to be honest im not too bothered and wish them well,if id been more willing to shoot more they maybe wouldnt be on there.i dabble with an airgun but anyone willing to sit from 8.30 untill midnight with night vision is going to do a far better pest control job than me walking about picking off a few rats with a pack of dogs running around. im more frustrated knowing that i want another terrier but that terriers need constant,regular work.for the first time in years im planning to get a dog that i dont as yet have enough work for.............thats a worrying prospect.i could take it rabbitin

i went over a farm tonight mainly to get my litter picker that id left behind on the previous two trips and after tallying up this months score i wanted three more rats to make it 850 for the year so far between dogs and gun. id taken two with the dogs when the other lads who also shoot on there arrived.all tooled up with new night-vision etc.nothing wrong with that and they are just trying to get some sport.anyway i shot another one to get what i went for and came away early. i just need to get out there and find more ratting,or at least more ratting for the dogs..................im fair

its a shame i had to miss this one,sounds like a cracking good night.even if id got back in time i think id have been too tired to hold the gun.

thanks again for the invite we just need some colder weather for the dogs and for the cover to die back. i finished the day by taking my pointer out onto a long bankside which has thick cover where he hunted up and flushed three fox.they were safe from him on this land but it was good to see him hunting them.a perfect finish to what was a great weeks hunting.

anybody who has a terrier for ratting and bushing and gets out enough will run into a few fox each season.maybe not many but lets say a dozen.therefore a terrier usually self enters and is started by accident.

I would have thoght that to get the 100 you would have to pick the runs on rabbit infested land so there wouldnt be much chance of wiping out your future sport. ive never been on land where it could be done and i certainly dont own a dog that could do it. but maybe it could be done,however even if it was done it couldnt be proved,at least not to everyone.

think long and hard about weather you want this type of dog.if you do then you have to decide what you want a gwp crossed with,greyhound,lurcher,saluki??????? like any cross they arent all the same,you have half crosses,dogs with just a quarter,or lurcher to lurcher bred. some open up,my bitch didnt but she did round sheep up for a few weeks. gwp cross,you would have to be mad

the farmers were busy getting their crops in tonight and the rats were scarce.still a good night though..............you can only shoot whats there.

ratting permission can come and go for various reasons and farms that were once teeming with rats can go dead.like alot of hunting you just have to keep trying to get more land and chase up every lead. i hope you get another venue sorted soon.

mixy is seriously bad where i go,the younger keepers up there are saying its as bad as they have known it.

some of its not the easiest of ground to lamp on with all the ditches and hilly reed covered ground(perfect for daytime though) and a full moon only makes it harder but it was still a good night. great to see young dogs learning the trade and getting a few runs. the better nights will come

i went over a farm tonight to have a look about with the dogs,they marked a few spots which might provide a few rats for the dogs when the cover dies back a bit.as it had started to get dark i went to get my lamp out of the car only to realize id left the bit that connects the lamp to the battery at home we had a look around but the dogs had no chance.a really stupid mistake,i need to sort my s**t out.

i might have been if id won the King Rat competition which was supposed to end on the first of September but ive heard on the grapevine its now running untill the end of the year :D

it was raining heavy last night and the farm dogs were loose which pretty much spoilt it for my dogs.instead of leaving with nothing i had a quick look around with the gun and bagged a few but had to leave three more rats where they died on the slurry pit.still it turned out an enjoyable enough hour.
