Well, i would have too 'differ' with you, on that one,...cause, you can still contribute, & give away just a 'little', (as well, as 'telling all', if you want) ?,...you see it, all the time ?,.., some folk, just offer some 'words of wisdom', & some will offer a 'hint' or two ?,.....& then you can just 'generalise',.....everyones entitled to 'participate', how they like, surely (well, within limits, i suppose) Post like you quote above are generally very welcome. It's the "I am not telling you anything" posts that are a complete and utter waste of time. The only reason they ma

As above no one is forcing you to divulge your trade secrets. Have nothing to say, then don't post, instead of making a song and dance about how your not going to give away your secrets. Simple really when you think about it. TC

Great White Egret---Little Egret
Tiercel replied to CRAZYHORSE's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
This little bugger was playing hide and seek with me, every time I was getting closer, he would turn his back and walk further out. TC -
The minimum temperature here last night was 9.3C now if that is low enough to give you frost you can sell your Rotavator and I will dig your garden for you. Check for yourself. http://www.llanelliweather.co.uk/ Edited to add: As an after thought, there is a hell of a difference between dew and frost. TC

May the 6th is considered that there will not be any more frost here. Dependant as to where your living the date will be different. North later and further south earlier. But that is not set in stone many have been caught out, including myself. I am not 100% sure but there is something in manure that makes the carrots fork, same with parsnip. I am sure that I have growing notes for a compost for growing Parsnip and Carrots somewhere. I will see if I can dig it out. (Pardon the pun unintended) TC
-
nah just the snips ,i dont do carrots at the moment ,we are just building the depth up in the beds, only have the one deep enough at the moment and carrots are not on the list for that one ! out of curiosity how long after filling beds with manure "decent stuff" would you attempt growing carrots in it ? as to get some organic matter in to start building the depth we filled some up BACK END 2014 . we started with a patch of concrete that we dug up to turn into a veg patch when we moved in in 2013 so it an on going project ! The recommended time between manuring and planting carrots is at

Some working foxes of John Gaunt. He was a rat catcher on the railway and used foxes as he reconed they were better than dogs at killing rats. TC

nice one was it quick..seen a few racy ones about .did it ever catch much, how was the marking She was a small boxer, not too sure she was pedigree. One thing was certain if she rose a rabbit it was dead, she could follow a scent that was a couple of hours old so the rabbit either went to ground or she caught it, it was one or the other. Often she would rise a rabbit and run off into the distance chasing it, I would follow and she would come back to me, I would tell her then "where is it" and she would follow the drag right to either the warren or the dead rabbit. That's the good part, b

Beautiful fish anyone would be proud to catch that. Do a lot of springers come in with a kype, or could it be a second time in fresh water fish? TC

That looks an interesting read but my phone won't open a pdf file tiercel.I will look later on the laptop when my lad has gone to bed. But surely the effects would be similar for the fox in the UK. But it's a guess I can't read it yet. From what I have read, there is after a time lag, a reduction in the number of foxes in an area hit by mixie or VHD, usually through smaller litter sizes. However, the remaining foxes do diversify in their feeding habits. As an omnivore they will eat more plant matter also more field voles. TC

A fairly detailed paper on the effects of VHD on the red fox in Australia. http://www.southwestnrm.org.au/sites/default/files/uploads/ihub/saunders-g-et-al-2004-diet-foxes-vulpes-vulpes-south-eastern-australia.pdf Edited to add: There does seem to be no definite date as to when the red fox was introduced to Australia I have seen three different dates so far. Ranging from 1833 to 1870 which one is the true date is hard to tell. Also this article only states what the surviving foxes fed on it does not give the density of foxes in affected areas. TC
-
The rabbit was in Australia before the fox by around 50 years. No doubt they did take advantage of the natural fauna for food, but still had to compete with the Dingo for what food was available. TC
-
That's odd as when I suggested to you to crown them you said this. Then a little while later you came out with. TC
-
King I am willing to stand corrected but I think the European fox Vulpes vulpes was introduced to Australia in 1833 by which time there was already a plague of rabbit as they had been introduced in 1788 and had bred like rabbits. So from the off I would have said there would have been plenty for them to eat. When mixie was introduced in the 1950's I would have thought that there would have been a big population crash of the red fox. Perhaps one of our Australian members can give us more info? TC
-
That will vary from area to area. say for an example you have an area with a high population of rabbits then the fox population will increase to the level of the food available. Take away the food source as in Mixie or VHD and there will be a population crash on the animals that need the rabbits for food. TC
