  4. All these replies, never had so much attention after a day of running my mutts....its great....lol At least there are plenty on here that realise what we were actually doing....its called enjoying yourselves. Crazy, mad, too many dogs, too many humans, not a great bag and definitly not the best way to catch bunnies....cant wait to do it again
  5. It appears some folk never have......???????
  6. I see your in ireland....so not the warmest place in the world...lol. Would the jacket on a whippet cope with that weather, another good reason why folk have put the bedlington over whippets. Aslo what type of ground will you run the dog on. I've spent a lot of time over the water and a whippet sized would be pretty handy.
  7. depends what you want it for. I've seen whippets with less prey drive than a lurcher that is stood next to it, but i've also seen the other way round as well. Breeding, lineage and how a dog is brought on is a massive part on how a dog (either whippet or lurcher) turns outs and becoming a capable hunting dog. This running dog game is a lottery.....some do it, some don't!!! even if in the same litter, never mind the breeding.
  8. Moll, forget trying to explain he isn't getting it. It was a great day out (yeah i'm the dick folowing the little staffy/whippet into walls), fantastic in fact. For all the negitive ones who decided to cooment, yeah i agree there were far, far too many dogs if i was on for a serious day going for numbers. It wasn't a day to be all quiet, focused and honing the dogs ferreting skills. We had a walk around some fields with some mates and their dogs. Some got up and caught, most were found by the staffy cross and then taken from the walls. So some of you need stop moaning away and get out with you
  9. always insure ya lurcher as a crossbreed, never a lurcher. makes it cheaper and you aint lying either
  10. no mate never any problem. never once has she ran off, if you want you could have her for a few months and try her out. no doubt she is better than the shit you keep.
  11. it really depends on what kind of night i'm expecting to do. if i wanna be out for a while, then i feed wholemeal food...ie bread, rice, porridge in the morning. always give 8 hours plus before running on the lamp. then when i get back, the body will crave protein so feed what the'ye caught. they love it!!! then i feed myself what i crave...love a beer when i get in.
  12. your right about waiting. take her out the field, go back to basics and find out what she is really into(what makes her tick). is it praise or is it food...whatever it takes. throw something that she likes to carry, then start with small throws. you ideally need to be in a place that she is contrained...an alley for example, so she has no way of going anywhere else but except back to you. then she has to come back to you...then this is where the thing that makes her tick comes in....and plenty of it. she is after all...just a pup. before getting her out on the lamp again, make sure she is read
  13. if theres been a bit of rain and that'll loosen the grass. however when you mention the flint on top...then no way. your just asking for a trip to the vets. and i dont just mean a cut or 2....if its bone dry then you could be looking at snapped tendons etc etc.
  14. Just doing the honourable thing by saying hello to all on this site, some may know me from other sites. I have two collie/whippet/greyhounds and a 1st cross collie/grey. I'm into most stuff but mainly lamping and ferreting. Also have a patterdale but he's on loan before one of my lurchers kill him. i will upload some pics when it lets me
