  1. It was a tight schedule to get back from excercising one pack before going out with this one, then i had my own dogs to walk out for an hour in the rain, mind i was already soaking. i even managed to get our lasses terrier a rat before finally heading for a shower and bed. I must be keen or mad,i think its a fine line with working dogs
  2. er would you like to rephrase that another good session shooting rats with half and half
  3. another good session with half and half.
  4. Im glad you enjoyed it,i expected a few more rabbits to be about but mixy has been really bad up there this year and a very still, clear night didnt help. Still its always nice to see a lurcher learning the game and my bitch has done nothing but kill a few rats since april so it will have helped to start getting her fitter for the season. see you soon mate.
  5. hopefully theres plenty left, the crops have only just started to come down and the days are shorter so the main ratting season is still to come the vast majority of the rats in these pics couldnt be taken with dogs but we might get a few sessions in when the cover comes down. shooting rats takes some beating
  6. your lad kept those hounds in line mate.
  7. after an uneventfull day out with hounds it was good to shoot a few rodents. Half and Halfs permission is the biz,
  8. a couple more tonight out with Half and Half.
  9. its good sport, ive had a good fortnight on the rats with dogs and the gun plus two brilliant days out with hounds but yesterday i only caught a couple of small pollack and a few flatties from a days fishing at Whitby.you cant always have good days and maybe you need the rubbish days to appreciate the good ones.
  10. tonight i had a look out with our lass and her dog and i took my lurcher.i think we went too early before the rats were feeding but we got a couple .both our lamps were playing up and needed temporary repairs.we put the dogs away and i shot another two rats around the slurry pit but its not safe to get the bodies.that made it five rats and i bagged a rabbit.a poor night really what with getting the timing wrong and lamps braking but not a complete waste. fishing tomorrow and then ill have to solder up the lamp before i can do anymore shooting.
  11. Johns shop is packed full of gear for us hunters and its all at good prices. Those of us from co.durham are lucky to have him on our doorstep.
  12. i wouldnt say you need lightning reflexes for ratting,i only aim for the head of rats that are stood still.however it pays to know your permission well and really get to know your guns aim points. i had an hour out tonight with an old school mate of mine that is a keen fisherman but is wanting to do more with dogs and air-rifles.he has a spring gun but no lamp so isnt as yet geared up for the type of shooting i do but i managed to bag 8 rats to give him some kind of idea of whats involved. before i left the farmer came out to say he thinks it might be an idea to go over earlier with the d
  13. i get that pretty often,i very rarely blank because i usually find a few that can be shot/taken with a dog but i know that when i go out tonight on another place ill see rats around the calf pens that are happily sat there feeding which i cannot take a shot at.all any of us can do is to go hunting as much as possible..................numbers are nice but you can only take whats there infront of a safe backdrop
  14. another good session on the rats, due to rats falling into tight gaps and the cover being so thick its impossible to locate all the bodies but we got enough back for a photo.
  15. i just feed raw and my dogs love them. i sometimes have to mince other fish up and mix it in with other food but for some reason they will eat mackeral any way it comes.
  16. nice one theres been some crappy weather lately, all you can do is turn out and make the best of it.
  17. Half and Half got yet another place to shoot on so this evening we had a look around to see where the rats are living, feeding etc.We werent there for a proper shooting session just a chance to meet the farmer and get shown around. The cover was high and we were a bit early to see all the rats out feeding and it soon got dark but we should do ok when set-up for nightime shooting. We managed to bag a few though
  18. sounds like you enjoyed yourself mate.im recently back from an hours ratting.
  19. good pics mate.you should have some sport with those dogs
  20. ive used them in the past but went back to wood.its a shame i didnt find them as good as wooden beds because i work in a factory containing at least 500 plastic barrels
