cheers langourroux i use a bipod off the bonnet of the motor but when standing i have to rest on a post or tree only have to do this when i use a moderator and most times i feel awkward doing this so sticks seem as if they could help .DIY SOUNDS GOOD TO ME in my opinion the sticks i have looked at don't offer value for money so if anybody has bought sticks and think they are a good buy lets know.

JUSTwondering if we all use the same whistle pitch on all breeds of gundogs the lads i know with spanials seem to favor 210 1/2 or 211 1/2 .i don't use a different one just for a stop whistle.some questions (1) do you think the dogs can tell who is blowing the whistle if they are all the same pitch (2) do some people use a different whistle to stop the dog .(3) how many sources of infection do you think your whistle comes in contact with (4) do you clean and sterilise yours(5) is the depth of the teeth marks in the whistle an indication of how good a trainer you are.(6) does anyone know where

treats a last resort you could be building problems for the future like spitting out a retrieve before delivering it to hand as the dog is expecting to eat a treat.plus the dog could become a bit of a potterer when hunting allways looking to you for a treat instead of nose down and hunting the theory is the retrieve after the find and flush is all the reward the dog wants.I am not saying treats don't have their uses but be carefull don't over do it. atb.

if you have a few dogs that stay close to you (yours or on loan from a friend ) take them all out with the cocker let them all off to run together but keep the other dogs close and make a fuss of them ignore the cocker call other dogs in but ignore the cocker when the coker is sniffing about and doing its own thing then call it in and if it comes make a big thing of it .if the dog wants some attention don,t give any ignore it turn away then call it to you as soon as it gives up trying to command the situation. hope this makes sense to you. I did this with a springer and it worked for me .but

I think it depends on the temprement of the breed of pup also i won't shoot over or near a pup until i have got it used to the sound of gunfire as i only have experience of ess so i normally start with a few shots during a hunting sesion when the pups approx 12 mths plus i read somwhere that the pups ears are not fully developed untill around about 1year old When birds were my only quarry then i shot over the dog on a full walk up day when they are about 16-18 months now on mostly bunny's it can take up to 24-30 mths before i am confedent to take a dog out on a full day and in the company

rough shoot walk around the boundry and land away from the woods The lads told no pheasants to be shot on the boundry and no poults in the bag as they were not ready yet glad to say that they took notice and did as asked. With nine guns and five hard working spanials the bag was 3(old pheasants) 2 hares and 20 rabbits.Pleased to say that we sore no poults away from our drives they seem to be sticking to the woods fingures crossed.

if such an event took place and assume all dogs are say spanials to show no favoritism then the judges should not know if a dog is kc reg or not and even better it would be very interesting if a trial was arranged and all the dogs where not kc reg and again the judges not told i think the result if any would be a true reflectoin of the dog and not any pre concieved idea as what the result should be.I think we all know it will never happen but you never know someone may see this and know a few judges even if they have retired from the scene or a couple who dont like the way trialing is going .

petrol tank corroded and leaking anybody breaking a bayou and got a tank pm me if you have.

mybe their is a case for trials conducted on the same lines as kc but the dog can be of any type without paperwork and still be awarded ftch status .Don't know if any of the kc judges would be willing it sure would put a spanner in the works .
-
mybe you should stick to labs as most spanials are high as a kite . can't win on here one says ftch in ped then not enough drive then your coments opposite true ive only had 6 springers and 4 cockers over the last 25 year so maybe i do know nowt i suppose all i was trying to say was that i think we hold too much in the pedigree system that is in place does a piece of paper really truly matter if the dogs doing what its meant to and doing it well I still think without any sort of selective breeding ie pedigree system then you would not have at least a basis with wich you would be able

ali don't get a dog if you just fancy one and can't decide on a breed all the advice is worth nowt unles you realy know the type of dog you want and what you want it for then be ready to put some work into training you only get out what you put in .As for child friendly etc its mostly down to how you nurture the pup.you can't buy a ready made pup that in a years time will work as a rough shooters dog and is a pet to the wife and kids etc .Don't meen to sound harsh but unless you realy gel with the pup and get your prioritys right and consentrate on gundog training (that is if its a trained g

had to look after two cockers last year as a pal was terminaly ill when he passed on i had the task of re -homing them i ended up taking them to a spanial rescue home so this may be a place to look.ps seen some good x terriers in the beating line.
-
as above and make as if you are running the other way as she collects the dummy.
-
i seen the vidio very good but what i cant under stand is why the dog is working cover with nothing in it i no its part of the training but i got 2 cockers and the 4 year old will go in and come out if there is nothing there if there is some thing he wil not come out till it does weatheres its a dead bird or alive. what im saying is she is telling the dog to work bushes when he and she no there is nothing in there I was a bit puzzled which is why I put it up. As I said my dog hunts/quarters well but tends to air scent for the game scent cone and then homes in- then barbed wire would not

Hily you are trying to be mischievious ! My experience is not based on just our shoot - I go beating in a few shoots and talking to other beaters it does seem to be an increasing trend that the kc reg papers are not valued as highly as you would think. For some reason people are voting on this issue by their actions ie relying more on their knowledge of the parents having seen them work. The first couple of posters agree so it is not an isolated matter limited to West Wales. I have not said that all Ftch get their status on soft ground but some do by their handlers choice(why ?) not because
