  1. if your basis for this topic is only from the shoot you are in and the lads that are agreaing with you are mostly from wales is this a trend in wales alone .yes the field trial judge is right a dog can be made up from working soft cover but he is only one judge and you must admit not all ftch dogs will get there by this route. So again you have at least a measure of the dog to some extent if it has a ped and again its down to buyer to get what he is looking for.NOW heres a thought why are english springers more populer than welsh springers?
  2. car battery and jump leads if it starts =battery try simple test take top off battery press starter button look at the cells any bubbling and gasing= cell shorting = battery
  3. if terrier/lurcher people are so good at breeding why are thier so many of these dogs up for sale? and i don't mean pups! just look on this site alone.
  4. ok used springers to beat and shoot over for more years than i care to remember but only in the northeast and scotland i hav'nt come accross many working dogs without papers and to be honest i can only bring a few sprockers to mind so when it comes to dogs with no paperwork is this a regional thing . It has been sugested that only dogs that work in wales are able to tackle heavy going etc etc this is rubbish ! as it has been said before FT and the KC aren't perfect but the ped is a good indiction of the type of dog you can expect is it not the case that a lot of good stud dogs are used with b
  5. Butter would'nt melt good luck
  6. STAXIGO thanks for the info herd the name from Tennent brownlee and Ron montgomery years ago when i bought an ess bich of Tennent I never got a chance to see any in action but by all accounts they where hard going and the stamp of a traditional spanial thanks all who have posted about this affix the name has stuck with me for years and this is the most info i have recieved about it Ta very much.
  7. anyone know any staxago dogs i think thats how its spelt mybe stacks of go ?
  8. ok youv' organised a walk about day shooting over the dogs got the lads together to get to know each other before the season kicks off plus it gives you an idea of how safe they are and how fit right half a day up on the moor very windy but dry and bright experienced men boots gaiters fleece or waistcoat small game bag box cartridges they know its not to wet under foot it will be warm going and you won't get to many shots at the grouse then the others who in our case have shot with us before but just dont learn to take advice they pull on a big coat over a fleece and probably a jumper then ou
  9. got some from local agricultural merchants
  10. to many young birds no meat on them we don't take any until mid oct atb.

  12. fed 55grn Vshok but sometimes have a problem with supply in my area.
  13. Well..this is an interesting comment...I suspect several will have a favourite, and probably different cartridge type. I rate the 5 for many uses...but I struggle to understand any circumstances where a 7.5 28 would be better that a 32, 5 on rabbits! muzzle flip?shooting over bunnys 32 gram mybe to heavy a load !?. I use 6@ 30 gr but if its a hard winter 5 @32gr because the bunnys fur can absorb more shock as its thicker for the cold weather. ATB.
  14. for safety jack it up and check for play if discs apply light pressure to brake pedal when slowing down if pedal moves up and down under your foot check out discs
  15. if you don't use a dog you will miss out.atb.
  16. to use a spanial to flush game and be steady so you can shoot the game and have the dog retrieve to hand is one discipline most dogs will mark rabbit sets but if by standing gaurd you expect the dog to pin down any netted bunny or to catch the bunny if it escapes then i think you will have your work cut out for you asking any dog to be steady one minute and then wanting it to run in the next . get two dogs atb.
  17. if you buy a pup because you like the ability of its parents but it does not have any papers then you don't know how the the parents where bred ! so do you propose to ignore the breading that has gone before and start up a list of only hard going dogs as you know a bitch can throw all kinds of pups can breeding alone produce hard goers or has training a hand in it .I think it could be a combination of both for instance you can put a pup of by hunting it in stinging nettles to soon but if that same pup has had experience flushing bunnys in softer cover then it will go straight into nettles for
  18. I had my first spaniel at 14 years old - I have had 4 altogether and the current one is the best- the dog of my lifetime certainly. All had ft lines but his is exceptional. My shooting involves wildfowling on the marsh, a pheasant syndicate and loads of rough shooting -pigeon woodcock rabbit. So does this mean you are not happy with any dog that gets its ft tickets in england /scotland but you are happy with a winner from wales what im saying is the gene pool aint that big so any winner you come accross will have a ftch in its ped from all over the country . and if you have a dog that doe
  19. welshboy do you work a spanial or are you reasurching the breed beforebuying.
  20. not a fan of field trials looked in on a few. But what i can tell you the ftch's that i have seen both in the gun line and the beating line are fearless in any cover and their is something about their drive that marks them out from others atb.
  21. At a spaniel trial, all dog's are expected to face any cover. Including bramble's and blackthron. Glad to hear that confirmation- its just that the description below does not say that.
