  1. Id never claim that pointer crosses are better than other crosses and neither would anyone ive met who works them. There are loads of types of lurcher to choose from and we all just pick the ones that we like and suit us. As Warren says Nell didnt need pointer in her same as my bitch didnt need collie in her.............different crosses working on the same type of land week in week out. As far as my bitch is concerned i think its easy to just think of her as a gwp cross because she looks like one and then overlook the fact that her sire was from nuttalls yard which i think will have playe
  2. Hi Mickey, she is out of a GWP bitch to one of craig nuttalls coursing dogs. she has a good nose but more importantely the relentless drive to keep searching for scent for however long she has to to find something.i think nose itself is only part of what makes a good hunting dog. sadly ive heard little about any of the litters of gwp crosses that craig bred. i own a pure GWP aswell and her coat is very similar, ive worked this dog regularly in the north of england and the weather can get pretty bad sometimes but her coat hasnt let her down. on the downside she isnt very fast, was a ni
  3. the video isnt on here anymore sorry.if i knew how to put video clips on the internet myself people would be sick of watching them there would be so many of them my bitch, the one that looks like a gwp is almost seven years old.
  4. a few more pics,i like to watch dogs hunting in the snow because the rabbits can get tucked in tight and can take a bit of locating especially if its a deep drift beside a wall or fenceline.
  5. cant find it mate. I had the clip took down,it was nothing special just a dog snapping up a few bolting rabbits.I dont do much ferreting now unless asked to or if there arent many rabbits sat out.For some reason, perhaps mixi or viruses, there often wasnt as many rabbits for the dogs to hunt up last season but by using a ferret on the smaller shallow earths you can quickly supply a few bunnies for your dog which i think is a nice ending to a trip out if your dog has been hunting hard with little reward.
  6. thats a good looking dog you have there Warren.
  7. i never took enough with mine to say either way and we never see fox on the heavily keepered grouse moors.ive heard of lads that ran into fox fairly regularly with gwp crosses but ive never had the chance to meet them to find out the score.
  8. Forget the four dvds i made, they just show lurchers snapping up bolted rabbits...................my advice to anyone who wants to see a pointer cross is to see it hunting up for a few hours on reedy dales or moorland.
  9. Ive been busy making new dog boxes for the mutts for the last few days and have been letting the dogs run around the allotment gardens.Anyway this evening i spotted my insane GWP running around with something in his mouth, this isnt unusual as he really isnt all together there On closer inspection i realized he had hold of a rat and was shaking it like pointers do,with enthusiasm It turned out to be a fairly biggish rat though as ive said it had been stretched by a mad German.Later on we took the terriers out to the wasteland nearby and they found a couple of little uns.
  10. wasnt there a feature done about this boat in Sea Angler a few years ago? It sounds great but ill have to settle for wreck fishing trips for now.I should be getting out in the next week or two from Hartlepool. This year ill be making sure i have enough bait as twice last year the mackeral werent around and bait got scarce,i ended up having to use the whiting and pouting that were being caught. It was frustrating watching lads who had brought enough mackeral with them hauling out good sized ling on baited pirks.
  11. nice one lads, rat shooting is an addictive sport
  12. weve just got back from a very wet half hours ratting.i dont mind rain but this was pretty heavy and i didnt fancy staying long.still its a few more rodents.
  13. no chance mate, she went to a show today and we could have gone ratting last night and tonight but she says she is tired.those shows must be exhausting
  14. yeah its him,he is getting to be a grumpy old sod but i like him.
  15. thanks to amanda and scott for another good ratting session. i struggle to get rats all year but especially in the summer so today was a welcome bonus.
  16. Good luck with it mate
  17. All you can do is work it and find out, same as any dog Pup must be ready for some rats soon is it mate??make sure you take a camera
  18. in the past when i didnt have anywhere to go ratting id have been willing to travel a good distance for just a few rats.it all depends on how much ratting your doing in your area.same as any type of hunting really.put it this way if i ever get to the point where i cant go out and get a few rats locally id be willing to drive to this lads place from the north-east to catch even a dozen. i guess if you like ratting and have a dog that hasnt caught one for a month then you would have to travel.i would anyway.
  19. there was a medieval warm period and a warm spell when the romans were here.if winds like we had in 1703(think thats the year) came now they would say its global warming. governments use it to tax us to the hilt and religious groups see it and any natural disasters as the predictions in the book of Daniel coming true. the head of europes space thingy said last year he didnt think mankind could affect climate change but that we are polluting the sea etc which isnt good for our well being.
  20. there was a good article in total sea fishing last month about catching conger from a kayak.
  21. good luck with the litter old dog.
