  1. My old man had the same trouble with his passat 1.9 tdi. it just wouldnt pull in the end, turned out the turbo had gone and subsequently ruined the engine. nos and diesel, make an interesting bang im sure ss06
  2. i have been in that position , ive been climbing over turnstyles to have em blown away at my feet by high powered rifles by a keeper using nv and no it's not nice ( but i done what i thought was right at the time and would probably do the same again) them guys who killed the fox could quite easily go to the police and report you for taking a shot at them and state they where just driving by or stopped for a bit of man lovin lol . you had a lamp but decided to take a shot and it could of got you ( the innocent one) in the shit. how far from the road was you then if the fox was 200 yrds in
  3. Dindt think to be honest John, it has never happened before and id never heard of it happening so it was a complete shock. It was naievity that stopped me lamping them as i wandered what they were up to. Between them stopping the truck and lamping the field and firing at the fox was around 10-15 secs, not very long at all. They must have been ready to fire almost instantly, following the lamp in the scope and as soon as it stopped on the fox, bang. Some of you seem to be condeming my actions, i feel they were justified in that they buggered off fast and i didnt get shot.
  4. mmm well if you had a lamp why didnt you flash that instead of taking a shot ? permission or not it could of gone tits up for you if a couple of guys turned around to the law and said they had been shot at ( they dont know if it was in there direction or not) instead of telling the world of how scared you was maybe you should of done the right thing and gone to the police ?? They were breaking more laws than i was.,seen as i havnt broken any. True they wouldnt have known if it was intended for them or not, neither did i know the shot from their vehicle wasnt intended for me and what w
  5. Thats a fair few boar on the land there apollo! Which bit of Wales are you in? Nothing down here in the South. Regards ss06
  6. I dont know how far any of you are from the Sea or coast but when you dig the trenches for the potatoes, dig them an extra foot deep and fill it with seaweed, cover that with soil, then the seed potatoe, then cover with remainder of the soil. This is how i believe Jersey spuds used to be grown, i think they have gone over to nitrates in chemical form now. I have always had beautiful potatoes with this method and the taste is improved no end in my opinion, and last year when everyone around me had blight, my neighbour and i who both use this method had no sign of it. Might be worth trying i
  7. The best crow decoys are dead crows! If you are looking for some bargains have a look in the back of the shooting magazines at the classifieds and see whats there. I am probably gonna get some flack for this info but here goes. I do a lot of crow shooting, meaning 2000 birds a year normally. It depends on where you are shooting and what youre shooting over with crows. There's no doubt in my mind that the crow is more intelligent than the pigeon and is harder to decoy effectively. If youre shooting in standing crops then the best bet is to either sit under the flightline, obviously!, with d
  8. i take it if you had a shotgun that night you also had a lamp or was you using nv with it ?? I did have a lamp with me, my lightforce 170. I hadnt used the lamp in this field yet as it rises in the middle like a small hill, so the best vantage point is on the crest. It was as i was walkin to the crest i saw the landrover, i was waling along a hedgrow at the time, i stopped after around another 25 yards as the vehicle had stopped, from this point to them lamping the field and firing was around 10-15 secs, i still hadnt used the lamp as i wasnt at my vantage point yet so they were unaware
  9. I dont think any of us on here are trying to say we dont want the foxes killed, it is just that these people seem to be driving around huge areas in their landrovers shooting any fox they see on anyones land, they wont have permission on any of it, more than likely, it just speaks of a dangerous situation to be in if youre legitimately shooting on the land. I have no objection to dead foxes, being an under keeper its part of my job, but what i do object to is people taking shots across my ground when i am on it, or not on it for that matter. From the time i saw the car stop, the time between
  10. When i saw the words; THE RSPCA SHOT I jumped for joy until i realised my mistake. :clapper: ss06
  11. They have decided on a pilot cull it seems to see if its effective. I hope it will be fairly easy for farmers to have some badgers taken from their land, a few of the farms which make up my shoot have failed the TB test this year for the first time, and i have seen an increase when im lamping, i wouldnt want to come a across a wounded one, take your bloody arm off! ss06
  12. Same here jamie, except i have a .222, i think now i would have put in for a .22 LR aswell when i applied for my FAC but theres always variations.
