Welsh National Anthem at the FA Final
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in General Talk
Da Iawn, jolong, Saethu yn Seisnig. All English spoken here isit nelson, Ardderchog! Cymru Am Byth, Gwlad, Gwlad, Pleidiol wyf im Gwlad Regards ss06 -
I have a CZ Varmint with a heavy 16" barrel. It shoots sweet and with no discernable difference in performance, the crows arent complaining anyway. The heavy short barrel makes it handy and steady in my opinion especially with a high mag scope, also the short barrel is an advantage when using a sound moderator as the barrel is still only just over 20" long. I have just ordered a Brooks trigger kit for it, the trigger is the only let down with the gun and all CZ's in general. It seems to like Winchester Supreme V-max's. Regards ss06

Would buying a fox call be an unconstructive answer? Something like a WAM, most effective ive found, i have four now and it seems to attract them the most. Saves your mouth getting dry anyway. Regards ss06

There are 7000 grains to the pound. So a 40gr bullets weighs only 2.6grams. For the .223, you will need to find out which ammo your rifle likes and that which it is most accurate with. Just as a starting point, Some have been using Hornady 40gr V-max on hoodies over in Ireland and there aint much left by all accounts. In a .223, depending on the twist rate of the barrel, then it should stabilise upto a 60gr bullet if it is pushed fast enough, but by far the most common in a .223 is 50/55 grain.

Welsh National Anthem at the FA Final

I would also love to see the cup in Wales, keep it away from the English as long as possible, seen as its the FA and only English teams are meant to be in it apparently and certainly only allowed to win it. Keep it on the right side of the Severn for a while. Cheers ss06 -
Welsh National Anthem at the FA Final

Why are we in it in the first place if the English are so against it, people keep saying its the FA not anything else so why dont you keep it to yourselves if its so important its an all English competition. Next youll be telling us your better than us at Rugby, ooops! ss06 -
Out after the bunnies...
SportingShooter replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sounds like a nice mooch around, I went to my new permission tonight and sat in a tree for couple of hours calling for a fox and saw nothing but rabbits, I was using the WAM fox call but it works better on rabbits. Hey Ho! Always next time. ss06 -
Mine havnt gone in yet! I do have a greenhouse and use it for tomatoes but i also grow outside tomatoes, i have specifically outdoor tomato plants which are disease and frost resistant, they are in grow bags which i feed once a week to start and every two days when producing fruit. ss06

Welsh National Anthem at the FA Final
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in General Talk
What would happen if Scotland or Ireland were there then? No anthems for them either, whats wrong with two anthems, is it because England doesnt have its own anthem? What about Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem for an English Anthem? ss06 -
Out last night.
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks Guys, it was a blinder of a night, its the first time ive shot more than three in a night. I took some of my longer shots last night and was pleased with the new type of ammo, that dead sheep was a bonus and i have a new permission today thanks to last night, a farmer who is a friend of one of the farms i shot over last night phoned to ask if we'd have look over his farm tonight , big place to around 450 acres, as he lost two lambs, so off over there tonight, never stops. More ammo soon as i only bought 20 to see if the rifle like them and i only have seven left. Sorry JohnG, cant he -
I went out with the .222 last night with my mentor who had his .22 LR, we had been baiting at various points so we were hopeful of seeing at least one, but what a night we were in for. Earlier on in the evening it was raining heavily so we decided we'd go later if it stopped or eased. It finally eased around 10 ish, and so we went for a walk, i was trying some new ammo in the .222, Remington Accutips 50gr, which had grouped well when i checked the zero but i hadnt yet shot anything with them. So on we went to out first likely spot, flashed the lamp a few times and nothing so a disappointin

Remington Accutip 50gr Ballistic Tips, Winchester Supreme Ballistic Tips. Remingtons work very well for me in my CZ 527 .222 and group to under and inch. But its what works in your rifle. Have a look at a selection in your local dealers when you go next time and try a few different ones, i know its a pain buying lots of different ones when you know one will suffice but it has to be done. Regards ss06

This is a question for both Welsh and those across the borders, do you think Land of My Fathers should be played alongside God Save the Queen or should they both opt for a different song such as Men of Harlech and something for Portsmouth. Any ideas welcome. thanks ss06 p.s and just to remind people,

Why isnt the land suitable for FAC, is it in small patches or is it that it hasnt been assessed?

