  1. last year . killer spiders sold a few copies. i agree you wont control ALL.rats without modern methods . but you have to admit in the right hands a terrier or two can do a lot of damage. another tool in the bag . says a lot about the times when folk will change laws to help killing with poisons but dont want them killed quickly with trained dogs.
  2. I've just the JOB ! as recommended, with more than a hint of Sealyham .Sort out that Snipey head Rooster.JPG Your welcome does he eat foxes whole mate. its just that there is one comming out of his arse in that pic.
  3. If that Plummer was an earth dog then I'd see it as no different than any other type (breed) BUT in the world of working terriers worker to worker is only the best base line option, far more thought is needed when you want the best from a union. have a like.
  4. CS, It would depend on the man asking for the service. Does he intend calling the pups Plummers? My answer would be no as he is fooling himself. I would ask him how he believes my dog will improve the working ability of his line. If he had a good reason to want to improve the line...maybe yes. Does his line have health issues. Definitely No. Just my take on it. fair play. .
  5. in real life i'm sparticas good hunting to you all. out of interest how many of you working lads would allow your dog to cover a plummer. and if not why not . .
  6. hepher you are right to have an opinion. but you could word it better. no wonder folk dont post pics as much now. if digdeeper likes his terriers with a bit of bully. thats his choice. he feeds and walks em. the hardest bite i saw on a terrier was an A C. bred bitch she had a little head and snipey jaw. but fcuck me she had a bite like a T.rex. lol
  7. was up at M Cs bit working at a local farm. its not a teckel its a dach
  8. ive a couple of paintings done and framed. one of my best plummer and one of my first russell. ive a few pics of the dogs i would like framed but her indoors is filling the house with pics of the grandkids lol. not terriers but i love this pic
  9. he was born and bred in this country. and his name is Hamish. that makes him a scot. lol
  10. pablo. .... ive never sold a plummer or bred a pup out of any of my plummers. we do have this fella. though. cost an arm and a leg. like most german dogs.
  11. he wanted to follow in the footsteps of the reverand john russell. and her doberman .
  12. KC. reg parson. solid worker. nothing special but honest enough. we also had a full KC wire fox terrier that flew to ground. lol. the parson was from very consistent lines all registered as howlbeck.
  13. colour. why did bill brightmore keep mainly black . preferance as long as its not a priority i dont see the harm in it. (maybe i am nieve. ) there is a sort of snobbery within the breed as there is in any breed that has a passionate following. there are also some real cranks'. also as in all breeds/types. the plummer is not just a russell its a russell variant. created through using many breeds. it could be said its just an unregistered beagle cross. it has a very heavy bull influence is it maybe just a bull terrier. cross. some certainly look like small bulls. russell or patterdale t
  14. Thats the point stranger they aint out and out digging dogs. they are versitile terriers used for pesting. ratting rabbiting shooting. and the odd fox. would an earthdog be the answer as an outcross. or would something like the jagd be more suitable. being also a jack of all trades. the nose would be kept with a jagd. i go on a plummer site and 90% of the working owners prize nose and intelligence highly. very few owners use them strictly for earthwork. allthough there are a few'. personally i would use beagle before slt.
  15. all unregistered breeds are only a type. some registered breeds also have working variations' ie. working border TYPE. terrier. no worse for it. and often better sorts imho.
  16. i would agree that the lens is the most important. but put it on a 350d and you are limiting its capabilities. i would upgrade tha bodu also. you will pay buttons to uprade to a used body with better capabilities. as the 350 has a small sell on value also.
  17. there are plenty good russells still being worked and bred.. the new crossing fancy breeds is nothing new. and wont affect good working lines
  18. a lot of the working russells north of the border had a strong infuence from the plummer. especially when the smaller terriers where in vogue. some cracking little workers as well. even then they could be bad fighters.
  19. don't you think the plummer was / is just a type line that was pushed into the limelight because of egos ---I know lads that have put smooth Russell over plummer bitches and the pups that come with the right markings have been passed off as plummers someone with a big enough ego could take the lakie chuck a Russell over it then a bit off westie and call it the jonesy terrier spend a few years fooking about with it hold a few breed shows with nice big rossettes -----and really that's all the plummer terrier was/is. a mix of dogs passed off to boost someones ego . your correct of course b
  20. i disagree that the plummer will disapear. i feel the problem is they will get more popular. with the resulting indescriminate breeding. my choice would be a russell or patt. from well bred working lines. but an slt. beggers belief. i have no litters planned and dont see myself breeding in the near future. but i have taken a real liking for the breed and it would be good to see more done to protect and improve the stock thats about. there are signs things may improve so hopefully stig is wrong on this one. there will be plummers around for a very long time to come. the standard they work to wi
  21. THERE IS AN ARTICLE IN THE cmw. that champions the sporting lucas terrier as a possible outcross for the breed. i agree the breed needs an outcross program but feel that although the slt. is an obvious choice due to its relationship with the plummer. i cant help feeling an established line of working terrier is the only way to improve on whats already in the gene pool. what would you use to improve a breed keen to keep its swiss army knife reputation. as an alrounder. and why.
