  1. sounds like she did well mate, look forward to seeing her up the fells next season.
  2. It dosent sound crap mate,we all started out as hunting newbies and i can still remember the first rat my first terrier caught years ago. Ive had a few since then but im still as keen to hunt them, one rat or more it dosent matter.Weve just got back from a lamping session with our lasses terriers. Good fun everytime, keep at it
  3. nice dog, ive seen two of these crosses and both looked like mini gwps.i liked them and thought they were perhaps a better size for what i want than my pure gwp is.
  4. i kill too much stuff to feed it all to the dogs and ferrets and i know few people who want rabbits and game for themselves.we sometimes drop a dozen or so rabbits off for a lad with hawks but thats only in the summer as in the winter he is hunting himself. little is wasted in nature.dead rats, birds, rabbits will be eaten by stoats, weasels, mink, birds of prey, fox and badger.anything thats left goes back into the ground just like we all will.............i dont feel guilty about leaving dead animals in the countryside as im just giving a predator an easy meal.
  5. not as many about tonight,i had a little un dragged away and a pigeon couldnt be retrieved from between two old water tanks.still a good night
  6. nice terrier swanhunter, sort a walk out sometime lads
  7. dogs are looking good mate, give me a shout if your going for a walk out one night or weekend.
  8. get the lamping sorted, ive enjoyed hundreds of hours out at night using the air-rifle and dogs together.
  9. i always enjoy my ratting regardless of how many are caught(though i wish we had more ratting). rats are also brilliant for giving any dog something to hunt but especially the young and the older ones.
  10. Just got back from another shooting session.Half and Half took 20 rats and i had 6 rats and 3 ferals. Excellent night but id left my phone at home so no pic
  11. it was another good night and theres still enough rats left to go at.ill be suprised if theres many ferals left though i went on a bit of a mission last night.id rather handle rats than those dirty feckers.
  12. i think im almost there with rabbits but stopping him tracking hare and deer will be alot harderl.
  13. another night of rat shooting. the wind at times didnt help but we did ok.
  14. thats what im wanting, a dog that can be used with any type of gun. become a ferreting dog find and point rabbits and game for guns, lurchers or in the future a hawk. plus kill rats
  15. cheers mate, he did lose his head once on a strong scent and go off hunting ignoring me but thats going to happen to start with. thanks for the invites its much appreciated.
  16. I shoot in light drizzle and my gun gets a bit wet.i dont dry it properly though which is why its the most rusty gun on THL I wouldnt do it if i cared about my gun though.
  17. It dosent suprise me that plummers can make usefull dogs.Firstly because ive owned them for 13 years and secondly because CP who bred the earlier dogs(pre PTA) shot rabbits over his regularly. I could shoot rabbits and game over my terrier and lurcher but i like the style of the HPRS.The way they hunt and point interests me,for some reason i cant enjoy seeing a spaniel, terrier etc work as much as these slower pointer things.Just personal choice...........as in all types of dog.
  18. looks like youve had some very good days
  19. all my plummers retrieved what they caught but on the steep uneven hills they would have struggled to bring back a number of rabbits, plus a small terrier would be unsighted nearly everytime.it would have taken too long and alot of effort...............it can be hard even for bigger dogs sometimes.i think a terrier could make a good dog though on other land.
  20. Last week i took my Gwp out with a mate and his shotgun for the first time and again last night. He also went on his first ferreting trip on saturday.i dont own a shogun just an air-rifle but i enjoy working the dog . Anyway on friday i shot a woodpigeon which i seemed to hit right but when i went to collect it there was no sign so i used the dog to find it in the bramble patches. He came on point and i got it out.Theres no-way id have found it without the dog. Tonight i was pottering around the garden when he came on point beside a pile of rubbish and wood.I went and got the gun and so as
