I have been speaking to quite a few hunters recently, both Dog and Gun and they all seem to prefer to holiday in the UK rather than go abroad. And If they do go abroad, they are itching to get back. I was like it last week in France, couldn't wait to get back home and out with the gun. Anybody the same? Regards SS

You should all be extremely proud of them and that they are following in your footsteps. Makes me want Kids Regards SS

Was just about to say that Mr L. I asked BASC the same thing twice to two different people and got two different answers, one yes, one no. So, I took the yes vote as it was within the Firearms:Guidance to the Police handbook which is issued to all FEO's It seems no one knows the absolute correct answer. Bloody Firearms Law Regards SS

You don't need to specify land or permission for a Shotgun, Will, all you need is a reason to tell your Enquiry Officer, a good reason for you would be either Rough Shooting or Vermin Control, same for your father. You will each need to apply for separate licenses in your own names. This means that your father can buy a gun for you to use, but until you are 15 then you will need someone with you, over 21 to shoot it. It is always better if this person has a license too. So, in effect, If both you and your father have a license, then you can use your fathers gun in his company or in

SportingShooter replied to sounder's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well Done Sounds, I agree, that part of the morning is the best time to be out on your own with nothing else to bother you. And to get the fox was the icing on the cake. All that Sea air clears the mind too, some of my permission is close to the Marsh and you cant beat it. Regards SS P.S, You are getting my bug for writing these long posts!! -
Range was always drilled into me from a young age by the Head Keeper, who I used to follow around when I was younger. He would let me take a shot with his .22 LR and ask me how far I thought it was, then he would pace it out and tell me the actual distance. So in my mind, if a distance looks like 40 yards on a particular piece of ground I know it is slightly more or less. All because of this process. But I can normally do long distance to within 10-20 yards and short within about 5-10. Its just an accumulation of experience. Regards SS

Where in Swansea is it being held? Not that rickety old track in Fforrestfach? Looks like one strong breath of wind and it will fall over. Regards SS

Alcohol has never affected me in a negative way. When I'm properly drunk I open up and apparently turn into a good laugh when out with friends. I just enjoy myself and have never been told that I have been aggressive or spoilt anyone else's night out. My alcohol tolerance with things such as Jack Daniels is high but Beer or Vodka, and I'm gone after three of four of either. I cant remember most of my experiences, but I remember being the most sozzled I have ever been along with a friend who had drunk the same amount and was in the same state. I woke up at 8:30am after bed at 5

Yes Ditch, Im Back, I have seen my post in General Talk, those Aliens are ba****ds too you know! I once asked my HeadKeeper about Gray crows and the only thing he said was, "I'm glad I haven't got Bu***rs here!" I was wondering why until I came on here having never seen one. As I said that little .17 is a fine weapon and does me for small vermin out to just about 200. But, there is nothing more satisfying or nothing more deceased than a Magpie or similar splattered with a Ballistic Tip from the centrefire. I have a few Magpies here which have got my number, I may have shot

Looking good there mate. I have a 16" CZ in .17 HMR, fine guns and as accurate as you need for anything. Now all you have to do is shoot it, what a shame Regards SS

£150 seems to be the norm for a half decent shell now. The price of Lead has frozen but fuel and such is the new excuse. My favourite shells are now costing me £186/1000 when I buy 10,000 or more. Shame but such is life. Regards SS

At 13 you can hold a Shotgun Certificate but you cannot buy guns or ammunition until you are 17. You can have a gun given to you at 15 and be unsupervised to use it at 15. It would be useful if you and your father applied so that he can supply you with a gun and ammunition. So, there is nothing to stop you applying but until you are 17 you have some restrictions. For a first grant it is £50 per Cert. You will need to fill in the forms honestly and provide 4 photographs for the police to use. You will also need security, normally in the form of a gun cabinet. Regard

Its always a good sign when young prospective shooters take such a keen interest in the outdoors. He is learning young and fast so he will be pestering you at every opportunity hopefully. Excellent shooting there and well done to you both. Roll on the next outing. Regards SS -
