when i went to see his terriers a good few years ago. he had a very varied type. and varied price range also. ive no idea what he has now. but have seen one or two very nice terriers from his stock. couldnt have called them small though. is some of his stock not registered as parson russells now. ?

nice sort redwall. ive never allowed my dog to stud. but when i see those i wonder if i may have been wrong they look just nice for all round rabbit work lamping ferretting etc.
-
she was brilliant in her time. god knows what she's like now. best left to memories i reckon
-
whats this redwall. crackin sort

chapman bred some nice neat terriers. is this still the case.

ive seen a few smaller terriers recently but they wasnt small , they where still on the leg. but had poor bone. very fine . almost toy looking. the ones i had where around 10.-12 itts. and had good bone .compact. rarely ever see them now. strange really as they where the best made for the job. fashion and fancy has put them out of the picture i reckon. because some of em could really work.

i was looking for small working terriers. and talking to a few lads.. a while back. the subject has cropped up again and to be honest. i cant say i see the smaller terriers around these days. 25 years ago these where the norm. a lot of kennels bred them consistently and they done the job just fine. and to be honest some of these little dogs still had to dig up to the foxes. where are the smaller strains. built for fox control. consitently producing terriers . that will fit and work to a good standard. i was going to put this as a russell thead but it would be interesting to throw this at

dont know if this has been on http://rspcainjustice.blogspot.co.uk/

i never could understand why folk start terriers so young. nothing what so ever to be gained. everything to lose. just a waste imo. could have been a good dog if allowed to mature into an adult before entering. each to there own i suppose

When Should The Terrier Travel ?
Cleanspade replied to fox assasin's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i wont encourage a dog to run an earth but i like to see a dog run through. we have had both sorts. they all have there place. and they all have uses. the main problem ive had with dogs that travel empty earths is the time it takes to net up every earth.not a big problem to be honest. the only time ive seen it be a serious problem is when the dogs are on the big side. . scenting ability has to be up there with size and voice as essential qualities in earth working terriers. i dont believe for one minute that there is a strain of terriers that mark on top 100%. and dont produce young terriers -
Scotland Tam Parker Memorial Show
Cleanspade replied to events co-ordinator's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
nice show. all went well. and the weather was good. the judge did a good job from what i saw. cant help thinking the standard of terrier has gone down over the last decade. there was a memorial class for tam. and it was won by a dog called Tam. -
good post and would'nt be out of place in any working terrier breed thread. good luck with your beddies

well thats five minutes i'll never get back

ive had crossbreds way back in the day i bred some russell x plummers. dont have pics sorry. so i cant really compare them to other plummers. just other breeds -
one of my daughters suffers from terrible seisures and my jack russell woke us up at 3 in the morning just in time to save her life. she was trapped when she fell had bit her tongue and was upside down choking. ive no doubt he saved her life.

i'm old school and think its more to do with manners and a little consideration . breast feeding i agree with. its better for baby. but wapping your tit out willy nilly in cafes. shops and busy public area's to me seems inapropriate and unnesesary (spelling.) its lazy and disorganised. and would make me uncomfotable. (no idea why) but a lot of the women whipping em out would be the first to complain if you where looking down there cleavege on a night out. . i asked a young lady not long ago if she was uncomfortable breastfeeding in public and she said no she just saw her pap as food no

Most Formidable Quarry Plummer Terriers Work
Cleanspade replied to uru's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i'm not beating the drum for plummers Tufty just stated ive one that suits me. to be fair she isnt a run of the mill plummer. a bit of an oddity really. a big gangly bitch. nothing to look at but . a crackin allrounder. not everyones cup of tea and not a digging dog. more a dog thats been dug to a few times. -
sadly these traits are all to common in the breed.. one of mine is dog aggressive . but there are some decent lines. and to be fair a lot of plummers are hunted in large packs so this couldnt be tolerated . ive kept some very dog aggressive russells. patts are noted for producing these traits also but they arnt all bad. plummers arnt a long way off the mixed breeding they started with and are very varied. all the best

Most Formidable Quarry Plummer Terriers Work
Cleanspade replied to uru's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i have one here that works fine for me uru. she works like a small hound on top and like a hound goes to ground on occasion. she is a capable fox dog. but on the big side. so very limited for fox control but as an all round pester hard to better. she has been dug to on a few occasions and faired well. i'm sure there are many like her tucked away.i have no reason to lie ive another plummer that never made the grade and havnt bred a litter of plummers. i would own another if i could find one like her -
without doubt the best work written on the terriers. some of the old pictures alone are worth the price of the book. also worth a read are nathen. and the training and entering the jack russell terrier. @ uru
