    i've been out with the dog pup on the bottom pic....the feckin thing is like a horse. Big, powerful, atheletic beast....but with a pup's head on his shoulders. He is going to be some dog if all goes well. Hopefully i get the chance to see him do the business in the forthcoming season. The only problem i have with him....Xena shits herself when he is tearing around in top gear and wanting to play.....lol.

    Couldn't agree more moscow. The ill-educated might just think that the minshaw bred pup is their next new orld beater. The biggest mistake anyone can make with a working lurcher (or any working dog) is that it is entered to the game wrongly, too early, over matched etc etc. Its said so many times, 50% is breeding and the rest is the upbringing and education of the pup.

    There are so many posts about not doing any hunting in summer and me incuded hate doing it. The against opinions are usually, its not ethical to hunt rabbits that are with or carrying young, its usually too hot to run the dogs, the grass is too long and the rabbits are far too easy to catch. As well as, you'll ruin your sport for the winter and its not truly testing your dog. I can imagine i've a good few out...so please feel free to add. But on the "For" side of things....what if your farmer/land owner wants them clearing, you could lose your permission. Also it could be for bringing

    not one of them in kindle all 3/4 grown and no milky does you haven't got to explain yourself mate. If you wanna take rabbits at this time of year, then thats up to you. Just less to have around in winter when the dog should be run & tested properly. But i also agree with LI, there are better ways to get the dog fit.

    f**k ferreting without dogs...i know you have no choice, but i'd hate it. I do my hunting of any type, to watch the dogs work and they give you so much in the field. Thank feck i dont have that problem

    As always, getting a decent pup from any litter is a lottery. Some well bred litters produce good and bad, and sometimes you get poor sire & dam coming together to produce some real crackers. But putting a good bitch & sire together gives you a better chance of getting a good litter. There are some excellent whippets out there and some equally matched terriers, and depending what your ground, quarry and entering is like, then any plummer, patterdale, borders etc etc will and could bring something to your hunting pack table.