I have a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown Airking on mine. Lovely scope for an air rifle, cost me around £65 and comes with a 3/8" dovetail one piece mount. Try this link; http://www.litts.co.uk/product_detail.php?id=2025 Just my two pennyworth. ss06

Out with my mentor with my .222 after fox. Been baiting various bits of ground and its been going for a few days now, may get lucky. My mentor will bring his .22 just in case we spot a few bunnies about the place. Trying some new ammo in the .222 so will be an experiment too, it grouped will when i checked the zero so, here goes. Good Shooting everyone. ss06

Open FAC Question
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sorry Deker, should have made it clear, he uses it for purely field work, the ground which the rifles is currently passed for is not a great amount and doesnt have a large amount of foxes on it as it has been keepered for years. He has made a note, as mentioned in a previous post, of the amount of times he has been asked to shoot and had to refuse on the grounds of a closed certificate. Sounds quite promising for him and thanks for all the replies. -
Send them back to the middle ages would be the best thing, then they cant keep stealing all the Lead and making the price of shotgun cartridges and Rifle rounds go up all the damn time. Seriously though, i think a boycott would do very little as the chinese will not change their ways, they are communists after all, there was a headline earlier which said "Torch relay to go well", well it will as oppression and force will be used to ensure it goes well, and the media wont be there to see the bad bits. The chinese need taking down a peg and be told they need to give the Tibetans Human Rights o

Open FAC Question
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks Mr L I think it will be ok, he has shot around 400 rounds with the centrefire and around a 1000 with the .17HMR without any problems, so i think 1400 safe shots should be in his credit. -
This question is on behalf of a friend, He has had an FAC for nearly three years and has a .22-250 along with his .17HMR. He wants to chop in the .22-250 for a .243, i dont think the .243 will be a problem but do you think he would be granted an Open cert if he asked for it at this stage or would he have to wait the full five years. I know that all police forces differ but any general comments, advice or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks ss06

now they're really taking the biscuit....
SportingShooter replied to craftycarper's topic in General Talk
The bread thing was only an example, but i just remember hearing or reading somewhere the VAT in US was 6%, a lot less than over here, I can remember going shopping in the US and the price on the shelf didnt include VAT and they added it on at the till. -

SportingShooter replied to craftycarper's topic in General Talk
Apparently they are all different in our beloved chancellors eyes. Yes its a tax, Value added tax(VAT) VAT is added to almost all consumer goods at 17.5%, this is what it is on top of retail price e.g a loaf of bread say £10 retail would be £11.75. So if the loaf of bread were exempt then it would remain at £10 as Value Added Tax doesnt apply. I thought the VAT rate in America was around 6%, maybe wrong. -

SportingShooter replied to craftycarper's topic in General Talk
If it were classed as a biscuit then it would command VAT of 17.5%. If it were a cake then it would not command VAT as they are expempt, so the people who have bought the product for however long it was have been paying VAT when its not necessary apparently. -
The killing of birds id permitted through the general license as you know. the killing of mammals such as rats and rabbits is enshrined in law as being pest species which maybe killed at any time. ss06

There has been talk of one living in a wood about 2 km from where i live, it has been seen by two friends of mine and pad prints have been found and photographed, it was described to me as the size of a Labrador, long tail, and big head, but not like a panther more like a lynx from what i was told, this was from a distance of just over 100 yards. I lamp the fields surrounding the wood regularly and have never seen it or anything like it, I would probably shoot it if i did. ss06
