  1. Have you two got lost, I think your in the wrong section? fair comment
  2. i havent owned a good ratting/hunting terrier for a few years but the terrier i do have kills rats every week.he can look pretty good on his own or out with others but i can still remember when his mother and later his son(more plummer blood) were always beating him to a rat or finding one where he had gone past. people should buy whatever they want...................for the amount of ratting i do anything does to be honest.
  3. Its easy to get overdogged but i think alot depends on age aswell as older dogs go into semi retirement and young uns are brought on.so someone might own a few dogs but is only seriously working a couple. for me four dogs is about right, even then they are different types for different forms of hunting.
  4. Ill be there mate, wild horses couldnt keep me away
  5. To be honest im not too bothered that its over because ive only been working one lurcher for most of the season and she needs a rest..................she was out last sat and sunday and was definately looking tired and even just looked at a few rabbits that if she was fit and fresh she would have tried for.The same happened at the end of last season. I also feel wrecked and cant wait to get some sun and nice summer evenings out with dog and gun.Plus the fishing will start and i want to do more on the boats fishing the wrecks than i have for the previous years.I really do feel i havent done en
  6. Whilst talking to a keeper last night we agreed this would be the last weekend for the season.Ill still be up there on some parts messing about through the summer but daytime hunting with lurchers is over untill the end of august. .Ive had a great season working the lurcher plus ratting and other sport.I had planned to start Alfie next season but seeing as im out with the lurcher tomorrow i thought id spend the morning showing him what the ferret does and trying to stop him running after escaping rabbits. At this time of year what rabbits are left have seen a few dogs and dont sit tight so wh
  7. i can see what you mean. its a bit like when ive visited America and been called a European,i hate it but thats how they see me.
  8. fair point kiwi,i like these dogs for their hunting ability...............though the pointing bit is handy............and the retrieving is nice but not as important to me. for me its all about the H rather than the P and R with these HPRS
  9. you want to see him ratting mate
  10. the first time i tried it i used the lead attached straight to the dogs collar but it kept getting wrapped around his legs and caught up on reeds etc.then i happened to see a book on tracking which my mate was reading at work and they use harnesses on their german shepards.i already had a harness from when my lurcher broke her neck and it worked a treat.
  11. why kiwi? they are after all german wire haired pointers. the lead is 30 foot but i dont think ill need it for long.
  12. THESE POINTERS DO SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD GUARDING INSTINCT. IM PROBABLY GOING TO TAKE HIM FERRETING ON SATURDAY,ILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I GET ON.
  13. I really enjoyed yesterdays trip out,im looking forward to the next one. I didnt know it was 3 years to the day you lost Mack untill afterwards. He looks well in the pic. many thanks mate.
  14. lovely looking dog mate,i saw chippers pup a few weeks back and its a good looking animal aswell.
  15. no he isnt.last time i spoke to him a few months ago he had two parke/plummer cross bitches and a fell terrier dog.
  16. I prefer working dogs to shooting but i enjoy air-rifle shooting.Last week i went out shooting rats two nights, caught a few rats with the dogs on two nights and spent saturday and sunday out with the lurcher. If you have the time you can do a variety of things in one week,if my spare time was limited id only go out with a dog...............or if i only had land more suited to a gun id maybe not keep any dogs As for being sporting and all that,a keeper asked me on saturday to ferret a wood. The rabbits i caught in nets didnt stand much of a chance of escaping.I dont think air-rifle shooting
  17. I really must make an effort to go squirrel shooting this year.
  18. stop using the wind as an excuse just because you only got that wee on the right in the picture thats 140 and counting those little uns are a small target to hit the stumpy tailed big bugger was easy.he just sat there looking back at me with no fear.
  19. yes they are, they are mostly average length but some are bulky.
  20. 4 RATS 3 PIGEONS TOTAL 25
  21. The wind has affected this weeks shooting, its a bit annoying when your seeing rats but you know theres no chance of taking a shot.Anyway we did our best in the circumstances.Another body was found after the pic was taken.
  22. Yeah its rusty, that might be due to me having never looked after it
