  1. :notworthy: Excellent shooting, nice bit of permission to land yourself with, is it all glens and hills? am yet to shoot a fox with my new .222 but who knows sunday may be the night.
  2. I hope to be there, i have always been intrigued by the people who come back with bargains and who say that there is a great atmosphere, what would you say is the minimum number of days to cover it, two?
  3. not easy on your first grant unless you can show, either you are likely to shoot on many many different pieces of ground or that you have sufficient knowledge of firearms to be able to judge whether a shot on different bits of land is safe, e.g. a shot on a flat fen may be more risky than a hilly valley in mid wales. it may also help if you worked for a pest controlller already. besides, when you have your FAC if its restricted then it can usually be converted to open after 6-9 months anyway. it may be a good idea to speak to BASC just for advice on the matter. also if i were you i would a
  4. I have never been to "the game fair" but i am seriously thinking of it this year. I suppose quite a few of you will be going, just wandering how many. cheers ss06
  5. After much negative feedback about my local force, South Wales Police, i found them to be excellent with my FAC application. they came to see me within three weeks and i had the cert 2.5 weeks later. they are always fairly helpful, and they even gave me no restrcitions on my 17hmr. As long as you have the land/club then you will be fine, as long as you have not committed any post office jobs recently. what are you thinking of getting? a .22 R/F and a centrefire of some kind? regards ss06
  6. the Xtrema 2 retails at around £1400-£1500, according to the importers, though you may be able to haggle a bit with the gundealer. what 452 is it a .22 or .17, anyway something like a SAK or ASE ultra. cheers ss06
  7. to be honest Mr L im gonna look a bit stupid my self, the pics i have are far too big for the attachment size limit on here. anyone help in getting the original on here? i have the original large ones but the ones i posted are edited. if i cant then i will email you the originals Mr L. the cz is a great rifle, zeroing yesterday i spun one just outside the one inch mark, but the other 5 i fired were all well within, it seems the .222 just wants to be accurate. regards ss06
  8. i have just had my long awaited .222. it is a 527 American with an AGS 3-9x50 scope and a t8 mod(i think). i couldnt let it sit there a not fire it, so i dragged my mentor out for a zeroing session. Here are some pics
  9. the gordon recoil system is used by Gamebore and Remington. on most gamebore cartridges they will have a blue disc set in the base of the brass around the primer, when the cartridge is fired the disc expands and somehow takes out a bit of recoil. i can recommend you some low recoil but excellent 28g loads, but these are only my favoured shell and others may say different, i find that Victory 480 Trap in Plastic Wad are excellent for low recoil but the pattern is superb, this is what i use to pattern all of my guns with, in a 3/4 choke they still put 98% if the pellets in a 30" circle. they g
  10. thanks for all the replies, i hope it wont be too long before i can get the condition removed. its a pain having that condition but hey ive got the piece of paper that counts. i will just get out as often as possible with the centrefire and practice a fair bit with the .17
  11. right here goes. 5.The 17hmr rifle and 17hmr moderator and the ammunition shalll be used for shooting vermin and for zeroing on ranges or land deemed suitable to the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has the lawful authority to shoot. 6.the .222 rifle and .222 moderator and the ammunition shall be used for shooting fox and other medium sized quarry and for zeroing on ranges or land deemed suitable to the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has the lawful authority to shoot. 7.
  12. very well done lads, soon saw the frogs off. when they blew the final whistle all i could hear everywhere was screams of joy. Ardderchog! ss06
  13. My licensing dept has finally succumbed to grant me my FAC. Anyway, on a first grant are the pieces of land which you list on the application form normally listed on the certificate itself. this has not happened on mine. Also, i put the rimfire down for only one of the three pieces of land i listed on the application form, but seen as the other pieces of land have been accepted can i use the rimfire on the other bits of land aswell. i.e is the land specific to the calibre. any help would be appreciated. thanks ss06
  14. when i applied about 6 weeks back(hopefully will have it this week), i put down for my 17hmr vermin control, which is all you need to say, and i originally put down 1000 rounds to buy and 1500 to keep, but when i rang my feo he asked why so few and now i have 1500 to buy and 2500 to keep. hope this helps. regards, ss06
  15. Cartridge? choke? barrel length? experience? conditions? etc..........60 yards no problem, done plenty! whats the best lengh shorter or longer barrell it depends, really on personal preference. i have barrels ranging from 24", the legal minimum on SGC, to 32" on a clay gun. i tend to use a 26" skeet gun with teague chokes for most live shooting, and my 32" trap gun for clays. the most common barrel length id say is 28" which is a good compromise but it really is down to what your preference is. smokeless powder will burn within 12-18" of barrel so it has no effect on power if you h
  16. looks like a manta ray to me or even a duck going away from you, somehow! ss06
  17. f*****g great story. this one is also true. i was out lamping with my shotgun a little while ago now and i found a load of antis trying to break into one of my release pens and destroy it. quick call on the mobile. police. i told them exactly where i was and how many of them there were and how to approach the wood. also leave their sirens off. cut a long story short, the police surrounded them and they all tried to scarper, one even tried to get past me but thought twice when he saw the gun, unloaded by this time of course, but he didnt know that. all four of em in a police cell, fckin
  18. from what i can remember they used to have them at litts treetops SG for teaching people where there shot was going compared to where they were aiming. thats all i can remember, i think a friend of mine has one in his collection ill see i he knows. ss06
  19. what a load of irresponsible, illinformed terrorists this lot are. they get my blood boiling. not claiming to be a huntsman, but as a fieldsportsman they show no respect for other people or their interests. and as for animal lovers, they care as much about animals as Pol Pot does cambodians. they just enjoy harrassing people :censored: :censored:
  20. just wandering i am about to buy a .222 CZ 527 which has fired 12 rounds from new. but the guy i am buying it from is not the sort to go through the processes above, is this likely to have done any lasting damage? thanks ss06
  21. i had my first SGC when i was 15, my father also had one but it mattered little apart from buying guns and ammo. you can have a shotgun on you cert from 15 and use it on your own as well as transport it. it would be handy if your father or someone over 17 you know very well has a cert as they could buy ammo and buy a gun for you then transfer it to your cert. as long as you meet certain criteria they must issue you a cert. these are generally 1.you have safe storage 2.you are trustworthy to have a cert 3
  22. Has anyone ever tried a bread poultis? very simple, put a bit of bread in very hot salted water and let it soak in. get a bandage ready and secure the bread over the hole and secure with bandage, this hurts like hell but works., keep it there for as long as possible and it normally comes out first time. must be the yeast in the bread i spose and the salt keeps things anti ceptic. ss06
  23. Happy St Davids Day one and all especially fellow Welshmen. The sooner this day becomes a holiday the better, and so it should always have been. Diolch Yn Fawr Nos Da ss06
  24. will have some firewood to chop up in the morining. i think theres more smoke being pushed down the chimney than going out the top. was watching woodcock roding at dusk earlier and was fantastic to see them displaying in the wind. ss06
