sorry but WTF you cant be serious about releasing foxes thats a good way to be kicked off a farm if the farmer finds you releasing foxes to keep killing his lambs we always used to let some run for another day. that was the benefit of bolting into nets.

A realist at last .good on yer mate nothing wrong with keeping it real fella's . I have had one or two terriers around me for as long as i can remember. starting with little black an tan border/lakies. and blacks. these where well bred little fuks and far to foolhardy for me. due to a move from lancashire to lanarkshire i ended up with russells. they suited me better. after a while i felt like i needed a change in direction so purchased. (for washers) a plummer. she has exelled at everything asked of her and i have to say she flies to ground and works fox with gusto. she is on th

ive just found a pair of peregrines in a working quarry. they work as a pair one either end of the quarry. when a bird flies past . the first one pushes it down along the face. then the other on ambushes it. havnt been able to get a pic. but have had the nest pointed out to me , and an invite to go back early next year. stunning birds, first ones ive seen. :D and hats off to anyone that has captured pics of these in flight. in the wild

anyone with a lot of ground to cover. and lots of foxes will have a bolting terrier. as the most important tool in the box. i despair sometimes i really do. used the right way most terriers will make good bolters. its not all about the dog. its about a partnership. and how the dog is used. if you plod all over the earth and make a racket. stick your head down the holes every two minutes . the chances of a bolt are slim. however if you go canny and stay downwind slip the dog from a distance. more often than not your fox will be out. and out sharpish . and BANG. its in the bag, now heres the t

ive never been one for the black dogs. ive seen a few work to a standard but to be honest the majority of of the ones ive seen have been to brash. taking far to much damage . i know they arnt all to hard and i know there are strains of steady bay and mix types but in general as a breed they are retired to early if given regular work . very brave little terriers and to be admired. ( as long as they are in someone elses kennel) i'll stick to more versitile terriers. i dont do a lot of rats. the odd one or two about the farmyards. as for earthwork. again just the odd one here and there now .

what defines a working terrier?
Cleanspade replied to the durham digger's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
digging dog. earth dog. working terrier. sporting terrier .show dog and never the twain shall meet. it doesnt work like that. as any one dog can fit in most of these catagories . below ground only. . (specialist) earthdog multi tasker, including work below to a lesser standard . (none specialist) sporting terrier. i now mainly keep sporting terriers i no longer need a specialist. although i keep one. as i like and admire real quality . but need versatility -
i often wonder why some folk have so much to say on subjects they obviously know very little about. .

what defines a working terrier?
Cleanspade replied to the durham digger's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I have seen excellent digging dogs refuse to go in thick cover............ I think you would describe that has a working terrier that doesnt like cover. in that case i would have to kennel extra dogs to do the jobs the (working) terrier is incapable of. -
they are totally different animals. and i'm sure you will get the exeptions in both breeds. but in general the plummer as a breed is very hard to beat on top. but below ground they arnt in the same league as patts. allthough you do get plummers that work well to ground . and you do get patts that are very versitile. for an allrouder above and below i find a good work bred russell is hard to beat especially if you land on older lines that arnt soaked in lakie blood. jmho
