    About 12 or so years ago we just had the mealy amazon, then friends of ours who were parrot crazy sold their house then got gazumped on the house they were buying. They had to go into rented accomidation that did not allow pets. For 3 months we had 2 orange winged amazons, A pair of eclectus, one bald afirican grey and the mealy amazon in the same house. The noise when one started off was horrendus they would all join in with all their own favorite sayings.N Never again. TC

    If it does not like males it is probably a male and see's all males as competition. We have a DNA sexed female Guatamalan mealy amazon and she is not keen on the females in the house, she tolerates them but that is about it, where as I can do anything with her. I would say that he would not change. TC

    PK have you tried using stays on the up tide side of the gill net? All they are are pieces of rope tied to the head line and dug in to the sand they stop the net flattening out in the tide and create a U shaped belly in the net. You can also add wash balls to them to create more bouyancy than just the net floats. TC

    Nice bit of rigging PK if you are worried about the flat fish going through the hangings why dont you rig it Danish rig? That is designed for flat fish. What you have to remember is if a net is anchored in a run of tide, as in a beach net laid across the run of tide no matter how much buoyancy the floats give, will lay flat for most of the net. Remembering the rule of 12ths 1st hour 1/12th 2nd hr 2/12ths 3hr 3/12ths 4hr 3/12ths 5hr 2/12ths 6th hr 1/12th you can predict by dividing the height of the tide by 12 how much water and run of tide will be affecting you net by it's placement on the

    I was out the back mending a net when I heard the Jackdaws going mad, then I heard why, the deep kronk kronk of a Raven, it is not unusual to have one come and land on the pylon near the house, but when I looked up there was a family of them six in all. Poor photos sorry. Then some moved off and left two calling like hell. TC

    It does not matter if the net swings parallel to the beach in the tide as fish swim accross the tide as well as with the tide. A heavy piece of chain on the seaward end of the net would help the net straighten out in the tide. Or you could lay the net parallel to the water with the chain on the up tide side of the net. and wait for the tide to lift it. A long piece of 6mm tied to the chain would ensure the net did not get away from you. TC

    have a like on me Mal. I come in this section all the time and read the posts as I just love watching birds. Never even thought about keeping them though. The dawn corus is tailing off here and already I miss it, sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee and the back door open just listening to the corus is aboslute heaven. My favourite must be a blackbird singing just after rain. So clear. Even the Chaffinch with the repitious song is music to my ears. TC

    Just wondering if anyone has used Bungy elastic for catapults? I was using an old bungy for a job yesterday and the outer core split and exposed the elastic inner core, that was three strands of rubber two thin outers and a thicker middle piece. TC

    I think that SOB apart there are no surprises there. A few that could be mentioned are Maitland over Hogg and the absence of Tips on the bench, but Hogg and Tips played this week so there could be nothing in it. What does worry me is who is going to cover fragile Sam as with the amount of knocks he has had this year i feel they may well target him? TC
