  1. Sorry not for sale lads, just showing how they can be made. It was about 5 years ago I made the last lot and I am down to my last two. Trouble is I cannot get at any of my tools now, the shed is so full of rubbish. I just posted as The Gaffer was saying there were not many posts in that craft section. TC
  2. I make them any size I have some 25mm x 30mm wide by 10 inches long, others are 20 x 25mm again 10" long. I have even made some 12" long for making trammel outers. The 25x30 hold a hell of a lot of twine. I find about 10" is the optimum length any longer and it really slows down your knitting. TC
  3. I thought I would do a post on how I make my wooden Norwegian type netting needles. I use whatever hard woods I have. Oak is my favourite with Ash a close second. I have made them from Iroko, Sapele, and even Igdobo although that did not last long. I start off with a blank trimmed to the correct size. Then cut the edges of the channels. Next I drill a hole at the top of the channels, route out the channels and shape the outer bit of the nose of the needle. The next step is to cut out the inside of the nose of the needle. The next step is to finish t

    Stop Net

It took me many years to figure it out, once I did though my catches improved. There are a few "rules," but they are not set in stone as once you think you have figured it out they will throw something new at you. A few "rules" I have found, others will tell you different. Not all warrens are the same some are temporary dwellings some are permanent. On open ground with no cover I have found that with the temporary ones they will bolt quicker, and usually / but not always head for the nearest permanent one. The reasons they use the temporary warrens can be many fold, but mainly it is the ne

    Stop Net

There's nowt wrong with that net. it will catch no problem. There is an old saying, "five yards in the right place will catch more than a hundred in the wrong place." and how true that is. TC
  6. I never allow my dogs to touch rabbits in the net, if the rabbit slips the net then it's fair game. But until it does hands off. A lot of people like their dogs to grab rabbits that are already caught and hold them till they get there, nothing wrong with that, apart from the fact that it ties the dog up from other possible bolters. How many times does a rabbit hit a net to be followed by another from the same hole? I prefer the dog to be ready for that second bolter while still watching the rabbit in the net. TC
  7. LMFAO. It honestly made me laugh out loud. or is it the whiskey? TC
  8. You will be surprised how long some seeds will last, beetroot seeds are viable for up to 5 years. The only seeds I buy new every year are parsnip and parsley if I am growing them that year. The rest I will sow till the packet is empty. This years leeks are from a packet I bought 3 years ago. Handy link: http://www.allotment-garden.org/seed-saving/seed-storage-life.php Edited to add: You can freeze Parsnip seeds to save for the next year. TC
  9. What type of pointer is the cross? Here is the thread about GWP x. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/334494-pointer-x-greyhounds/ TC
  10. I just read this, and am sitting here with tears in my eyes. I cannot even begin to contemplate what the poor man is thinking at this time. I hope he has good family and friends that can help and comfort him in his time of need. RIP little ones and mum. TC

    Selling ?

FFS if you are that worried about paying a fiver, sell on ebay and check out how much you are charged then. You pay a fiver for the year and can sell as much as you can with no FVFees, no listing fees and your fecking moaning? FFS grow up. TC
  12. I am borderline manic OCD about setting nets. They have to be set correctly. About six years ago I went ferreting on my own as I usually do, (even then I start arguing with myself). Dog marks a three hole warren, I place the nets and rabbit tumbles out of net.No worry says I to my self ,it does happen now and again even with the best set nets. Next warren the dog marks was a little larger around ten holes and as the dog was sticking to one place, I had a good idea that there was only one occupant at home and where it was in the warren, I netted up paying particular care after losing the last r
  13. Your beginning to get the hang of this photo shop. TC
  14. It is classed as a Gothic style folly, if that is true it did not have a purpose as such. There are follies all over the country where rich people would pick any excuse just to show off their wealth by building one. We have one near us its called Paxton's Folly built around the same time but ostensibly to commemorate Nelson. TC

  17. In the Himalayas there was a monastery of very well to do monks. These monks were extremely wealthy and they owed all their wealth to the yak's that they kept. The yak's fed them, clothed them, were used as beasts of burden, in fact the yak's produced everything they needed to accumulate their wealth. All they had to do was to throw the yak's hay every day. To access the monastery a steep treacherous path had to be negotiated. When travelling the path it was custom to tie a rope around the monks waist and around the yak it was a sort of insurance as the yak's were so sure footed on the pat
  18. The best twine you could use is Engel's best quality you can buy. http://www.engel-netze.de/smart5/eng/twines-and-ropes/314-spun-polyester-spun-pes-twine/index.htm. For a long net I would recommend this one. http://www.engel-netze.de/smart5/eng/twines-and-ropes/314-spun-polyester-spun-pes-twine/spun-polyester-twine-no-nm209-ne129-approx-08.htm TC

  21. Привет Ник , пожалуйста, извините автоматического перевода. Добро пожаловать в охотничий жизни, мы хотели бы услышать , как вы охотиться и фотографии были бы еще лучше. TC
  22. Far better than the horses arse last year. TC
  23. Cos I forgot, sow the seeds in a good quality compost. Viking was the choice back then, but Levingtons M3 or M4 is just as good. Don't use the budget composts from Aldi or Asda. Sow them in plug trays if you can get them, once they have thier first true leaf pot them on into 3inch pots and add about a quarter soil to compost to the compost mix (mole hill soil being about the best soil), and pack down pretty tight. This has the effect of getting the roots used to pushing through the soil which is harder than the compost so when planted out they get away quicker. TC
  24. I had better type this out, I was going to take a photo, but lets just say the notes are not in my BEST handwriting. Make the beds about 18" wide dig in plenty of well rotted manure (about a 3" layer) in the Autumn (now will not be too late). Then loosely cover the bed with black polythene, thats just to keep the weeds down and help the soil warm in the spring. I planted mine out on or after the 6th of May when all chance of a heavy frost has gone. About one week before planting out take off the black polythene and give it a dust of Seagold fine, (calcified seaweed) and Vitax Q4 4oz per s
