Well me and my mate russ took an early run up to the dales to get the rabbit numbers back. Another good weekend of mooching, beer, lamping, beer, eating, beer and then some ferreting the next morning. we went for for 40 and got there before we decided to head off home. For tea i made us rabbit kebabs....went down a treat. Just love it up there, camping up there you just cant beat.

I used the mk1 for years and years, then went straight to mk3 4 years ago and never looked back. In all that time i've never had a problem with it, apart from having to give it a good clean. Its extremely accurate and really easy to use, and those that are struggling are missing out on a ggod piece of kit. I'd love to know who they asked to review it when they switched from the mk 2, then onto a new mk 3. Because there are few bit bits that shouldv'e been changed...most points noted by vin. I'd say the locate/search & on/off buttons need to be those sealed rubberised switches, so muck

Nice one mate. I'm taking a run up north this weekend to try out that jill you gave me.

nah..just a joke!!!

100 days!!!! what happens to dogs in the wild then, no hunting and just a few trips to asda.

When you say run, do you mean lamping or just a free running when out mooching. You can run them, but each bitch reacts differently when in season.
-
yep...plenty out there

i've started but only done 2 sessions for a couple of hours. Testing a couple of new ferrets and taken the nephew out as well. nice and easy, no stress and getting back into is just great.

I've seen a few bull/whippets do their stuff and i love the way they work....100% all the time. Non stop going for it. Moll on here has a 1st cross, its like a little tank and wont stop at anything. Sometimes not for her own ( i think Moll might add to this)....lol And my mate(he is on here) has one as well, (mainly whippet with some bull in there). Again totally comitted at all times and will never stop. The only time i've seen that dog slow up, when it had a big stick run into hip last season and i still reckon he would have carried on. Both these dogs are a dream to watch, sometimes

This stuff i put down on a friends door to stop the slugs coming in. Put it round the base of the bowl, should work just the same. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SLUG-TAPE-COPPER-TAPE-REPELLENT-30MM-X-LONGER-4M-ROLL-MINIMUM-EFFECTIVE-WIDTH-/390398807893?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Garden_Plants_Weed_Pest_Control_CV&hash=item5ae5950f55

derbylad1 replied to johnnylestershair's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Obvious by my name on here...lol but now set up in Macclesfield. Too many lads doing it in Derby and devastated the good area's. (plenty of mixy about 10 year ago as well). In macc i have plenty of permission and still on the outskirts of some good running land for the day time. -
lamping competition in manchester area?
derbylad1 replied to Floyd17586's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Because mate...its my warped way of saying, its a bad idea. i wasn't having a dig! Your best way is find out who is from the area, get to know them and trust them. then go run the area all you like. -

lamping competition in manchester area?
derbylad1 replied to Floyd17586's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
thats through enough mate but as i said before suggestions are more than welcome.all im looking for is a good day out with like minded people to have a laff and bit of sport with the dogs. I'd have been up for this, however you wanna go lamping during the day, you've told every anti on here the area you'd want to run and you have no limitations on who goes.....as they say on dragons den..."I'm out!" -

I'm agreeing with what wrote here. Lets get back to what the lad was asking....but no real answer can be given. He has the choice between 2 different pups, one a 1/4 cross and the other a 1/2 cross. Lets be honest here...its pot luck how those pups will turn out. The 1/2 cross, may end up being quicker than the 1/4 cross and the 1/4 cross may end up showing more brain, because it really is a lottery out there. However, you likelyhood of a 1/4 being quicker..and so on...is a lot higher(usually)....lol You really need to look at the quarry you hunt, the land you'll run the dog on and how you

What's the best type of lurcher for catching rabbits.
derbylad1 replied to Dranny GLC's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
borzoi's...f*****g best dog i've ever seen on a rabbit -
f**k me your dogs must be fit as feck with 4 1/2 hours walking everyday.....lol I've started using the spring loaded type after free lance showed me that. great piece of kit, but i try and get on the long bridle paths and leave them to follow me. Hour in the morning for both dogs, then xena will get a run out with the bike or free running on the farms in the evening.

Now dont take this as arguing mate, because if i'm honest i've not read all the posts. But if that dog gave up...did it jack or was it using its brain as it knew there was no chance of a catch. Every dog, in every situation and every use of a dog is different. Some dogs dont continue their run due to injury (so fair play, there's the reason), others stop the run due to intelligence and that'll give you a dog that can make another run for you and not totatally knackered. This type of dog (usually feckin collies curs...lol) is one that will think on its feet. So all "jackers" cannot be put i

If you holding a dog on the lead, it must be a right pain in the arse holding the dog back when you have other stuff to get on with. resetting nets, entering ferrets, picking up netted rabbits, etc etc...oh and drinking ya brew
-
Great pics Moll and looks a great day out. however what a waste of a bull crosses, our sport is being shown in a bad light, its an illegal use of dogs and they're not proper ferreting dogs....lol
-
If you have a dog on a slip/lead then the dog is not ferreting. If you hold your dog back, how will it learn the ropes and become that good ferreting dog. If it always on the lead when the ferret is down below, it wont learn to mark, when a bolt is expected and a load of other things. If it does get in the way and knocks the nets....then teach it not to.
