From a Gamekeeper who wanted a fox sorted; "I'm in the pub pi55ed", and this 10 minutes before we were due to go, We then arranged to go at the same time the following night, and I got the same call, also 10 minutes before we were due to leave. On this night the fox got into his pen and killed 63 layers. Oddly enough I have been busy every time that he has called since.

dont we all matey, mine is set to LOW.........bloody hell, some vets are real plums!! What all animals (humans included) have is a survival instict which means they can endure some horrific injuries when faced with a life or death situation........dont mean it dont bloody well hurt!! :clapper: Hmm, they are only plums until it comes to writing bills, that's one thing that they all excel at!

Yep, as Sportingshooter says, you don't need one, and according to BASC you can't get one as they are not issued to the public, also there are 30 general licences so how you have been "using one for many years" is confusing. From the BASC site; WALES General licences in Wales are valid from 1st January – 31st December 2009. The Welsh Assembly Government has not made the licences available online but BASC has provided downloads of the most relevant licences on its website at: www.basc.org.uk/content/pestandpredatorcontrol Details of the relevant General licences are here; htt

Have to agree about damson jam, however, it does make good damson gin, just use in place of sloes!

If you are a member of BASC, I would suggest that you contact them immediately. If you are not, then this is an example of why everybody who owns a gun should be. In a public place a cap gun can be classed as a firearm, although unless you were threatening people with it, I think it unlikely that this will go any further.

It's almost impossible to gauge the amount of noise when you are behind the gun, I would take a mate with you next time, get him to do the shooting whilst you listen from various distances. Any buildings, walls etc will give an echo that makes the noise appear louder and distorted

Poachers use the 22r/f to shoot deer, but that does not make it a deer rifle. Realistically a rabbit is the largest quarry for a 22, even a hare will often need more than one shot to kill it. In answer to your original question, I would go for the 22rf and a 223, best of luck!

There are a lot of scopes that do not have sunshades made for them, find a piece of kitchen drain pipe or gutter down pipe, (the lighter weight, the better) that is a reasonable fit on the outside of the scope, if it's loose, a couple of turns of insulation tape on the scope will cure it, paint it black inside and out, and slide on, looks as good as a genuine shade. A back pack or fanny pack is the answer to the carry problem.

Here is your chance to ask for an investigation into the RSPB
bobndog replied to DEREK CANNING LLB[HONS]'s topic in Falconry
Ooh look, on this site, July 24th; BIRDMAN Derek Canning made legal history yesterday when he became the first man in Britain to be jailed for stealing and selling rare birds of prey. Genetic fingerprinting techniques were used to put the illegal trader behind bars in a case brought under European law by Northumbria Police. Canning, 33, of The Broomhaugh, Riding Mill, Northumberland, was sentenced to 18 months for keeping and selling 22 peregrine falcons, worth around £700 each. Newcastle Crown Court was told he had maps pinpointing the positions of at least 10 peregrine eyries in Nor -
The Law on carrying knives is very simple; CARRYING KNIVES The British Association for Shooting and Conservation Ltd, Marford Mill, Rossett, Wrexham LL12 0HL Tel: 01244 573000 Fax: 01244 573013 The use and carrying of Knives (Criminal Justice Act 1988 & Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006) It is now ILLEGAL to have any sharply pointed or bladed instrument in your possession, in a public place without good reason or lawful authority. Muck Boots get my vote, warm, comfortable. No problem with the grip as has been mentioned, they are too warm for this weather, but then aren't all wellies?

Chap who lives opposite me had exactly the same problem, although he only wanted a SGC. he applied, was honest with his FEO and got it. The only thing that I would say in your case, is to apply for a SGC only, once you have it apply for the FAC. There is no way that they can say that you are safe to hold a SGC but not a FAC. If you really anticipate problems, join BASC now, before you apply for the SGC, they will fight your case. Providing that you do not have a criminal record, there should be no problem.

If the barn has an asbestos roof, you are going to damage it with a 410, been there, done that. I would use a 9mm 'garden' gun. Oh, and check the date for the start of the rat shooting season........

new permission Roads and footpaths
bobndog replied to Shocks's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
From the BASC site; The public highway * Shoot managers and Guns must ensure that shooting does not obstruct, cause danger or alarm to users of the public highway, including roads, bridleways, footpaths and other rights of way. * Guns should note that to shoot across a footpath or bridleway that is in use by walkers or riders may constitute a public nuisance or wilful obstruction. There may also be a liability in negligence if it is known that people are on, or likely to be on, the path. * In particular, care should be taken when siting Guns near roads. Section 161 of the -

If you can keep your head whilst those around you are losing theirs.....you'll be the tallest man in the room. Spike Milligan. What does not kill you, will try again. Hard work never killed anyone, but why chance it? Confession is good for the soul, but bad for your career. Jesus loves you! It's everybody else that thinks you're a ****. Bills travel through the post at twice the speed of cheques. Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now. Borrow money from pessimists- they don't expect it back. A conscience is what hurts when all your other part

People dont seem to bother with them nowdays, theres acres of them near me ,this morning i picked a gallon in a few minutes. Another sign of the times I guess, the whole village would be out when I was a boy. Mushrooms, blackberries, sloes, crab apples, chestnuts, hazel nuts, water cress, wheat heads that the binder missed (for the chickens) and one that I never could get my head around; Medlars, you had to leave them until they were rotten before eating them, yuck!

shotgun certificate question
bobndog replied to greengrass08's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
As Sporting shooter says, put it all down, they have it all in your records anyway, and they will check. -
As above new tyre, never been on road, on alloy Daihatsu Sportrack wheel. Wheel in good condition. £65. Collect only. NE Essex area.

Yes, no problem. The biggest problem that I have found with scope-mounted lamps is that when you lift the gun to your eye to shoot, the scope is not pointing where the gun is, it takes a very small knock to move it, especially when you are walking, climbing gates, jumping ditches etc.

I assume that you will be using a centre fire rifle as you mention foxes. The Lightforce 170 is all that you will need, £84.95 in the Deben catalogue that I have. Any light attached to a rifle will make it a very bulky item, it's easier with a lamper and a shooter. There are smaller lights, i.e. Atom and Max that come with scope fitting attachments, but they are not really powerful enough for spotting fox eyes at long distance. The 170 has a 600 metre beam, ample your purpose, adjustable focus, and light to carry. Have a look here; http://www.deben.com/lights_lamping/lightf..._held_lamps.p

The average price for Weaver scope bases is £7 including VAT, scope rings will add another £15-£28 for medium height 1" rings. According to the Savage web site, bases are included on the 17 series; http://www.savagearms.com/93r17fss.htm

As coldweld says, it depends on many things, make of brass, age of brass, size of chamber, whether you neck size or full-length. What has the most bearing on case life is how hot you load, get up to maximum pressures and you may only get a couple of loads before cases split or primer pockets enlarge. For standard loads expect 15-30 plus re-loads. For mild loads, the cases may well last as long as the gun.
