  4. On the land i hunt there is a very large number of rabbits but they don't all get myxsy at the same time mebe the distance between the rabbit sets helps or it could be that when we rough shoot the gullys between the sets we take out a lot of imature bucks who are sitting out of the sets waiting to get lucky with a doe or two this could stop some of the rabbits transfering the flees from one colony to another just a thought. To try and conrol the rabbits we ferret shoot and lamp them but it dos'nt seem to knock them back arround the place. The only time we realy noticed that we lowerd the number
  5. Trevor i think thats a daft idea but good luck in persuading the land owner. Vets arround here are giving pet bunnys jabs against mixy so i think tame bunnys can cantract it to !
  6. Get over to a scrapyard you want a wiper motor complete with mount plate and robber bushes(sorry can't remember what car the motor came from you'l just have to search ) and a couple of bonnet stays. Tools little MIG welder 8mm die nut hacksaw +3 penny washers and six 8 mm nuts.If this is the sort of diy rota you want i will try and get some pics up tommorow.atb.
  7. Anyone use water proof shooting gloves like sealskinz as my hands have had to much hammer rash from my work i am now feeling the cold more been looking at some gloves but as i hav'nt worn gloves to hunt with in the past i would like some advice .Mind you at the price of some of them i will have to get the wife to put a string on them and thread them through the sleeves of my coat just like she used to do with the kids
  8. A word to the wise if it's free from someone you don't know a penny to a pinch o sh*t its a dud or a a nutta or even badly handled you dont often get owt for nowt thats worth keeping.atb
  9. Don't know about decent but we do use a old honda (1989 model)with a diy rest made up from 20mm conduit and the supports cut from car bonnet stays out of a scrapyard with a couple of ramps we can stick the quad into the sankey trailer if we want to go up onto the moor .As the quads not road legal and we have to get to the moor by road atb.
  10. oh dear, sounds like you maxed it out! Well they are a lighter duty vehicle than a landy, so they should handle more weight. What you really need is a 40 or 70 series landcruiser, toughest vehicles ever to grace this earth. Just a pitty you can't get them here... Harry in the real world the landy is the vehicle i have now a wish list may be different helicopter perhaps
  11. WHEN I USED A HI LUX TO transport feed around the shoot it kept on snapping springs (not cheap to replace)i do addmit good on road but poor fuel consumption .The old landy with 15 bags corn in the back and 30 in the sanky trailer only gets stuck if iam daft enough to get it in the wrong place and even then all i do is uncouple the trailer and get the landy out first useing a couple of pieces of conveyer belt under the wheels then tow out the trailer with a rope.Towing off road in my experience speed dos'nt come into it.atb.PS i owned an old diahatsu F20 rag top many years ago now that was a li
  12. Used german parra boots army surplus £20 had them four years now still water tight and comfortable but use a lot of dubbin on them.
  13. Don't keep your hand up all of the time only use it to enforce the command when you have the dog staying put start throwing a dummy to your left or right side this should stimulate some interest and make him sit up if he breaks to go for the dummy as you have thrown it to your side you should be able to get to it before the dog does and then take him back to his seat and enforce the stay command with you hand rised and a growling voice.ps dont scruff him for staying put just to get a cocker to stay without belly crawling is good.
  14. probably in the new year will post on here atb
  15. nebby bu##er near Duns is it close to kettle shile? No a few miles out
  16. Had a hi- cap landy liked it got a 90 pick up now put some heavy duty springs on the rear to cope with a 3/4 ton sankey trailer loaded up with corn going over fell and moors to feed up hoppers.made a couple of rock sliders frome a bull bar of a transit.and as the 90 has'nt got the length to take a gun box i stuck one on top of the ivor richards canopy. Don't think a sun roof will be very practical as if in the middle of roof the gear levers will get in the way of you having a comfortable shooting position and even if you put a hatch in to one side it would have to be realy forward on the roof
  17. NO if the dog has any brains it will soon coton on to the fact that the lead is the only thing stopping it and the beating line ai'nt the place to train the dog if your dog sits and stays try finding someone who will let you take your dog into a hen run get between the dog and the hens have the dog staying and you walk about keep a weatherd eye on the dog and see how he reacts this may give you some indication as to how the dog will behave around pheasants having said that a steadying pen is still not the real thing when people dogs and game mix atb.
  18. Minimum training = 100% on the return command.MAX training as a gun dog .
