  1. So what exactly do you want?? kennel blindness, don't think your optition will know of the condition but that's what your suffering from.. To say you wouldn't use a different type over a black of yours even if it was superior at its job is madness plain and simple. I'm also sad to say that a top class Russell lakey or what ever is just as good as a top class fell. I'm sure you will disagree but what in your opinion can a top class black do that let's say a top class Russell can't? I said i hadnt seen one that could better a top class black dog,I didnt say there wernt any as good and that
  2. Over the years ive chosen to keep dogs going back to Gould and Old Nuttal blood as in my opinion they are the best dogs for what i want with the exception of some of the Stevens type stuff that ive seen in the last few years but from what i can work out and what ive been told right or wrong they go back to old Gould stuff anyway. If i saw a black dog from a different line that was far superior to anything i knew of from them lines that was a proven producer even when outcrossed i would consider using it but as for a different breed no way.In just over 20 years of keeping working terriers ive y
  3. If i had a bitch that a bitch that i considered worthy of produceing a litter i would have done my homework and found a suitable dog of suitable breeding long before the bitch came in season so i wouldnt have to wait for the right dog to come along.Crossbreeding just because there was nothing else about or nothing closer would just be lazy.
  4. Alan was out of to his Billy to his neice and the mother to your pup as out of Billy to his own daughter so its a lot tighter than half brother sister. The line the dogs are from has produced a decent percentage of very good workers but is not ithout its faults which tend to show up more frequently when bred tight so an outcrosswill probably be the way to go if she makes the grade.I would be tempted to look for a half brother to Billy rather thn a completely unrelated dog.
  5. I would say the young chocolate bitch is inbred rather than linebred.
  6. In the right hands they can be trained to do pretty much anything any other cross can do .The problem is that 75% of bull crosses have probably got more brains and sense than their owners so dont get the oppertunity to show what they are capable of.
  7. Dont think it does them any good at all mate, especially encouraging young dogs into empty earths,I think all it does is encourage dogs to waste time f**king about in every earth you come to which can cause an empty earth to not hold for even longer,Ialso believe it can also lead to false marking.Any dogs that ive had over the years that have been any good have normally marked earths a good while before ive actually been happy to let them enter.
  8. Because a fool and his money is easy parted!! He mass produced pups as did ken gould, anyone could have done what they did at that time, however ken goulds dogs have left a legacy behind them, smithy and simon can still be traced back in most consistant working lines today.......but brian nuttall has no basis or foundation in his dogs to claim the same. I've met both of these men and been their yards numerous times over the years and seen umteen dogs direct of each men, nuttall terriers have NOTHING to offer serious dog men. Dillydog I'm sure ive heard most of the obscene things done over the year
  9. Thats exactly what i was saying. They were game enough for takeing foxes which was just as well as they took a lot of stick doing it.They were ideal for the job that i bred a litter for which was catching the odd bolted fox or quick catches around cover but as out and out fox dogs they just wernt built for the job and the were bred from a 23in 44lb Mike Brown whippet to a 19 1/2 in 42lb bull bitch. For the lads that have seen or owned these fox killing Bull/Whippets what sort of numbers and with what regularity are we talking.
  10. right mate if you had to help it out it was not a fox dog so should have not been run at them and a good whippet bull will sort a red un out in good time .atb Ive seen a few in action and even bred a litter of genuine 1st crosses myself and have never seen one that could kill foxes cleanly (regularly)
  11. If your pups sire is a first cross it would mean he is out of two purebred parents,So how can he be out of pye lines as pye was a lurcher?
  12. ment 2 be a cousin 2 american bulldog ,i know a lad who owns him a has other ones aswell They are called alapahas and they are mungrels that come with bulls**t stories same as the American Bulldogs. The merle colouration comes from the Catahula Hound in their makeup.
  13. Your absolutely spot on mate,Ive been about a bit over the years and met quite a few of the big famous names and to be honest more often than not i came home disapointed with what i had seen,Even when i was still a youngish lad with only a few years experiece in the game. What i would say to anyone who is going to meet a big name in the game is go with a completely nuetral mind and let them prove to you that they deserve your respect.
  14. SHH you mentioned Joe the other day,He went back to Eli.
  15. All i know is when i kept lurchers and i only had 1 good fox bitch and 1 very promising youngster out of her which had a few under her belt when she went to a good mate of mine and went on to make a very good bitch i would have rather missed a fox than slip another dog in.I would have rather had 2 singlehanded than 10 doubled up.Same with the terriers i would have sooner failed than drop 2 dogs in.
  16. Pre ban a coursing dog was gauged on its ability to kill hares single handedly if it was a 3/3 dog or a 5/5 dog it meant it would kill tat noumber on its own.Same as if a terrierman said he owned a 100% fox dog it generally meant the dog went to ground and stayed there untill the job was done ON ITS OWN.And any terrierman putting more than one dog to ground would be frowned upon by proper terriermen and rightly so.But when it comes to catching foxes with dogs 3 or 4 times the size of a fox it seems to be acceptable to a lot of lads even the norm.I think that to many lads are only kidding thems
  17. If you are using a bell on the leg you should try using a leather bewit to mount it above the anklet this way there is less chance of the bell rubbing the birds foot.
  18. Macky what would you ave said was a harder test pre ban 2 dogs doubled up killing 6-8 foxes in a night or 1 dog single handed killing 3-4 foxes
  19. Or maybe they just wernt that good in the first place thats why they were constantly doubled up. Not from what i heard, but i have only seen them on dvd and talked to lads that knew of them and the dogs, so who knows. All i do know is, it takes a very good dog, to take them on a regular basis, not just now and then, Iagree it does take a very good dog to take numbers reularly(single handed)But like you said on the dvd you can see them waiting for a safe strike even though they have backup,In my eyes that is not a fox dog.
