  1. Just crossed my mind. What will you be running next year? TC
  2. To be honest, I think that anyone who owns and likes a collie x has to have a certain mind set. You have to enjoy working with the qualities that the cross brings to the table, and moulding those qualities to suit the type of hunting you do. If you are the type of person who likes a point and shoot type of dog then forget the collie cross as they are defiantly going to be smarter than you. TC
  3. To be honest, I never gave a dog freedom, I am a bit of a control freak as far as dogs go. The dog may think it is doing as it likes but it must be under control at all times. I had always trained my dogs the same as you would train a gundog. In retrospect it is a fair bet that I did not get the best out of the dogs. It was only when I trained a GWP that the penny dropped with me and I realised that a dog can be half a mile away from you and still be under control. That said as long as the dog is not running wild (under control) and is focused on the job at hand there is no reason why you
  4. That rings a bell, when she was about 6 I bought a replacement for her. I must be honest that pup had more drive and speed than she ever had, but not a quarter of her brain power. Needless to say he did not make it past two. TC
  5. they can pick up "bad" habits just as quick as "good" ones. But those dogs that stay in my mind are the ones whose habits looked bad, but turned out to be a godsend Funnily enough, when I read about collies stalking on here, I always have a wry smile on my face. She put so many rabbits in the bag by stalking and rushing it was unbelievable. Rabbit sitting on hedge, usually my fault for not using the wind properly, and she would stalk it out of the beam and rush it, it inevitably ended up in the bag. TC
  6. I have heard of collie crosses doing all sorts of odd things. But have never read on here of a fault that one bitch I had did. Every now and then usually after about 15 rabbits but not always, she would start running rabbits with her head up, turning the rabbits but not striking. Then for some reason only known to her, after doing this for anything between 3 and 7 rabbits she would put her head back down and carry on as normal. To be honest it really wound me up at first but I got used to it in the end. I tried a few "remedies" but none worked. The thing is there was no rhyme or reason tha
  7. Thank feck no one has called them "wolfs" so far on this thread, still time I suppose though. TC
  8. And been illegally in possession of a gun that could have got me 5 years inside? With a receipt from a reputable auction house to say the gun is below 12ft lb? That would be a bit harsh would it not? TC
  9. What you have all been arguing about with the power of the bite is all irrelevant. As it is the type of bite inflicted as opposed to the power of the bite that is effective. TC
  10. Better get a turbo on it. Note to everyone with the tut tut rolling eyes answers: I have never owned a lurcher till now, hence the questions. Note to the people with decent answers: Thanks. To my mind, if your new to training a new breed of dog, you ask before you proceed if your not sure. There are some self professed dog experts on here that I would not trust with a photo of a dog yet alone a real live one. TC I will ask before I train him for anything. I just want him to enjoy being a pup for the minute. Nothing wrong with that what so ever. Just be ca

  12. I thought of it all by myself. why? There is one reason in the quote above. Get some discipline into him before you start letting him chase. Can you imagine the state of a rabbit after he has stopped ragging it? Won't even be fit for ferret food. TC
  13. Who told you to do that? Or did you just come up with the idea yourself? TC
  14. Australia were flagging against Argentina, they will have no chance the speed with which the All-Blacks play the game. Plus they will have had one less days rest. All Blacks for me by a big margin. TC
  15. Should be a good final and Nigel Owens is the ref. At least there will be one Welsh man on the pitch. TC
  16. See even your contributing to the development, when a thread is dying through lack of interest a tangent often gives it a bit more longevity. The tangent often appeals to members who were not inclined to post on the original topic. Hence developing the thread to a wider audience. TC
  17. It's called thread development, have a look at all the other threads they all end up the same. Fact of life here I am afraid. Funnily enough, it usually precedes the end of a thread. So in that case I would be grateful if I were you that the thread has lasted longer than it's natural course. TC
  18. I do find it amusing when, people are banned then a "NEW" ID starts posting only to find out he was registered 8 to 10 years ago but had never made a post. The only problem with that is people are creatures of habit, and that includes sayings and writing, it really does make them transparent. TC
  19. Sitting here, with tears running down my face. I could not listen to the link Wilf put up, it really would have cracked me up. TC
  20. so where is my sloe gin?oh duh!! i dont drink That's lucky, cos I have not made any. TC
