  1. I know one should not pander to your childish scribblings, but 5.56 and 7.62 surely proves you are/were in the armed forces and I am so envious that you have an FAC for 'killing men' - when I applied on my FAC with the reason I wanted to kill Internet morons I was surreptitiously declined by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary - you must have caught them on a good day, do you think if I had stated 7.62 instead of 308, that may have swayed them? - don't suppose they asked you to be mentored by any chance? Thirty-six and been 'killing men' since you were sixteen - personally I think that is i
  2. Can't help you with 50 gr Blitzkings as the guy I reloaded for used 50 gr Noslers in his RWS .223 Copied from my notes: 50 GR Nosler Ogive = 1.912" (COL = 2.324) New Case Datum 1.460 Fed Gold Primers Starting Trim 1.753 N133 25.3 gr 10thou back at 1.902 (col 2.314) with 25.3g Keep shoulder Datum around 1.463" I would imagine that both heads are roughly the same - this combination produced a 5 shot group of .261 when I handed the rifle over, but, as always please work up loads. I am not a great fan of 'close to the lands' but it seeme
  3. Totally 100% +1 on this statement - if anyone thinks that by spending £5.94 as suggested above to protect their hearing is all you need to spend, then Heaven help your hearing in the future. Ask yourself why the only hearing protection used by serious clay shooter is the ones that cover more of the ear and you will be told that these bins cover the thin bone at the back of the ear where the damage to your hearing starts - not just the ear canal. Just remember that once you start loosing your hearing - you dont get any of it back. Sight is important but your hearing comes a close second.
  4. Mark, I think when you pull that factory load apart and examine the powder and weight, you will be none the wiser as 95% of ammunition makers use their own powder that is not commercially available. Your only hope would be to write to them and ask them what powder commercially available is nearest to their powder. If you do get a response just be careful as most commercial ammo runs pretty hot, so start about 10% below what powder they suggest. Peter
  5. Mark Apart from seating depth, to further improve on accuracy once you have got your seating depth about right, consider how much of the neck you need to resize - some barrels like just 1/2 , 2/3 rds or 3/4 of the neck resized. Bullet tension is so very important when you get so close to a good recipe

  8. Lets hope its may 2020 People need to know that foxes aren't cuddly benevolent little vegetarians who only buy fair trade goods. Some are lol but must confess will eat meat accasionally http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/026.jpg
  9. Agree with that order but if you have deep pockets - custom/ Sauer/Blaser
  10. If your gun cabinet does not have a separate lockable compartment, then you will have to purchase another lockable safe to store your bolt and ammo. Regarding ammo what to buy and what to hold - you can apply for as much as you want, but it will be your local Police area that will have the final say on what THEY will let you keep. (in my area, first timers usually only get hold 200 buy 100) Now, just my opinion........... the .222 only just meets the energy limit for roe in scotland. If you are restricted to a 22 centre fire then I would consider a 223 with a fast twist rate that will
  11. I believe the problem of not putting powder in the case can usually by caused by reloaders trying to reload too many cases in one go - with a tray (s) full of cases, it is easy to miss filling a case (it happened to me when I first started) Solution....... fill no more than 20 at a time, that way, in your tray of say 40 spaces it is just a simple matter of moving the filled cases to the other end of the tray. Also, just making say 20 concentrates the mind to doing a perfect job in producing 20 clones of your recipe. PS as a matter of interest, it is more dangerous to under fill a cas
  12. Another thumbs up for N133 I reloaded for a 223 user last year using 55gr Noslers & Fed Gold primers http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/RWS223.jpg
  13. Sounds like a combination of two possible problems - cases loaded too many times coupled with powder volume at the top of the safety limit. After several or many reloadings something has to give, usually it is the necks splitting, case separation or indeed primer pockets expanding. When you seat the primer you should always feel a resistance, if not, bite the bullet and renew your cases. Push the boat out and try Lapua - some of mine are on their 19th firing. Peter
  14. Personally I think they are excellent value for the money and that is coming from some one who has 2 NXS's and a Swarovski 6 - 24. I think you really need to have a look at one before you decide to buy. Mine is the same as you are interested in and gives a very clear picture even at 600 + yds and I have old eyes. A friend has one on his 6.5 and I know he would not change it. Peter
  15. I did pass your email on to Dennis and I believe he left a message on your phone Peter
  16. Have the following Theoben FAC S Type 52 foot lbs MTC Viper 6-24 x 56 Anschutz 1415 .22 rim S & B 8 x 56 Tikka M595 .17 Rem. NXS Nightorce 5.5 - 22 x 56 P8 Mod Blaser R93 Luxus 22.250 Varmint barrel NXS Nightforce 12-42 x 56 P8 Mod Blaser R93 Off Road 6.5 x 55 Swarovski 6-24 x 50 P8 Mod This year swapped in my spare Rem 700 in 22.250 and had a new Lother Walther barrel in 20 TAC fitted including new bolt and custom stock. Weighs a tonne but is used as a truck bonnet gun for fox and corvids.
  17. +1 on what he said - I have also been known to wear my breeks when deer stalking, mainly because they are comfortable and also would never be seen wearing camo . camo manufacturers are conning people about camo - what pigeons/deer/rabbits see is movement, what you wear makes no difference. Dressing up on shoot days in breeks etc is a custom - long may it continue. On my syndicate a guest turning up with a semi would not be allowed to shoot - we are not stuffy - far from it. I have been on other shoots where I have had to borrow a side by side.
  18. Seems ok for the money, but my advice would be - if you have 3 shotguns - then get a 5 gun cabinet. Problem being, if you wish to buy another gun then the 2nd hand market for the sale of your 3 gun cabinet is limited. Also if you decide to get a scoped rifle will it fit in a cabinet that is designed depth wise for shotguns?
  19. look at the new hornady 53 grain vmax. bc of .290 Hm........ .003 more than the 20 calibre 39gr BK !! - if we can believe any of the manufacturer's claims
  20. Yup the same ones that I use. I load on average 3 days a week on Commercial shoots and with an average of 350 shots per day, my ears are subject to a lot of sudden bangs. The ones that Mike has recommended (Sportac) are the choice of most loaders on the Exmoor shoots. Hunter Zero is quite correct about the bones behind the ear - something that I have mentioned in the past on this forum - I have shooting friends that now need to put their mobiles on vibrate as they can no longer hear them ringing - once your hearing is gone - its gone. Peter
  21. Anthropomorphic? well I disagree with your assumption - animal behaviourist tend to agree that even animals need a closure. African elephants will all come over to a dead member of their family - call it final respects, but after examining the corpse they move on in both senses.
  22. A couple of years ago I had to put my old spaniel down, he had started to go blind and his back legs were clearly giving up on him. I decided that I would put him down on the basis he had lived by the gun and I convinced myself he would die by the gun. On that morning I dug a hole in the garden, he followed me out into the garden and I remember sitting on the wet grass and looking into those tired old eyes that were misting over with grey and whislt I cuddled him to me I gained strength from believing that keeping him alive was being selfish. Placed him gently in the pre dug hole and was give
  23. Just to throw one more name into the pot have a look at the site of Steve Kershaw. He built my Tac 20 with a Walther Lother barrel on a Rem 700 action 1:10 twist and shoots pretty well http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/20Tac98yds-page-001.jpg http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/Middle250ydsbottom500ydsTAC20.jpg He is at present doing a 204 barrel for one of the guys on this forum - Shootingcharley
  24. If going on U Tube a good idea would be to follow the teachings of Ammosmith - his vids are excellent
