  1. Yep, lop the 4" off, you won't even notice the difference.
  2. What else did you expect? See the bottom of the article; Aideen Yourell Campaign Director IRISH COUNCIL AGAINST BLOOD SPORTS The sad thing is that most people do believe what they read in the newspapers, that's why we lost hunting as it was.
  3. What a load of BOLLOCKS....id buy a pup from a litter produced by FTCH Laganmill Malvern x FTCH Toonarmy Torrent over a pup from a litter from Johnny Blue Shoes x Shiela's Wheels, just because its gamekeeper bred ?? What the f*&k ?? Years of well bred dogs to well bred bitches so that you can say they are highly strung and advise people to gofor a springer with a mediocre pedigree from a keeper' ?? Baz Yep, that's true, after all the point of having Ftch's in the pedigree is to improve the working strain, not to breed "highly tuned and too hot to handle" dogs, they would be of no
  4. Consider that probably the majority of foxes shot with shotguns in this country are shot with 6's at game shoots, 36g of BB will kill them with no problem. I would try a pattern with your gun at 40 yds if you intend shooting at this distance though, some chokes can throw erratic patterns with BB and larger sized shot.
  5. Sure is, some belters on there!
  6. not to good clicking with mouse sometimes hit profile by mistake so if i,ve visited any one and puzzeld them sorry not to good of a shot as well Yep, I've done that as well, probably confused us both!
  7. I'll leave you guys to put a caption to this one....... :piggy:
  8. About five years back, one evening, I was sitting up an oak tree with the 243, alongside a private lane, waiting for a fox that had been seen walking through at dusk. A white Transit van pulled up and reversed into the gateway, My first thought was fly tippers, but they got two cages out of the back, opened them and released two foxes. The two foxes ran to about thirty yards past me, I shot one, the other did not even move, so I shot that one as well. The van took off like a formula 1 start, blue smoke from the tyres and all, never did find out who it was, and they could not have known where
  9. As has been asked, where is the dog?
  10. Slightly off-topic, I was discussing with a friend the other day the number of girls that now have tattoos, (unheard of when I was a lad) he said " Do you realise that in 40 years time, there will be loads of grannies with faded tattoos playing with their grandchildren in the park?". As for the original question, I have to agree with AKA-BRUNDLE, sorry, but you did ask.
  11. GENERAL LICENCES TO CONTROL CANADA GEESE The Canada goose was first added to three general licences in England by DEFRA on 1st March 2005 as provided for by the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. As of 1st January 2008 Natural England is responsible for the issuing of these licences for the following purposes only; to prevent serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber, fisheries or inland waters. to preserve public health or public safety. air safety. It is important to remember that these licences have clearly-defined terms

    Creosote

Creosote From 1 July 2003, approval for DIY uses of creosote was withdrawn and restrictions were introduced on certain uses of creosote-treated timber. Most of the restricted uses are in any case not suitable for creosoted timber due to risk of staining clothing from contact with any creosote there may be on the surface. Consequently, the major uses of creosoted timber for poles, fencing and sleepers have not changed. The WPA has advised suppliers and users of creosoted timber to review their handling, use and disposal procedures and this has largely been completed. Sale and use of old creoso
  13. A tad more maybe, but certainly not 31lb! A dog fox that I shot a few weeks ago was twice that size, it weighed 18lb. From; http://www.jorrocks.com/books/FFFH/25 "Although the average hill-fox to-day is not exactly “as fierce as a tiger, and long as a hayband,†some hefty specimens are brought to hand every season, and weights of 18lb. and 19lb. are still by no means uncommon. The heaviest fox killed by the Ullswater was one of 23lb., accounted for on Cross Fell. This fox measured 4ft 4in. long, and had 4in. of white on the end of its brush." Now THAT'S a big fox, and only 23lb!
  14. A cocker or ESS would be the best dog for the job, without any doubt. The but, and it's a big BUT is that it's your first dog, I would go for a Lab as a first dog, easy to train, sociable and reliable (but boring). A Spaniel is more like a cat, you learn to live with it rather than the other way around, they have a sense of humour (really!) and are very loyal and once trained they never forget, they are in my opinion, the most intelligent dogs available. You have to treat them as a friend rather than a possession, their only wish is to please you, and they occasionally sulk if they think
  15. Just been talking to a pest controller friend, he baits with chocolate, he gets the out of date bars from a supermarket. He says that its the best bait, don't ask me how grey squirrels have a taste for chocolate though.
  16. Peanut butter seems to do the job fine, do your traps lock shut? If not your squirrels will escape, they are resourceful little devils!
  17. Jeez, there must be easier ways to make sausages than that!
  18. Full marks to the lads for keeping their cool, more than can be said for the idiots with the camera!
  19. It's a firearm, on ticket, all legit. So it's a Crusader? Any idea of it's year of manufacture?
  20. Can some kind soul please ID which model this Theoben is, and the approximate date of manufacture if possible. The only lettering on it is "Theoben Calibre 22" on the breechblock. The wood is nicely patterned and better than most shotguns. It's a gas ram. An idea of it's approximate value would be handy also.
  21. Another idiot, granted it should have been moved from the gamekeeping section but you can see by the number of posts that plenty of members were interested. Whats wrong with a bit of live and let live? There are plenty of parts of this forum that dont interest me, that does not mean I want them deleted - whats so special about you that means anything you're not interested in ought to be deleted??? :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Well said Tyla. If all branches of country sports had stuck together we may have kept hunting as it was.
  22. Partridge and teal would be at the top of my list, followed by pintail.
  23. Yep, another vote for the .243, the all-round calibre (well, as close as you will get to one!)
  24. No, this is not correct. The only animal where this does apply is deer - the Deer Act specifically states that expanding ammunition must be used. Other animals are afforded no such protection, and thus the use of FMJ is legal. In some circumstances it is a useful tool (though personally I wouldn't, I like being humane), for example shooting an animal where you intend to keep the pelt. sorry but it was changed a few years ago you cant buy exspanding ammo if you dont have it on your certificate and it also states fmj is for target shooting only no mate there is no law to say you c
