  1. . The Magnum Trap Co Ltd has the sole UK concession. Ministry approval for use in the UK was granted in September 1995. The #55 is approved for mice and rats; the #110 for mice, rat, weasel, stoat and grey squirrel and the #116 for these plus rabbit and mink. As Matt the rat says, Theses traps are not approved for foxes, which would suggest that they are not available in the UK. What he needs for backup is a well placed snare connected to a deadfall and linked to a water butt. Now theres a well thought up despatch mode . biggrin.gif Same ,FFS. mad.gif You should be aware that
  2. I have to question whether this petition is genuine, I would not have expected Derek Canning LLB[hons] to have made a number of spelling mistakes, or to have such a poor grasp of the English language as is demonstrated above. Is there any way to check this before we all sign up our email addresses to receive unlimited spam and viruses?
  3. Some useful info here; http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/flight-ponds.cfm
  4. The only thing that I would add to the above answers is to buy a book on reloading from one of the powder or bullet manufacturers. If you are going to use Lee gear, and there is no reason not to, I have used it for the past 30 years with no problem whatsoever, I would buy Richard Lee's book 'Modern Reloading' second edition. It not only covers all aspects of reloading from start to finish, it shows how to correctly set up your loading gear, powder loads and much more.
  5. Join BASC, they will supply you with all of the relevant information for the countries that you intend to visit. It's worth the membership fee for the insurance alone. BASC may not be perfect, but they are the best in this country for up to date advice.
  6. Words from Gale McMillan, the world famous barrel maker on breaking in barrels; This is total hogwash! It all got started when a barrel maker that I know started putting break in instructions in the box with each barrel he shipped a few years ago. I asked him how he figured it would help and his reply was If they shoot 100 rounds breaking in this barrel that's total life is 3000 rounds and I make 1000 barrels a year just figure how many more barrels I will get to make. He had a point it defiantly will shorten the barrel life. I have been a barrel maker a fair amount of time and
  7. I'd go along with most of that...but I'm not happy with 10 shot mags, they dig into my back every time I sling the gun over my shoulder...personal thing......Help me out...where have you found a 10 shot mag for apparently a CZ HMR?? Cheers 10 shot mags are not and never have been available for .17hmr. Edgar Brothers, the CZ importers say that "they may be available at a later date". They also said that 12 months ago, so don't hold your breath!
  8. That's harsh if it was a first offence. Essex Police have issued warnings when this has occurred, I know of one person that has had two warnings because his shotgun was not in the cabinet when the police called unexpectedly. The second time they called was with the sole purpose of checking whether it was in the cabinet. On both occassions he had been shooting and the gun was waiting to be cleaned. He received a written warning from the County Firearms office on both occassions. It makes you wonder if there was more to this case, or are the police always this hard on gun owners in your area?
  9. Check the barrel securing screw. If the wood gets compressed through overtightening the tip of the screw will contact the barrel, this can ruin accuracy. It will show as a bright ring on the barrel (inside the bush that is attached to the barrel) where the blue has been removed. To cure this, cut a couple of threads off with a hacksaw and replace.
  10. Yep, this works, but if the fox is lamp shy and visits after dark, it's no help. If this is the case, your only solution is to find someone local who uses NV.
  11. Is John Coleman the butcher still buying game? He's not far from you, he will be in the phone book. I've taken several deer to him in the past, might be worth a try. We used to take our rabbits to Jimmy Ling at Hoxne on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, but I believe that he has retired now. The other option is Colchester market, they had several hanging up there the last time that I went, a couple of weeks ago.
  12. Check that the barrel securing screw is not going too deep into the bush and hitting the barrel, this will play havoc with accuracy, it will show as a bright ring on the barrel if it is. Shorten the screw by a couple of threads if this shows. Also as has been said, Winchester is notorious for bad batches. Try another batch number or different ammo, all 10/22's seem to have a different taste, one of mine will only shoot well with Remington, the other with CCI.
  13. The thought of the smell that will go with boiling a fox head is mind boggling, and divorce material at the very least. Bury it in the garden for a couple of months, let the worms do the job for you! If you are determined to go this route, just boil it until all of the flesh comes off, then a blast with a pressure washer should shift most of it. You may have to scrape some cartilage off, then a dunk in Domestos.
  14. Rather a delay since your questions, and you probably have it sorted by now, but; The IR filter on your Cluson will make a world of difference to your NV, it has to be seen to be believed. The down side being that a Cluson IR filter will probably cost an arm and a leg (its £102.95 for an IR lens for a Striker). The up side being that you can buy a sheet of IR lens material on fleabay for a tenner and it works equally as well. Just cut it to shape with a jigsaw and bolt it on with the original lens bolts. Seal any visible white light with black masking tape. I did my Cluson last year, it's
  15. According to the 2008/9 Deben catalogue, a 20AH battery will last for 90 minutes with a 100W bulb, 150 minutes with a 55W bulb, and 255 minutes with a 30W bulb.
  16. It's really a matter of taste, some happily use 6x others use the whole range. There is no all purpose scope, although a variable comes as close as you will get. I would say buy the best that you can afford, a Zeiss will give you another 20 mins of shooting at dusk. The other thing that I would say is to buy a variable, even if you do use it at one setting, it's a cheaper option than buying a range of magnifications trying to find one that suits you. I use a Zeiss 3-12 x 56 Diavari T* on my 223, it's set at 8x for most uses, and 12x for long range crows and magpies. The other point to co
  17. Yep, we started feeding this week-end. First shoot is 12th September.

  19. Latest toy; Remington 700 XCR Tactical in 223, 26" barrel, pillar bedded, with ATN Mars 6x CGTI and Harris bipod.
  20. can any of you lads answer this question please I use an ATN Mars CGTI x6, which allows fox shooting at 250 yards (with my eyes), you would not be able to tell the difference between a running rabbit and a hare at 500 yards with this set-up, nor would you be able to distinguish dogs at this range, unless they were very different in colour, i.e. one black, one yellow. thank you for your imput need to no as a mate of mine has an up and coming court case and this is there only evidence they are saying the seen a brown lurcher type dog chasing a hare and they were parked 500 yards away

  22. It's really not as simple as just coating bullets and shooting. I would suggest that you read up on moly before using it. Rifles have been known to get a build up of moly in the barrel that will affect accuracy, also if you load your own, you need to increase the powder load to keep the same velocity, as moly is such an efficient lubrication.
  23. was thinking of a good quality leopold scope,do you think one of there 40obj would transmit good light i use a fixed power 6-42 smidt bender 30mm tube on my 223..do 200 yard rabbits with ease, 95% of my shooting is at night... would a 50 obj give a wier feild of veiw yes 50 does, have a look at other shooters scopes, or all of the scopes in the shop before you buy. Spend as much as you can afford on your scope, it's as important as the gun.
  24. There you go, an Eley tracer, the black one.
  25. Eley Kynoch made them, 1938 to 1946 and again in 1967 to 1970. gamebore made them around 1970, called "Manton Tracer". The only ones that I am aware of being made today are in the USA. If you find any eley's, they are unlikely to work, there was a problem with the barium mix becoming insensitive after 6 months or so.
