Slightly different for me hily, i'd say I was a dog with a gun rather than the other way round. Trying to find good rough shoots that suit the dogs (both in terms of the ground and the attitude of the other guns) is more important (& difficult) to me. Dogs at different stages of their life do different things for me but ideally they would be out on "walked-up / rough shots everyday if possible. I TRAVEL APPROX 120 MILES ROUND TRIP EVERY WEEK SO I CAN HUNT AND WORK THE DOG ON A GOOD ROUGH SHOOT AND YES THE ATTITUDE OF SOME GUNS aint right.Even the old girl in my kennel gets to plod a

Ah but if you only have your dog you can still work it and hunt game for the others and as a smug little do gooder you just might get a lend of someone elses gun for a time. my own answer is that i get a lot of fun out working the dog anyway so it would not bother me if i forgot the gun .atb.

A little whine. How is it that there are lots of folk training gun dogs but its difficult to find a gun with a dog :search: to join a rough shoot we can get any amount of folks with guns but not with dogs.So you have spent lots of time and money training you dog and now its ready for the field how do you get your dog experience and what do you train you dog to do is it for trialing beating picking up hunting or the lot. Whine over should have gon into the gundog section don't know how to move it sorry.

Ok you have a rough shoot day hunting over working dogs you get to the shoot and you find you have forgotten something :oops: A YOUR GUN OR B YOUR DOG WHICH WOULD P**S YOU OFF THE MOST. AND WHY???

cheers ricky but its flustrating when you know the time is right for your pup to be given some experience on the real thing well as you say try and keep her on her toes with basics .looks like early morning or late evening hunts in the summer months to aviod the hot summer days to come :11: B)and yes she has got a nice style about her.

Got my eleven month old springer onto flushing bunnnys up at the shoot now a few weeks ago i started to shoot over her up till now she has had five bunnys shot over her and allowd to retrieve three my problem is due to the hard weather we don't have the number of rabbits about we normaly have so i think it's going to take a few months for the rabbit numbers to get back to where i can give the young dog multiple flushes and retrieves and bring her on ready for next season of rough shooting.On the shoot i know the areas where the ground nesting birds are so i don't hunt the pup around there ba

This is not just my opinion but a spaniel is an optomistic hunting dog and wants to be on the go hunting at all times springers are hyper cockers a worse get a book or two about gundog training from the libery and the authors who are mostly very experienced dog people will say the same if you want a life of hell then try and get a cocker to sit all day in a hide (its hard enough trying to stop them from belly crawling from a sitting position.!) A retriever type might suit your needs as a lab can settle easyer in a hide and of course they love to retreive and most dogs will except ferrets if

sorry to have to tell you this but spanials are bred to hunt not to be peg dogs anyway go back to basics try to get some patients into the dog before you give a command count up to say 100 in your head before asking the dog to retrieve or return from stay position and then as you go on make the number more so you are waiting longer and longer before you get the dog to do anything.plus you can get the dog to sit before you feed it and after you put its food down to it make it wait until you tell it to eat .don't have a set routine for training mix it up so the dog does'nt know what you are go

i don't know enough about x breeding but i do think some thought should go into it.. But is there a market for this type of x is'nt one of them.

Adam for that number of poults it might pay you to get in touch with a gammie at a local shoot he might have partridge in his laying field and you may get a deal of him or even get some eggs .atb

Now then i think you are a man who loves his sport of working dogs but has a bee in his bonnet about shooters. please don't lump all shooters as stupid as there are stupid people in all things as a shooter most stick to the rules of game seasons dont pull the trigger on quarry that have a hardship ban inforce on them try not to kill hen birds on a cock only day etc we make a choice to pull the trigger or not. some dog people don't or cant train there dogs so when they slip them they have little control over what they chase and kill but these people are only a handfull and dos'nt meen all dog p

are you useing a 12 bore in a wood over a 6 mth old dog be carefull you don't make the pup nervouse of the gun.make haste slowly. atb.

PLEASE remember that this is a biulding site so health and safety rules apply hard hat and high vis vest oh if on your walk you come accross any brickeys tell them to get a move on and finish the wall as the scotts are still getting in and trashing the area . ps very stunning views in this area even though lots of walkers about you still get a buzz from the how remote it feels.

The cheek of some folk!!!!!!! Why dont you put your hand in your pocket and pay to join the syndicate? You work on the farm so you are not doing the syndicate any favours by putting game crops in.......thats your f***ing job!!! Last thing too...the farmer is being a bit of a twat saying that you can shoot whatever you like when he is already getting paid by a syndicate.
