i have no old pics of plummers or the crosses wm. none worth posting anyways. i was allways a russell man. through and through. i often wonder why i got into plummers. liked the look of them i suppose. but i have to admit the stick they get is way over the top. they can be very usefull. as multi taskers . we bred the pups off wizard to try to produce handy sized russells as the bitch we had was tiny and very handy. if i had my time again i would put a well bred little russell over her. and dodge the smoke and mirrors of plummer world. lol
this pic is from the same era. (early eighties. an
a white russell type dog has been found in the above area. broken coated. the folk that found him handed him into the E.K. police station. it will probably end up at bothwell if not claimed soon. if you know anyone that has lost a russell please pass this on
this is the usual. a fella puts a thread up about his working dogs and it gets hijacked. and goes off a tangent. sad really. as there is stuff on these threads that a lot of folk find interesting. when the blowhards start bickering these threads get ruined or worse deleted. for the record ive seen plummers and crossbred plummers put in a half decent account of themselves on fox. i never paid more than an average price for a pup and paid next to nothing for one. ive been offered gift pups on a regular basis.beleive it or not some plummer owners are common a garden working dog folk. that have a
usual suspects spoiling what was an interesting thread. by genuine enthusiasts of the working qualities of this breed.. no wonder folk dont post. Darcy. you seem to pop up on most plummer threads.. with little short worded jibes. . for a man with many books you would think you could string a few words together about your own dogs and exploits with them. for this section. what are you working at the moment. J D. AND HOW IS YOUR SEASON GOING. YIS.
my half cross has been no problem. not due to him being calm or steady. but due to the fact that i make sure he is under control at all times. inside and out. any problems ive had has been due to other dog owners neglecting to show the same respect for there wards . as for temprement he is just what i expected . if i had wanted something a little steadier i would have opted for a lab cross. or maybe poodle.
i dont believe overpriced pups help the breed work wise. but i would have paid a fair lump for the right sort when i got my old bitch. luck was with me and she was dirt cheep. however i have to wonder. if i had paid a fortune would she have been shite. and if the same bitch was gifted would she have been a superdog. the answer is she would have been the same. i would be looking for the best dog not the best price. within reason of course
its thanks to folk that travelled for working stock that there is still some work in them. a lot of the older owners valued ability above anything else crackin old pics