  13. I dont think scared is the word Ditch, i saw the headlights but as its a road at night tohught nowt of it, when they stopped all i thought was 'what are they up to' then i saw them lamp the common and then my field and then a shot. i jumped 40ft in the air. im glad i had a shotgun in one way as i could warn them i was there, they were making such a racket afterwards that they wouldnt have heard me shouting. I wouldnt want to do it to anyone else, so they shouldnt to me, some people just do have a blood lust. thanks ss06
  14. I have to agree it is happening here too, about a month ago i went for a walk around at night for a few bunnies with the .410. the part of the shoot i was on borders common land which has a road on it, this road is around 50 yrds from the boundary of my shoot, i saw a pair of headlights coming down the road, thought nothing of it , when it stopped flashed a lamp across the common first then my ground spotted a fox which was around 200 yrds in front of me, which i couldnt see at the time, and someone fired and killed it, i was just scared shitless by now, thinking they will be after the bunni
  15. Good Stuff Knifebar, they are top of my predator list on the shoot along with the squirrel, cant stand either of them. Since 1st May 07 i have; shot 64 Maggies, trapped 13, but so far this year my larsen has remained empty more than likely to be absence of call bird. Get one soon i hope and then the fun starts ss06
  16. Personally, to get an effective rabbit rifle and fox rifle in one is a bit of a challenge. If you were hard pushed then the .17HMR springs to mind for long range rabbits and foxes under 100 yrds. The best bet is to get an effective rabbit rifle such as a .22 R/F and a dedicated centrefire for fox. This will prove to be easier to someone who hasnt done an awful lot of rifle shooting, such as myself, the HMR will drop a fox well if the bullet placement is spot on, this i have found out in the last week when i shot a fox at 75 yrds with the HMR face on and he still managed to crawl 20 yrds, wo
  17. thanks again ss06 for taking the time out to answer my questions, will let you know how i get on... cheers No probs, post some pics on here if you decide to buy it. Good Shooting ss06
  18. It should be ok then, as long as its tight and clean then it should give you a good few years service.
  19. When you say the browning is battered, what is actually wrong? bit of pitting on the barrels, 2 heavy marks on the stock and a few small marks, i dont think the marks would iron out ether. the guns action is still tight, and theres no play, its my mates gun and i know hes had no problems with it, hes just used it well. cheers Is the pitting on the inside or outside of the barrels? If i were you i wouldnt buy a gun that is pitted inside, as once it starts you cant really stop it and the barrels become very sensitive to rust and the pitting will spread, i dont think the older brownings
  20. If i were the feo i would recommend either a .50 BMG or .700 Nitro Express, no chance of wounding much then! Mind you the .585 Nyati looks quite interesting too, just have to see what they give you i spose. ss06 p.s name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>"> name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>" type="a
  21. varies between £10.50 / £ 12.50 depending where i get them Cheers Seen as youre in Gwent then Litts were doing them for £20/100 if youre interested. I'm not in Gwent mate I'm in Pembrokeshire, litts is about a 2 hour drive away. Sorry young, it was meant for keithparry, litts is a fair drive from where i am too, it takes a good hour and a bit, sometimes worth it if im buying a gun but not for a £1 saving on ammo. ss06
  22. there is about 100 687 out there is it a silver pigeonand what grade mate no its not a silver pigeon, the guys says a 687 sporting, i think its about 10 years old, think thats why i cant see it on any internet searches i do, cheers If the gun is ten years old then it is unlikely to be steel proofed as the ban on lead shot was not in force. the only way to tell for sure is to look at the proof marks on the guns barrel, the steel shot proof mark is a Fleur de Lis. this means it will take high performance steel shot, also the proof marks will tell you what chamber length the gun is, i
