    longnets

I wouldn't dream of even thinking that, never mind posting that about him. He has always been a perfect gentleman to me and his gear has always been first class, so much so that he is the only trader I frequently deal with. It's just a personal question as I am no longer a young buck who can throw any number of nets into a bag and lug them through ditches and over fences. If it gets heavy when saturated then I'll quite happily keep it short and use it as a stop net, sticking with my two 4z'rs for any night work.

The very stuff LN. It is much lighter and easier worked than the purse net spun poly, but I don't know how heavy it'll be when saturated.

    longnets

Never having owned a hand made long net, I am reading this with interest. I am currently knitting 100 yards of net which I'd planned to string onto 50 yard ruuning lines. I'm knitting it from 'long net twine', which I presume to be some sort of poly twine. It isn't as heavy, nor thick as the twine used to knit spun poly purse nets (once again I'd presume to be in the region of 10z twine). If I thought it was going to be very heavy when wet I would stop now at 51 yards and have another 25 yard stop net. That's no big loss as I'll always find a use for it, and be just as happy to ma
  4. If it weren't for me you'd be up shit creek without a bog roll.

  5. Complete shite written by someone who hasn't a clue. Don't do this, the pup is too young both physically and mentally. I'd wait until at least 10 months, but even more if it is slow to mature. Keep up the basic training meantime, it will pay you back massively in the long run. No harm taking the pup along to watch once or twice (but I have never done that either), however, don't let it mouth the live rabbit and don't let it chase.

    Joke

An elderly spinster who was a dog lover agreed to look after and house her neighbours dog whilst the neighbours went on their holidays. The only problem was that the spinsters own dog was a bitch that was in season and the neighbour's dog was a male. Nevertheless, she had a large house so she was able to keep the two dogs apart. As she lay in her bed drifting off to sleep, the spinster was suddenly awakened by awful howling and moaning sounds from downstairs. She rushed downstairs to find the dogs locked together, howling in obvious pain and unable to disengage. Try as she might she could
  7. I agree. I hate cats with a passion, but I'd never be as cruel or heartless to do something like that to any animal.
  8. Both my whippets and both dobes will graze on berries, but they will rarely eat them when they are offered from the fridge.
  9. TBH I can't see anyone beating the price that Fat-Ferret paid for what he says is quality material. I paid a lot more this year from a well known supplier and it was sub standard material and sub standard craftsmanship. I haven't ordered net from Advanced Netting as yet, but I trust Fat-Ferret's judgement enough to know that I will be ordering from them.
  10. I have read very good reports about them, but their prices make them even more attractive.

    Rossi?

I have to agree with the above, but then i would be biased. Did anyone watch the live streaming of the Ulster GP at the weekend past. To see 10 superbikes slip streaming at 190-205 mph and trying to be the last on the brakes is heart stopping stuff. As far as road v circuit, there cannot be a comparison. A lot of the current crop of top short cicuit stars cannot legally ride a bike on the roads because they have never done so. Like wise the road racers have not really learned how to race tactically in the same way.
  12. I do work for a pig slaughter and process plant now and again. I had read how intelligent they are and to see them being herded to their death by their thousands is quite disturbing. They know as soon as they enter the concrete runs what awaits them and as the front ones are being slaughtered, the ones behind start to panic. The panic spreads and the back rows try to get back onto the trucks. I'm not a veggie and I'm partial to a bacon buttie, but what gets me is why so many. To see that many go through the mill in that fashion and see bacon and ham going past its sell by date in shops
  13. Why? Do you puposely piss into the wind just to declare that you're wet and stink?
  14. GTE I also agree with your sentiments, but again it comes down to practicalities. ie Money vs Resources. BDH, like most other charitable organisations, are a business. They employ and provide a career structure for ambitious career minded individuals. They will employ business trained managers and bean counters who will balance the books or they will go under. However, I am a socialist at heart and do like to see any corporation getting cained so i also have to agree with you on the uniformed egotists.
  15. Stewie, I agree with you and I made that distinction. A good breeder does not really need to advertise as his/her work does that for them. They usually have a waiting list and they vet their potential customers. BDS and other dog homes are buckling under the strain. I agree with them needing to PTS, but I also agree with you that that dog Brandy was not handled properly. Most dogs will strain at the lead when meeting others on a lead. The lead is restrictive and the dog feels at a disadvantage, hence the urge for self preservation. What should have been done is see if the dog was
  16. FTB said what I would have said. The few times I post on here, I always make a point of having a dig at the clueless and irresponsible breeders who think they know it all and who are actually to blame for all the dogs I visit in the pounds prior to them being PTS. I cry a lot for the poor souless and downbeaten animals, most of who have done no wrong but fall into the hands of a useless prick who shouldn't be allowed to keep a plant never mind a living animal. I read the adverts on here and I silently scream at the irresponsibilty and hand wringing. I might estimate that the good majori
  17. It's what I have been taught and what I do every time, perhaps not as far as 45 degrees but still enough to provide a decent 'floor' of net prior to the rabbits hitting the bagging. I taught you so well young dave... You did Massa

  19. Met him in a pub about 5 years ago in Belfast. I was with my youngster, aged 10 at the time and we were going to the Irish Cup Final. I stopped off for a couple of pints on the way and there was a pool competition going on in the bar. My young boy wanted to play and as he was quite decent I allowed him. He actually won and the guys were so impressed they asked Alex in to watch. He was sitting quietly in a corner reading The Racing Post and refused, saying he wasn't interested in playing pool that day. I brought my boy through to the bar to meet him anyway. Alex was taken aback, say
  20. Nice 1, ye, i have heard of them, are they common? LOL I haven't a clue, I've seen them but didn't give it much thought until you asked. So I googled the answer. A few links gave the reasons that mushrooms grew there.
  21. 'Fairy Ring' Fairy Rings Circular or semi-circular green bands of grass in a lawn may be caused by fairy ring fungi. Rings may be from 1 to 12 or more feet in diameter and mushrooms may or may not be present. Fairy rings get their name from the ancient belief that mushrooms grew in circles where fairies danced. All grasses are susceptible to fairy rings and several species of mushroom-producing fungi may be involved.
  22. Im not taking the piss or slaging you but your getting rid of one dog to get another ?????? So why not put some more work in to the one that yaps ? instead of passing it on for somut new What I thought. What will happen if the new one doesn't live up to your very high standards?
