Fine.....as long as you are prepared when poking the trusty 410 through the cage bars to get an eye full of No 6 shot.

As an alternative I built a shooting bench from these plans http://www.guncustomizing.com/shootingbench.htm For the top I used 10mm ply and doubled it for thickness, glued it together and then screwed it for added security. The three legs I bought from Ikea (cost £7 each) and the beauty of the legs is that they screw into the base of the bench and are in fact telescopic which is great for adjustment on uneven ground. After shooting the legs unscrew for easy transit. Unlike the plans on that website, if you get the Ikea legs, they come with a separate base plate to accept the leg screws

I always understood that the term 'Buck Fever' was used as a reason why a shooter missed or was unable to take the shot - in other words was unable to control his body movements at the point of taking the shot. I believe just about all of us start to have out hearts rushing and find our hands shake a little as a result of the physical relief after containing it to take the shot, but I would not call that buck fever but simply relief. Well......that's how I interpret it.

I would suggest you get yourself onto U Tube and put in Ammosmith and have a look at the various vids he has put up. He is a knowledgeable guy. Unlike the guy Swampy in #2 post who admits he is very Heath Robinson which is born out by some of his comments and awful grouping results, Ammosmith produces consistent results with his reloading techniques but you should be aware reloading is not all about cutting corners. Once you have gained some knowledge from these vids, I would seriously suggest you find someone in your area that is an experienced reloader and basically have a look over his

It varies according to police authority as to what they will do - this is why there should be a single national licensing body not 40 odd. J. This is how it is - in my area it has to be exact calibre, stating just (for example) .22 c/f is not good enough.

What sort of "Deer?" are these please??
dicehorn replied to Deker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Must say they look like fallow. If they were spotty they could be chitals if anyone is breeding them in the UK. -
As Deker states, you dont need a game licence to shoot game - you just need permission
-
I didn't spot it John but do you have a hook near the entrance to hang your rifle on whilst you negotiate the entrance. I have a hook on the high seats I build as I used to always panic about banging the muzzle etc when climbing into the cockpit. Peter

Had numerous knives in my time - bought one of these EKA a couple of years back - dont need to ever change - keeps a good edge. OP I have small hands - so would recommend this to a lady.

Maybe a daft question... are foxes Canibals??
dicehorn replied to blackfox's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Couple of years ago in late spring, as I came along the road at night, I could not help but run over a fox cub - there were 2 others in the road at the time. As I continued I suddenly thought although I felt the bumps of driving over one, that I should turn around and go back to make sure I had not damaged another cub. When I go there the two other cubs were tucking into their very dead mate. Picked up the dead cub and chucked it well onto the grass verge before the next car came along and claimed the other two. -
Luckily I dont have a cull plan on my patches, also depth of snow in this area (about 6")is nowhere as deep as up country. However I spoke to two farmers yesterday evening and both agreed I could take my truck over to their woods with hay to put just inside the woods where I usually see them coming out. The forecast for my area does not look too good for the next week, so will get it done today.

Had an accident whilst out shooting
dicehorn replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What would the accident have been your Lordship? -
I have taken a rifle and a shotgun on a train - both were in locked cases - not slips - basically put them on the floor under my feet, as I had someone with me also carrying a shotgum in a case one of us always stayed with the guns if nature etc called. In my eyes neither of us was breaking the law.

Legistation change regarding .22CF?
dicehorn replied to danebrewer10's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Well I will probably be shot down for saying this but when the law was changed regarding this, I was happy to learn that there was no change with regard to roe deer - 3600 fps at 50 yds on a roe is just going to make a mess on these little chaps. Also I never agreed with the extended season for deer - bad enough taking out well developed unborn young in the gralloch in late February let alone a month later. In March if I have to, I will only shoot last years calves which to me is somewhat counter productive anyway. -
To kick off the suggestions. I would doubt whether the cases are a different size than your usual as most factory chambers are on the sloppy side, So.......is your chamber spotlessly clean (not your barrel) as it sounds like over time burnt powder can build up in the chamber to cause this. You really need a calibre specific chamber brush and scrub the chamber with your usual barrel solvent and dry it out as you would with cleaning your barrel. Sometimes there are quite severe scratch marks on the case that you had difficulty in ejecting. Secondly is there any gunge where the lugs of your bolt

Reloading advise please 22-250rem
dicehorn replied to Night Hunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Hm... at 2.300" there would appear not much left of the shaft of the bullet before the ogive exposed above the top of the case neck ( mine is 2.355" however I have 37 gr of N150) I am not overly concerned, but if me, I would probably try a compremise instead of 180, I would look at say 150 thou back - if it preforms as well group wise as the 180, I would adopt the 150. - at 150 it is nearer SAAMI spec. dicehorn replied to Night Hunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Hi Mal You know what? I reckon at 180 thou back your barrel is starting to appreciate your efforts! It is not uncommon when developing different loads for your barrel to take (usually) one or two shots to climatize itself to the different pressure that a new load/distance entails - this is why 5 shots always gives a better indication of a batches' grouping - my bet would have been if you had put a further two into that target your group would still have stayed more or less at .420 I assume you are using the horizontal/vertical lines on the taget to line up on with your crosshairs? Anyway -

Sorry late in replying as above - been off shooting pheasant with my syndicate. I expect you have already done the mod test by now? Peter -
Pigeon in the pan looked good - next time try add some grated ginger and a couple of squeezes of runny honey - will make you want to go out and shoot more pigeons !! PS squirrels are not at their best at this time of the year - best time is when the new shoots are growing - a diet change to new shoots puts flavour back into their meat.

Hi Looking at the target on the left - can I assume you are left handed?? To be honest I cannot understand why you are having quite such a large grouping - so a couple of questions, You are shooting off a bipod - no problem there, but are you just putting the butt to your shoulder? If so, it may enhance your shooting whilst developing loads to have some sort of firm bag for the butt to sit on (if you do, just remove the rear stud whilst developing the load as this can have an effect of pivoting the butt when it should be firmly down on the bag/sack. Have you checked your barrel clearance -

Hi Re 130 thou back. I am assuming your 1.5" group was a round affair - as opposed to vertical/horizontal stringing? Assuming you have measured where your lands is correctly (with an AOL guage) and with the bullet seated at 130 thou back I assume that the bullet head still has about 100 thou more travel before it touches to ogive? - if so you could afford to seat the bullet perhaps another 50 thou in the case giving you 180 thou back from the lands. (my bullet head has approx 40 thou left before it touches the ogive) 35 gr would give you a little over 3600 fps which is about right for a 55 -

Whilst I dont have the book, many reloaders say that the 'ABC of Reloading' is the best book out there. Can I recommend you to this site http://ammosmith.com/ There are many instructional vids on U Tube - some are a little worrying, however the above site by Ammosmith has loads of info/vids on reloading - many quite technical but at least it gives you an understanding to the question - why? See you are married - your hobby can co exist with a wife - difficult at times, when my wife complains I tell her I would rather be gazing at primer pocket holes than looking at holes on por -

If I have no joy with the varget that I have I will certainly try the N150 next. I just came accross your recipie for it on another thread. You said that you tried H380 how did you find that it performed behind the 55gr heads The H380 performed quite well but I found it was just not consistent. NH you must always take into account that that any recipe (brass/primer/powder weight etc) given out on this forum or others are good really only for this or that guy's rifle - every manufacturer's tolerances in the making of the barrel are different within certain guidlines - even 2 barr
