  1. Once it picks it's first there will be no looking back mate...
  2. At least it's seeing them though mate lol. I'm sure it will start to pick them up. Unless it's one of those dogs that just wants to chase and then pick them up. I had a lurcher like that in the early 90's she was 4 years old when she decided to take her first sqautter, before that she used to run down the beam to the squatter and almost nose the rabbity up to run before chasing and catching them. She did my head in, but i kept her anyway as she was a cracking bitch other than that. Once she started to take the squatters though she never looked back..
  3. I keep and run whippets on the lamp and the one i'm running at the moment is mustard on squatters, many don't even move a muscle. My method to get them taking squatters is this, when out lamping never slip the dog until your sure it's seen the rabbit in the beam. You have to remember the dogs much lower then you and it's alot harder for them to see the rabbit. To start getting the dog to see them walk up to the squatters until the dogs seen it then slip the dog. It will soon realise if you keep the lamp on that there is a rabbit in the beam and it will start to concentrate it's effort on
  4. Nice one, you can't beat Teal great to shoot and fantastic to eat. We had another go at the geese this morning, but due to bloody dog walkers coming onto the field we had to call it a day early just as the main skiens were flighting in. Still i managed 2 canada's with 2 shots, Ju got a canada and a pair of mallard and jason got 3 canada's and a mallard. We are going to leave them alone now and shoot our flight pond for the first time early next week if we get a bit of wind. We've got a few mallard and teal feeding so hopefully we'll get a bit of sport.. ALB Mally
  5. It will be a good craic anyway, it's forcast cloud and wind 15-25mph so should be a reasonable night all being well..
  6. Well the David and Goliath heat is to be run on saturday night up on some land LDR has sorted. lol I'll be running Vixen my 20" 30lb Whippet against Bruce (last years winner) he's 27" and weighs approx 70lbs!!!!. I don't hold much hope, but we'll give it our best shot. I certainly won't be doing a Mark brick and jacking half way round lol.
  7. There's an airrifle club at North anston mate. They have a wood all set up with knock down targets etc. If you go on airgunbbs forum i'm sure someone on there would beable to give you more details. You could also try and get someone to take you out shooting on there permission. Be careful though mate, don't be tempted to go out poaching as if you get caught you will be charged with armed trespass. If your convicted with that offence it will prevent you from holding a Firearms or shotgun certificate for a very long time. I'd try and find out more info on the air rifle club, you will
  8. Nice dogs mate, Nice to see shoots allowing lurchers in the beating line. Did your dogs get a run?
  9. You can have your own SGC at 15 but you need to be supervised at all times mate.
  10. I think the reason why your posts keep getting deleted is that you have not contributed to the site, i.e you joined in september and you've made just 3 posts mate. Obviously people do join this site just to peddle dogs, even though you didn't join for this reason it does look that way with the amount of posts you've made.
  11. I have an AEG it came with 3 batteries and it came with a lifetime guarantee even on the batteries. I've had a battery replaced under the lifetime warranty and all i had to pay was postage. You really do get what you pay for..
  12. Good for you mate well done.? Is it true you can shoot canada geese with an air rilfle.atb.Catcher I'm not sure mate, i certainly wouldn't shoot them with an air rifle. I have a bit more respect for my quarry for that. It's not very sporting shooting them on the ground or on the water. I prefer to shoot them flying with the 12 bore using the correct loads. These were all shot with heavy shot 32g 3's between 25-45yds
  13. Yes mate, i just remove the breasts and seal them in the frying pan then cook them in the oven. I then serve them with roast tatties and roast parsnips and carrots along with a bramble and port sauce.
  14. I always just brush off all the dirt and muck when it's dry and then treat with chelsea leather food. I use this as it's guaranteed not to rot the stitching of your boots unlike other treatments including dubbin. My current pair of Irish setter elk trackers are now in there 4th season and still going strong even though there worn everyday to walk the dogs, ferreting, lamping and beating/picking up on the shoot.
  15. I'm also offering a free mornings photoshoot including photo's to the winner...
  16. Cracking trophies mate, I'm a little concerned though mate as i think that jacket may be a little on the large size for my whippet lol
  17. Cracking looking setup that mate. I bet your mrs loves you for leaving all that mud and shite all over her floor lol.
  18. I have recently changed from a Nikon to a Canon and to be honest the Nikon produced better picture's colour wise, the Canon picture's seem to be wishy washy (technical term) and I have to use their digital photo professional program to put some life back in. I like the canon because it fires 5 frames per second and most of my picture's are taken just using the sports mode which means the camera decides the shutter and aperture setting (which is helpful when the light is constantly changing). The ferret was checking that tree for squirrels she is highly trained in aerial combat.................
  19. I've been watching a stubble field now for over a week, there have been between 400-600 greylag and canada's feeding on it. Now the problem was i've only got permission on fields 2 fields away, now depending on the wind i could get under them but i feel they would have been too high to shoot them so i never bothered. Anyway last night i stopped to talk to a mate i'd not seen for a while, we got talking and i mentioned the geese on the fields and he said he'd got permission to shoot on them and if i wanted to go we'd have a go in the morning. Arrangements we made and what a fantastic morni
  20. Here you are mate Click here to view her pedigree
  21. Mally that is a really nice dog mate, and by the looks of it its doing a fine job How old is it mate? ATB John She's 28 month old, I'm more than happy with her mate. I use her for ferreting, lamping and flushing the odd hare to the gun. She's running in the hunting life lamping competition next saturday. We are drawn against last years winner LDR and bruce so we are up against it!!!!. As long as she gives her all i'll be happy. atb Mally
  22. Really?? And what would you know? Are you a breeder of whipps then? I can assure you he is 100% purebred. Thankyou He may not be mate but i am, and i have serious doubts into the intregrity of the breeding of certain strains of KC registered whippets. NO pedigree whippet should be 23". Thats the reason why i no longer consider certain lines when picking a stud dog. Obviously i don't know the breeding of your dog as the information you have given into the dogs breeding is very vague. I like my whippets to be around the 20" mark and 30lb and most of all i like them to look like a whi
  23. Now i've seen the stud dog in the flesh at Mike's, he is a powerhouse of a dog i used him over my old bitch but unfortunately she didn't take. If your wanting a nice strong working whippet pup then you won't go far wrong with this litter...
  24. I've just got in from a nights lamping on local permission with a mate and the whippets, We were in some sheep paddocks and we witnessed 3 badgers having a go at a lame ewe. We kept the lamp on them so they would p*ss off and managed to get the ewe into an empty stable.. Doesn't look good though. I rang the farmer to tell him and he said he's lost 3 in a month from the same field!!!!!..... I've never heard of this happening before in our area. The farmer thought the others had been attacked by dogs, as there is a public footpath that goes straight across the field... Seen a few other od
