  1. MY advice is never let any duck weed get in your pond. plenty of shallows as that is where the warm water will hatch the newt eggs. If your down my neck of the woods one spring i can sort you some nexts out. they like broadish leaves for layign eggs on and when they come out of water to hibernate they need logpiles, rockpiles, anywhere really to overwinter.....
  2. I would hazard a guess that Andy has millions of acres/.....just like me

    White rabbits

Many years ago my uncle used to work in a quarry and he released a few large rabbits. These bred and constantly would throw up black rabbits regularlly. Even 15 years after they had been released i used to shoot black ones. There was a white one too, but i never got a shot oportunity, all the local lads used to try for it and i know a lad that clipped it and it escaped into the bramble. This quarry was pretty much isoslated and i guess had its own little gene pool, so thats why the colours kept cropping up, and another interesting thing was that a high % of rabbits had white dots in the middl
  4. i have had 8 in one season on two seperate occasions from an earth. On both occasions the earths were small little things. I have earths where i can pretty much guarentee a fox every febuary...without fail, and these places still hold during the season as well. Some earth will be occupied and successfully worked every month for a season and then never hold anything again.... We used to work one earth under a farm track, the farmer wanted them gone and so we worked this earth every three weeks. It was hard digging but very productive. I have had some great success from drains too, once having

  8. I will do a few more videos if there is a way of stopping others copying them and putting them on other sites...
  9. Does anyone know what this is really about?. A tree by a river , a hole in the ground, where an old man of arran goes around and around? or is it just that its rhymes...????
  10. Topcliffe weir is hammered. Best to night fish it about 100 yards below weir. Meat. You will need a heavy lead to hold the bottom there. Personally i would go to asenby a few miles downstream of toppcliffe and walk upstream from the island approx 1/2 mile. Leger meat or corn under willows on inside bank..Heavy line needed though

  15. Does anyone else remember that time-less classic "old dan tucker"? Old dan tuckers a fine old man, he washes his face in a frying pan, combs his hair with a wagon wheel, old dan tucker nerves of steel......or something like that..... And that other...."brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favourite things?" "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"...now that was a real tune
  16. School, the best days of your life...but assembly singing and "music" lessons were much hated. My mate Rory had the amazing ability to fart seemingly on demand, loud ones too and the rear half of the assembly would be a mass of giggles as he continued to botty-belch non-stop.....BUT, what songs did you guys have to sing?...all creatures great and small? "My favourite things"???? Eidelweiss" (sp)... does anyone remember "Old dan tucker"?....
  17. The first barbel were trundled, the rest were on leger...static....If you find a nice swim and with a pair of poloroids can see the coral pink , shark-like fins of a barbel then i woudl tip about a bucket full of hemp/corn into a fastish swim, right on the edge of the weed. What will happen is often amazing for the barbel will clear everything off the bottom and that also included weed and algae...everything really......they cant even digest hemp so god only knows why they eat it! I would do that one night and the next fish over the top of it, at the BOTTOM of the baited area for i am of the o
  18. get used to men talking behind your back theres a lot of jealousy in terrier world. just ignore it, as long as your happy at with the dogs you have out your yard thats all that matters, fcuk the begrudgers. some lads out there are only to happy to see someones terrier cur they're the lads to stay away from, only go out with lads who are happy to see terriers do well and who'll give a terrier credit if it deserves it. You are absolutely spot on there mate. Great post!
  19. Hi mate, i love barbel fishingand hope to do more this year. It was 1995 when we first discovered a relatively unfished stretch of river. My cousing caught a june barbel by bouncing a huge lump of meat down some fast spawning riffles. It was a 7lber if i remember correctly. Up until that year i was very unlucky having lost many fish, but that year was great for me and i landed 58 from that one stretch in the space of a few months. I used to fish a pair of diawa porky pigs @13ft. Good stiff barbel rods and , even today, equal anythign on the market IMHO. These were held upright with a long rest
