  1. Used these a lot OFF ROAD ONLY www.oro2u.com
  2. Well just to rough shoot and for him to retrieve. That would be ideal, I have been reading a good book by James Douglas which gives lots of good pointers. thanks for the replies guys MOST BOOKS WILL GIVE GENERAL HINTS AND TIPS BUT JAMES DOUGLAS AS FAR AS I KNOW WAS'NT A SPANIEL MAN BETTER TO GET A BOOK WRITEN BY A GUY WHO WORKS WITH SPANIELS.Rough shooting is great when you have a good working spaniel with you to rough shoot is to hunt your quary the best way there is a.t.b THATS a nice little dog you have.
  3. Training books lot about if you are new to spaniels to many things to advise on over the forum book like gundogs and the learning chain by Joe Irvine. good luck
  4. right hand down to tighten should'nt be as tight as that do'nt use heat last resort split the nut with good cold chisel split it at the castleastion.make sure you can get a new nut before you split the old one first.
  5. if you hav'nt got a lot of time to bring it on then do'nt get it or you will end up with two dogs you ar'nt to happy with and you have them for 15 years .you got to be fair to the pup. to get it for working in cover YES As a companion no You fanciad one no you realy want a springer yes. this is only my take on things but you did aske for opinions atb.
  6. SCOTTISH borders have been hit hard by the weather and just as some youngins apeared we had more snow at easter the hares have been realy knocked back we have come accross dozens of bodys just tucked in the grasses. We did'nt have much work for the ferrets and as finding flushes for the young dogs we would normaly be out 40 mins and get plenty of finds last week it took twice as long for half as many finds. The farmer is a happy sole as he is sowing his barley crop now and he aint worried about the fact he is'nt seeing many bunnys about but on the bright side we have had more time to deal wit
  7. She's a working dog so i don't use a collar took this one of her with an o-tom tick hook but i normaly use front line pippets from about end of may.atb.
  8. look out just removed my first tick of the year from the top of my spaniels head.
  9. Might sound daft but does she know what a bunny is. Try to find a few out in an open wood and let her chase them give her a taste of a bunny bolting down into cover or if you know someone with ferrets aske if they will bolt a few rabbits in front of the lab she is still young enough to get wound up and give chase and when hot on a bunnys scutt a dog don't seem to mind any cover.Mind you only do this if you know you will be able to train her to be steady on a flush later on .atb.
  10. AYE YOUR NOT FAR WRONG THERE She's doing well Dave up to now that is
  11. THANKS LADS it must be genuine i used to be paranoid but i still think their out to get me.

  15. POULTS £3.00--£3.95 GROWERS PELLETS 1 BAG PER 10 POULTS @£6.50 A BAG WHEAT 1 TON PER HUNDRED FROM £75 to £120 per ton PERSCRIPTION FOR MEDICATED FEED ask a vet AS WITH ALL GOODS THE COST CAN GO UP OR DOWN BUT THE PRICES SHOWN ARE APPROX WHAT WE HAVE PAID IN THE PAST We found that wheat prices are not known untill the harvest so if you don't have a small stock in store frome last year you have to pay the gowing rate so my advice is don't buy more birds than you can feed.good luck with the shoot.
  16. Thats a black springer It's good to have a dog that works with you atb dave

  18. We have a walk and stand driven shoot last season we incubated extra pheasants(to top up the bought in poults and the wild bird population). and added some partridge to the drives we also brought these on from eggs.So for next season we are having a go at early incubation of a small stock of pheasants to put onto the rough shoot area of our permission we also intend to place a couple of pens in these areas and stock them with any partridges we can raise over the amount we already place in the drives. In addition to these we are going to buy in some day old duckling and make use of an old holdi

  23. I TAKE ON BOARD WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT NEW GUNS BUT TAKE A STRAW POLE ON THIS SITE AND YOU WILL FIND THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF NEW GUNDOG HANDELERS.Don't know about the newbreed of dog people but for me to go shooting, a dog and a gun are a must. And for me working the dog well is important for the day find flush shoot retrieve a man with only a gun can only do one of these acts well the others the dog does well.atb
  24. Slightly different for me hily, i'd say I was a dog with a gun rather than the other way round. Trying to find good rough shoots that suit the dogs (both in terms of the ground and the attitude of the other guns) is more important (& difficult) to me. Dogs at different stages of their life do different things for me but ideally they would be out on "walked-up / rough shots everyday if possible. I TRAVEL APPROX 120 MILES ROUND TRIP EVERY WEEK SO I CAN HUNT AND WORK THE DOG ON A GOOD ROUGH SHOOT AND YES THE ATTITUDE OF SOME GUNS aint right.Even the old girl in my kennel gets to plod a
