Or if you want a larger onion try these, Kelsae I grew them once with seeds from a showman it was his strain of kelsea that he had been developing for over 30 years. Just growing them on the plot they averaged 4lb and one made 6lb dressed. Lovely and mild eating onion but do not keep too long. If anyone wants them I came across my old growing notes the other week, on bed preparation for onions. TC

These are the best onions I have ever grown. They keep till the next may in onion sacks in a cool place. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=Rijnsburger+5+balstora+seeds&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=3&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50 TC

Interesting that you said that, I have been thinking along the same lines. To my mind the only thing the breed lacks is a little bit of speed, to that end I think maybe a reverse three-quarter bred dog would just have the edge on speed over a full bred dog, without loosing all the attributes that make the breed what it is. They are never going to win any races that for sure, but for a general mooching and lamp dog could be an asset? TC

The wife's friend took her little girl of 4 out to watch it, she had a present under her coat. All of a sudden she jumped forward and pretended she had caught the present. Her daughter was in raptures with it, bouncing up and down because her mother had caught a present off Santa. TC

Is that called "thinking inside the box?" TC

I heard this tune on the radio today, ohh it brought back some old memories of a Sunday evening in front of the telly. Having just got out of the bath and standing with a towel around you and pretending to shiver while standing in front of the open fire. If your old enough to remember you will know what I mean. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdwq53_march-little-suite-trevor-duncan_music TC

You lot are going to piss yourselves when I tell you what my first rabbiting dog was. The family boxer, cost 7/6 in Abergavenny market As a kid back in the 1960's the dog would go everywhere with me, when she was about 6 months old we were up the mountain looking for lapwing nests when she rose a fox and either it was old or just hurt but it could not run properly and she caught up with it and literately smashed it to pieces, I do not think there was a whole bone in it's body once she had finished with it. And we had a 10 bob note for the tail. So I started using her when squirreling and r

So it would be fair yto say you have never owned one. People do get in a pickle when they first start training them, for the simple reason they do not know how to train a HPR. I was the same I have been training dogs from an early age spaniels, lurchers, labs even had a terrier that would retrieve duck off water. At first I tried training it like any other gun dog and for the basics that was fine. It was when the hunting training started that the problems started. Most people who have never trained a HPR before are to be truthful obedience freaks they have to have a dog doing what they say

So very true, the english translation is not that accurate. They are not "only" pointers, here in Germany they are called "Deutsch Drahthaar" which is a description of their coat, and means german rough coat. And over here they are used and "advertised" as a versatile all purpose hunting dog. what are the best hunting lines in the uk at the moment because the show people like these as much as the hunter atb At the moment you have many dogs that are duel champions field trial and show bench. As yet the kennel club has not changed the standard of the breed from the working standard. Kim

I read an article once about the origin of the Drahthaar, the article stated that when they decided on a standard for the breed they decided that only liver and white and liver and tic was acceptable. Any black and white pups were PTS. However the jeagers working in the forestry in Munster asked if

One of my biggest regrets is that I did not find the GWP sooner, what an amazing breed they are. They do not suit everyone and the first one I had, if I had any hair left I would have lost it when training him. In reality it was him training me. I used him with the hawk, ferreting, pigeon shooting, duck flighting, walked up woodcock, long netting in the day where he would point rabbits in bushes then I would set nets where I thought the rabbits would bolt too, then tell him to flush, even picking up. The amount of different jobs they are able to do is phenomenal, but they not only do them, bu

Curiosity, How The Hell Did Moles Get There?
Tiercel replied to Tiercel's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
If they can travel overland then that would explain it. As I remember this road being built about 30 years ago. and even though it has islands now the footings go the complete width of the two roads. So for it to tunnel there it would have to tunnel up though the footings. is this possible for them? TC -
I enjoy reading this forum, I have no aspirations to become a pest controller, (personally I think you all need you heads read.) Joke ! I have had the same job for the last ten years and travelled the same route every week. Around about the same time every year molehills start appearing on the grass verges, although they do seem to be a bit earlier this year. But there is one part of a dual carriageway a grassed central island that has never had a mole hill on until last week, when I seen three on there. How the hell did that / those mole / that moles get there? To my mind there is onl

Just one word of advice, if you do have to break up a fight with a GWP and a terrier keep your legs out of the way. TC
