  1. My understanding: The bill banning the hunting of the indiginous Irish Hare was brought in by The Environment Minister last year or the year before. This was due to the result of a survey stating that the native species was in danger of a collapse in numbers. The ban did not cover the brown hare as only the native Irish hare was mentioned. I think this was an unintentional ommision in the bill. I don't believe anyone, as yet, has been charged with hunting hares here. The law is so vague and scratchy that I don't believe the authorities even know what it means. I can't tell th
  2. I'll probably speak out of turn here, but unless their retrieval is 100% and unless you can guarantee that jealousy will not ruin one or both of their retrieval, then I would continue to work them lone. What advantage does it give you by working two small dogs at the same rabbit? None I would say. I have learned that even having another dog in the vicinity can ruin a young dog's retrieval. Let them learn their trade separately and don't rush into letting them run the same rabbit. All that will happen is that one will take off after the other, whether the first is on a rabbit or n
  3. net now sold cheers dave hope you can fill it LOL, Jarvie as long as it's not just being filled by my stupid mutts. Dave
  4. Never too old and never too young. 7 months is no age anyway. Stock breaking isn't a one off event where you train your dog and that's it for the rest of its life. Constant exposure throughout its life and frequent refresher training walks through livestock on a long leash should keep reminding it of what is expected. I use a long leash as it gives a good indication of how the dog will react when given its off lead 'independance'. I had a dog off sick for six months and when he came back into the field, I hadn't refreshed him. When we rounded a hedgerow and saw a field of shee
  5. I thought I would post this, even though I might prove wrong in my method of thinking. I had a call from a farmer via somebody I already work for. He has asked me to ferret a single narrow field, about 400 yards long and 100 yards wide, which has a busy single carraigeway road running down on side. Unfortunately it's this side that has all the burrowing, a hive of activity along the full length. The narrow ends of the field have a house boundary at one end and a hedgerow and field gate at the other end. Along the opposite side to the road runs a ditch full of water and beyond that dit
  6. Thanks everyone for the replies, especially stevieman I live in N.Ireland so the chances of me taking you up are pretty slim I don't think he's a thief, but I think he's a tosser and a messer. He is so f'd up with himself, he can't get his act together. He wants to do the right thing but with his head so far up his own arse, he has too many things to do in his life before he sorts me out. I'm sure if he was less stressed with life he would find it easier not to take peoples money and try and forget that he did it. I'm sure he would be a decent sort. Instead he has decided the e
  7. The CHIPPIPARAI are and interesting breed. They are raised mainly by tribesmen. The elder picks the parents and only the one best one from the litter is kept, the rest are culled. The breed has allegedly thousands of years breeding in it, which I would imagine is a slight exaggeration, but they keep pedigree records and new owners are few and far between.
  8. He gave me his name and his address, which makes me think he started out with good intentions. I still think he would be an OK sort. But, sadly, he is definately a messer in every sense of the word. Someone who promises and assures time and time again and who actually believes everything they say, but never has the courage or conviction to say no. A Walter Mitty.
  9. Cheers all. I didn't want to name and shame him just yet, but I've had my fill of unorganised messers as well as rip off merchants. If he is to offer a service then he should be above board from the start. This was to be his business, all he had to do was leave a phone number or a message saying he was off for a while. He knew I had kits waiting to be housed and he still couldn't meet a generous deadline and couldn't be bothered telling me he couldn't. Its people like him who ruin people's trust in all the rest of the decent souls on here, who are honest and trustworthy. I hope
  10. I read a post on here about a guy down on his luck and who had been made redundant from working as a joiner. He was proposing to make animal housing to earn a living and included pics of his handywork. It all looked above board and his work looked good in the pics. I PM'd him, gave him the dimensions for a ferret hutch and he gave me a fair price. I sent him £75 quid to pay for his materials. He didn't ask for it, I just thought as he was out of work, it would be fair to help him get started. He then disappeared for a couple of weeks and when he came back he PM'd me to say he w
  11. My non ped whippet. He has about 1/8 grey. Stands about 22" and is accurate and quick on lamp. This looks bad but its how they play. He doesn't mind the water Opps Loves racing on the sand Dave
  12. The decent soul has just PM'd me to say its OK he was just off for a while. I didn't doubt his integrity, but was feeling a bit anxious for my homeless ferrets. Dave
  13. I do hope so. I could have (should have) built them myself, and now I'm a bit pissed off. I hope he comes up trumps as he seemed decent enough to make me want to give him an order. It's looking ominous for me though. Dave
  14. Has anyone been in touch with this guy, ferret_man_09. he hasn't been on the forum for over a week now. I have paid him half for a hutch against my better judgement, but as he said he was unemployed, I wanted to help him pay for the materials. He asked me to pay the remainder and he would have it to me by yesterday, but he seems to have disappeared over a week ago. I'm feeling a bit foolish now. Now I don't want to accuse him of anything, but did anyone else order anything off him and did they receive it? Dave
  15. So at the very least, including me, it is 7 strong.
  16. Laughed my socks off at this. Brilliant lads, well done. Each and everyone deserves credit. Dave
  17. Good answer John. They are a bit steep in price for me. But then again, when my sh!t spade isn't up to the job, I'll wish too late that I had spent the money.
  18. LOL, another hilarious, hideous tatt, another great thread. I think we should have 'who has the most sh1t tattoo competition' I know two already to kick it off.
  19. I'm out Dave. Not expecting much though as I've got to pick my son up from a nightclub at 1 am. Wind was stiff here earlier but it has dropped now too. Good luck Dave hows your lads head this morning mate.beter if he went for a shine with you Hi dave, I had a nightmare with my black whippet, headstrong little sh1t. He ruined what should have been a really good night, by hunting up, killing his rabbits about 5 times over and not retrieving. Took no interest in a fox from 30 yards and thats a first for him. Something must be up with him at minute so I'll watch him clos
  20. Yes mate, togg up and go out with the dogs. They don't give a toss if you are working or not. They don't care if you live in a mansion or a cardboard box. They'll love you for who you are and you'll feel better about yourself. I was out in the driving rain last night. It got so bad at one stage I might have well been lamping for haddock, but the dogs had a whale of a time and nabbed 2. Good luck, dave
