I think you both hit the nail on the head it depends on what type of dog you have but this article doese not mention any type just gundogs in general so if you are new to the gundog world you may take the statement that a gundogs main function is to retrieve as been a fact.I think that this article should have been writen for people who use their dogs mostly for picking up .Do you think trainers put a lot of energy into getting a dog to retreive with style because this is what potential buyers see the dog doing when they are in the shooting line or is this just me being nasty.

Stuck inside so had a read of a couple shoot mags in the gundog section of one mag a trainer has written that the dog finds and flushes game but it's primary function is to retrieve shot game and more importent to retrieve wounded game to be humanely dispatched.Now this trainer has probably forgoten more about gundogs than i will ever know but a disagrea with his statement and i am being honest when i say for me a gundog must first find then flush quarry within gunshot and this is its primary role.I don't know if the writer of the article has added the humanley dispatching bit to justify the

Pulled the plug on two walk and stand days this season high winds on one low cloud and mist on another.also pulled out half way through a day heavy snow ! NOW not sure about a walk-about day as the snow is deep and someone could trip up very easly accident waiting to happen .Lads say it's ok and its up to me but i know not everybody is happy about loosing days all the lads work so sats are the days we go out and now not many left in the season.Now i only run this shoot and part time keeper it to enable me to raise the rent money for the shooting rights so can't refund any money what would you

atb Hendo the pup looks good but if thats her kennel up on the hill you will have to get some wire mesh in between those pillers. .the timing will be spot on with training hope when april / may she could be on the bunny's then mebe shooting over her by autum as my pup is about the same age this is my hope for her .

don't leave it to chance put a dog box in the back even if you buy one it's cheaper than a vet's bill.. as for the gap i got some hinges and made a flap and fastend it to the tub floor the flap covers the gap and goes over onto the tailgate so when i shut the gate the flap moves on its hinges and closes with the gate.atb

four guns three dogs this type of hunting is the best for me ps all the rabbits were big heavy bucks polly retrieved five must try and get pics of her in action if i can remember the camera :icon_redface:atb

A few sats back we had low cloud and fog so we stopped the driven shoot not safe most of the lads went home but a few of us with dogs had a walk about a pal took this pic at the end of a hour long hunt we shot 13 rabbits so you can guess how many we flushed as the pic shows polly is hunched up trying to keep herself warm she had just retrieved a bunny that when shot had skidded along the frozen ground and fell into a burn .(I always forget my camera ).
