  1. Buster, Your never too old to learn, I was in my 30's when I first started long netting, and to be honest it was the best move I ever made. Some people get what long netting is about, some don't. It is not about the numbers of rabbits caught, it's about the whole experience, from keeping an eye on the weather, to finding drops that will suit different wind directions, access to the drops so that you do not get winded, if you enjoy a challenge and don't mind failing and learning from failing, then long netting at night could be for you. However, if you just see it as a way of catching l
  2. The reason I do not like 6z is. Nylon stretches 4" in 210/12 4z stretches enough for a full grown rabbit to get it's head through the meshes. 210/18 6z has less than half the stretch of 4z. So 6z in a 4" mesh does not stretch enough to allow a full grown rabbit to get it's head though a mesh. Therefore you are relient on the rabbit tangling in the mesh to catch it. Because the twine in 6z is a third heavier than than 4z it is not as inclined to tangle as freely as the twine is stiffer. That said, 6z in 4.25" mesh is a different kettle of fish, the extra 1/4 of an inch allows full grown rab
  3. I can only echo what CJ has just stated. Nelson I have never heard a bad word agaist him. The only fault I could possibly see is that he only sells 6z nets, but there again that is what most people want, but they would not suit me. Also as C Joe stated I would not go for a 100 yard net but break them down into smaller nets, think about your ground, if its large fields I would go for smaller nets as rabbits run the hedges not across big open fields. 4. All you need is bars to guide the boat onto the trailor, any cross wind or strong tide combined with a swell can make trailering a difficult job. Idealy you need two sets one at the end of the trailer the same width as the widest part of the boat and another set near the front the same width apart as the part of the boat that sits there. It is best if you get them made to make them on brackets that can be bolted to the trailer, as the trailer is glavanised and you will not get a strong enough weld on the galv. Bolting them also gives you the option of moving them if they do not suit. T
  5. The best way for Bindweed Convulvulous which has waxy leaves, is to get an old glove and dip it in the Roundup then smear the leaves with the weed killer. Best way to do it is to put on a pair of Marigolds then put the old glove on over the marigold then rub the weedkiller into the leaves this breaks the wax on the leaves and allows the weedkiller to get down to the roots. TC
  6. Those are not guide bars, in any type of a swell they will be useless and could damage the boat. TC
  7. if your looking at night for peelers stick to shallow rocky water and just pick up the cock crabs carrying peelers. The cock crabs carry hens that are about to peel to make sure that they can mate with them once they peel, so they tend to be a bit aggresive. Not really worth searching for any other type. if you get jellies or soft crab leave them where they are as they do not keep and it's odds on they are pregnant. When you get the females from under the cocks keep them dry in the fridge untill the side of the carapis starts splitting these I have found are the best bait of all. Crabs ne
  8. Sodium chloride nothing will grow there for over a year, as seeds germenate in the ground they are killed. It is sold in many forms such as path and patio weed killer. TC
  9. The rate I have lost leads over the years if I had to pay for them it would have cost me a fortune. as has been said learn to do a simple eye splice that is all you need, oh and some tidy rope. As I live on the coast a walk along the shore will bring up some old pot rope. really strong stuff, sometimes the lay is so hard you need a Fid to splice it. To be honest one of those leads would last a lifetime, if they did not get lost all the bludy time.... I have theory that they run off with all the odd socks and pens in this house. TC
  10. Good sturdy little boats Cobles, you might want to put some guide bars on the trailer makes launching and trailering a hell of a lot easier. TC

  12. Well the Lions series is well and truley over, what a roller-coaster of a series it was too. Plenty of highs and lows, it was good to see the unity for the Lions in this thread. A special thanks to our resident expert Johnny for his insight and punditry. An old cynic like myself was not surprised we lost the second test, ( I doubt you would have had plus thousand attendance for the last test if we had won it.) But it's done and dusted now. Time to look forward to the A I tests and a new thread where we can be once again partisan. The Autumn test schedule for Wales. Saturday, 9 Nov
  13. Can't sleep it's too bludy warm so watched it again. We still won! TC
  14. Just for curiosity's sake. This coming 6 nations, do you think the lions tour will have a detremental effect on the Welsh chances? In that the other nations will have had a look-see into Gatlands game plans, you know the ones, up the middle and smash them, and then theres smash them up the middle before we go wide? Seriously though, do you think that he previously wanted to play a team like he fielded today, but felt it was politically incorrect? Just wondering like mun. TC
  15. Only saw the last twenty minutes. Ohhh boy!!!!!Off to find Jonnys link to watch the whole match on youtube. B&I Lions :toast: TC
  16. Now all you ney-sayers who said this thread should be locked pages ago. Would you please apologies? As a lot of good has come out of this thread. When threads develop and go off at a tangent you never quite know how it will pan out, sometimes as in this thread a person is helped and a lot of us who keep quiet about what we don't know are helped along the way. TC
  17. While I agree that some people, myself included have trouble with spelling and grammer, they should not be penalised for it. That said, it really is hard to decipher some posts, so I just dont bother. Even though the poster may be making a valid point, because it is so hard to read it is usually ignored. When you read a post and can understand what the person is saying you take them far more seriously. Well done Paul, without trying to be condescending I bet that feels good? TC
