Just to get this off my chest
SportingShooter replied to whippeter94's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
OK here goes, once and for all. At your age you can have an SGC with no problems as long as you satisfy the criteria they are looking for, namely; You fill in the application form honestly and fully. You send them a cheque for £50. You get someone of standing who has known you personally for at least two years to sign your application form and sign one of the photographs. If all goes well, you will have a visit from your FEO within a short while, I take it you are going to put your fathers address down? So that you can share your stepmothers security arrangements. Chick Flick? Feck me. Half of the audience was male One of the funniest films I've seen in a very long time and I just happen to like ABBA and been to see quite a few musicals. Biggest laugh of all was Pierce Brosnan trying to sing. You all refusing to go because you are men like me then? Or was Debbie Does Dallas/Darlington happened to be on Channel 4? Regards SS

RBSS has been taken over by Ray Ward Gunsmiths. And, yes, the Litt's name is set to continue. It will be something like Litts within Sportsman or similar. The shooting ground has been bought by them too and is open for business now with Andrew the old manager carrying on there. The shop in Newport should be opening up in about a fortnight. The shop may move from there if the lease is up, however. As for finances, the figure is somewhere in the mind bogglingly staggering region of £52m. Regards SS

You are technically correct in that only a dealer may do it whilst the gun is on a SGC. But I would argue that If a FAC is held with a slot for either a shorter than 24" Barreled shotgun or a pistol with a Barrel less than 12" then there is no offence committed. But there may be other technicalities. But seen as the FAC in question has a slot for a .410 pistol then he is breaking no law by possessing one as long as he informs them within 7 days as usual as he already has the authority. The only issue I can see is whether the Licensing Dept will let him transfer it from one to the other.

There are many different Sections concerning Firearms and they each concern a different Section of the Firearms Act(s). A S.1 Firearm is one with a rifled barrel and needs to be held on an FAC. A S.2 Firearm is one with a Smoothbore and has a barrel not less than 24" and is held on an SGC as long as it has no capacity for more than 3 shots, any more and it needs to go on an FAC as S.1. Those are the two main definitions you need to be concerned about. A S.3 is an Air Weapon which has a power of 12ft/lbs or less and is not a revolver. A S.5 Firearm is one which is subject to ge

Did you enjoy it more than going out?

Has anyone been to see it and what do you think? I went to see it and have seen the stage show, I thought it was excellent. Thought Pierce Brosnan's voice was a bit "different" shall we say. Regards SS

As said above, there is no need if you intend to keep the gun to yourself but if it is to be sold then you can still sell it to another person in a private sale unproofed, nothing illegal about that, it is only illegal for an RFD to sell you an out of proof gun. For personal safety and consideration to others I would still prefer to have the gun re proofed. It makes sense to be as careful as possible after tampering or altering a gun. Regards SS

Whats wrong with keeping busy, nothing like it in my book, obviously a rest is a rest but could you take 6 weeks of doing absolutely nothing but sleeping, and eating? Sounds pretty boring to me. And as for men being the same, I am not the same Regards SS P.S What about all the nagging we put up with then? We complain too but when was the last time a woman took any notice whatsoever

Come to think of it, I must have forgotten to look at anything other than Shotguns and Rifles as the CLA No thought of Mods or anything else really, was too entranced by the 4 Bore I was very tempted to buy Regards SS

Personally, I have buy 300 hold 500 for my .222 As for a Mod and Scope. An old favourite now is the T8 Reflex from Jackson rifles. But there are others out there such as the Predator8 and Wildcat8. All worth having a look at. They will probably be around £2-300 depending on where you shop. A scope? As much as you want to spend on one. If the budget really is no object then I will certainly recommend my personal scope, the Swarovski Z6i 2-12x50. But that is a bit excessive money wise although the clarity I really cannot fault. All the following are decent for a cent

Hope you have a good Day Pal, Enjoy yourself (but not tooooo much ) You have a great day for it anyway. Regards SS

There are a few basic definitions which need to be looked at here. A shotgun on an SGC must not go below 24" as said before. A rifle may be no less than 12". A pistol is classed as anything below 12" A pistol is only allowed in the UK under the current law for the humane despatch of animals and as slaughter equipment. And as Leveller and Ditch have pointed out the relevant paper work is already there. Check with your firearms department Levs, ring them and ask them if You can buy a normal shotgun as defined and then go about cutting the barrels to below 12" yourself. I

In my opinion, I think he will not get as far as the White House, he will appear to gather a lot of support but the voters will change their minds in the Polling booth and go for John McCain, he is altogether, safer for them. As for Obama himself, He is young and enthusiastic and has managed to beat off one of the most admired Democrats, Mrs Clinton, from seemingly nowhere. But, and its a big but, the Americans, and in particular in the Southern States to this DAY, have a problem with Blacks. This is no racist comment but the harsh reality. How often do you see the Black vote

He was teleported Tess. Get with the times!!! Telephone, Huh!

Well done, the fewer the better of them, they are top of my list too. Is the gun firing Shot or Slug? Judging from the pictures, its shot. I would imagine it would be difficult to take a flying shot with a scope on it. Regards SS

Shotgun Certificate Application
SportingShooter replied to Bagpuss's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
As everyone can see from this post it varies enormously. You will need to find out from your department what their back log is and how long they are taking on average. Some will be a month, others many many months. Give them a ring, they are normally quite good. Regards SS -

Its fine, it is just a reference to what Acts the document relates. It is on all application forms. And yes, fill it in and follow the guidelines on the form, make sure it is accompanied by four photographs and a check for £50. Post it to the address I gave you in my post in your other topic. Regards SS -
Ceredigion? You need to either phone Dyfed-Powys Police and ask them to send you a pack of forms. They are so slow with Certificates at the moment that I don't fancy your chances. I would try here Then print it off, fill it in, get four Passport sized photographs and follow the guidelines on the form. Send it to. Firearms Licensing Department, Dyfed-Powys Police HQ PO Box 99 Llangunnor Carmarthen SA312PF Tel No. 01267 226487 ....And hope for the best. Regards SS

My standard of History is an A, A level and A* GCSE. But my standard of politics is the same as well so they combine to make a fairly well informed judgments on a lot of things to do with them both. But I just keep myself up to date and read like its going out of fashion on both subjects. Regards

Most Factory barrels, if not all, which are screw cut come with a thread protector. If it is cut by a 'smith then he will more than likely have one for the size of thread you have. Regards SS
