  1. We had one a coule of days ago. My dog kept chasing it away making me think he had a bolter.
  2. Hi Lawrence, I haven't looked inside mine. But looking at your pics, you wouldn't be too far off the mark if when you glued it you made sure the little tag on the left hand section contacts with the metal of the broken off section when its screwed shut. I hope that makes as much sense to you as it does to me in my mixed up head. Dave
  3. The scent lays longer and is more acute in the snow with no background scent to mask it. Mine are quite the opposite and mark like crazy. They have recently found sets I have never even noticed before.
  4. I run my dogs regularly on golf courses. They regularly catch and it gives me a real thrill when the chase comes down to guile and fitness. It's not all about speed and a good dog that gets a turn out of a rabbit can keep it from escaping.
  5. Tdavepat has an example of a dog, that if any other person had it, it would most likely have been sold 15 times by now...The Black Pocket Rocket! It is nothing other than time, patience skill and a complete refusal to give up on him, that the dog has turned as he has...And from what I have seen, It is only in the past few months this has happened, a few months that wouldnt have came for anyone else as the dog would have been sold on. But Dave stuck with him and it has paid off ten fold. From a head strong, "Do as I please" to a thoroughly obedient, patient and clever rabbiting dog, I
  6. I remebered this thread when I saw something very similar this morning. However the lines I spotted are behind the paw prints and in direction of travel. It was like the rabbit had been skiping through the deep snow and had possibly dragged a back foot everytime. Might be how they naturally move. Dave
  7. There are some owners who will never make a good dog. Those are the ones who are serial dog peddlars. They will keep getting shot because their dog can never measure up to their mates' dogs or to the dog stories on here. They could have potentially the best dog in the country in their hands, but because of their inadequacy as trainers, the dog is ruined and passed on. The next dog steps up to the mark and the same fate awaits it. The ones frequently with dogs for sale or swap on here are those sh1t dog handlers that I am alluding to. Dave
  8. Since I installed mine 2 years ago, we don't need the central heating on. It heats the whole house and we leave all the internal doors open to reap the full benefit. I have never mastered a night slow burn either, but it's so easy to clean and relight that it doesn't bother me. I stock it last thing and my 4 dogs curl up in front of it until morning.
  9. I don't post my jaunts too often but I thought these pics were OK. I took one of my whippets and popped a collared ferret into my pocket. Nothing bolted but we had a great couple of hours down by the estuary sand dunes. Merlin loves the one to ones and he is really responsive when its just the two of us. The bloody ferret wanted to keep making a new home in the empty sets and I ended up doing a Bruce Grobbelar type dive to stop her bolting back down. She wasn't very happy at that and made a real fuss!! Merlin chased a few and came close, but the brambles and dying cover were
  10. DUCT TAPE. OK? NOT DUCK, DUCT. ME? PEDANTIC? RIC I thought Duct. Duck v's Duct
  11. Great post mate. Enough there to bring a tear to my eye. Is there someone smoking in here? Why can't people find things as they found them. Lazy inconsiderate twats! Dave
  12. Christmas Songs: Health & Safety and Equality Considerations for those living in the UK (not applicable for most other, less cosseted, countries) The Rocking Song Little Jesus, sweetly sleep, do not stir; We will lend a coat of fur, We will rock you, rock you, rock you, We will rock you, rock you, rock you: Note: Fur is no longer appropriate wear for small infants, both due to risk of allergy to animal fur, and for ethical reasons. Therefore faux fur, a nice cellular blanket or perhaps micro-fleece material should be considered a suitable alternative. Please also note
  13. Enjoyed that. Good write up and great set of pics to match. Dave
  14. There are a few here. Permission Letters
  15. I watched it too. River Cottage. Looked like a load of messy fuss to me. I can imagine my wifes face as I stretched an eggy pelt over the arm of her sofa to work it.
  16. I was speaking to a guy in derry today. He stuck £5 on Robbie Keane to score first at 60-1. It sort of softened the blow for him.
  17. I was done recently out of 75 quid by some d'head on here who took the money and ran. He even had the neck to ask me for the rest of the down payment. I believe the forum to be rife with such people and unfortunatly I have lost trust. They just log on as another user with a rotating IP so they are not traceable. I even since had a go at a member I bought something off for holding back on me. It turns out he was above board and totally trustworthy, and he was rightly a bit pissed at me for doubting his integrity. Paypal do not protect against such ripoffs as a lot of people believe
  18. I think you could if you worked at the dog from an early age and knew what you were doing. I have sent one of mine to find and retrieve dead rabbits, but thats about the limit of my expertise. Someone who has trained gundogs and who has a stack of patience could take it much further. Dave
  19. Good for you CP. Just goes to show how important it is to check the dog over immediately after every outing. Far to many people stick it back in the kennel without even a second glance. I hope she makes a great recovery, and that's nice neat job on the repair. dave
  20. I'm really looking forward to reading about the outcome of this one. My heart lies with the whippet and I hope she'll give a great account of herself. I know she will. I hope both dogs come through injury free and a great night is had by all, apart from the rabbits of course. This is a good opportunity to publicly acclaim the whippet, whether she wins or not. Good luck to both of you and may the best whippet win Dave

    Boots

Cheap wellies for me. Put a decent insole in them and when the sole is punctured on barbed wire for about the third time during a season, throw them away and get another pair. I tried all the expensive ones and was thoroughly pissed off when I felt my feet getting wet after a couple of weeks. They are too soft and are mainly for walking and not climbing over barbed wire. I would dearly love to find a pair of strong comfortable boots that would keep my feet dry whenever I was wading through 6 inch deep mud or fields chewed up by cattle hooves or tractors. Dave
  22. Sound like a good idea Have you had any problems with the ferret snagging up? None yet, it fits pretty close to the body. The transmitter is the biggest thing that sticks out anyway, so if it goes through, then the harness can too. Dave.
  23. I take the collars off and mount them on a harness. Easy and quick to put on and the ferrets eyes don't have to be bulging for it to be secure. Good luck with finding it mate, but I think you're time would be better spent giving it up. Dave
  24. Sorry sounder, I should have said that I am in the north. Dave
