the terrier world ??
Cleanspade replied to Wxm's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
the very first black terrier i saw was around twelve inch tts and it had a coat like a cairn. i asked the fella what it was and he told me it was a black patterdale. but had took more to the sealyham. in its background this would have been 1980.
