Yes, but what I couldnt understand was the statement in your last post. ""The B of R 1689 influenced the 1755 reforms."" Regards

Correct, but im not sure what your point is. This country and the constitution is based on Convention, meaning that the whatever has been done in the past is what we carry on doing, hence the term a break with Convention. It has been convention for the past ??? years not to accept the Bill of Rights or many of the older pieces of legislation such as Habeas Corpus and the the Works of Authority(which are also a part of the constitution) as evidence or that citizens be bound by them. The reason for this is yet another Convention, and it is that the legislation which is passed after o

Enough of this Bill of Rights misapprehension. The B of R was written in 1689 and has since and for many hundreds of years been outdated and its clauses not recognised. The more recent curtails to this Act, come in the form of the Firearm(s) Acts from Circa 1920 onwards. There is no legal right in this country to bear arms. The only way it could be was if we had an entrenched constitution(which we don't) and a written constitution(which we also don't). This would be the same as the Second Amendment in the USA, and seen as the US constitution is so hard to change, 17 changes since

How do I balance a CZ?
SportingShooter replied to Effortless's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I always keep the Bi-Pod on the rifle when out and it does upset the balance when folded. Heres a tip. Try having the Bi-Pod extended on the shortest setting, it can help to spread the weight out. Regards SS -
after the weekend of shooting clays
SportingShooter replied to sounder's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Those look like two very serious and dedicated shooters. Excellent shooting Pal, congratulations. The lad could well be there himself in a few years time competing against his father. It looks like you all had a fine few days out and the scores prove it was a very successful weekend. Congrats to Co. Clare and Sounder. Regards SS -
Fox identification at night
SportingShooter replied to rainger's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Or a better scope which allows you to draw in all the available light. Its not always the lamp, its the distance and your ability to recognise quarry. Its not easy with a red filter for example, but easy enough through a decent scope. Regards SS -
Your FEO will not recommend that for shotgun. Firearms he may insist on supervision but shotgun no chance and even if he says so he can justify the opposite extremely well, to be honest the supervision on shotgun certificates is unheard of. After 15, you can have a shotgun on your license and use it on your own. After 17 you can buy guns and ammunition. It really is no more complicated than that. As I say supervision for Shotguns is unheard of and should be resisted if there is the slightest hint. Regards SS

Fox identification at night
SportingShooter replied to rainger's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I couldn't agree more with Mr Logic and Ditch, However much you want to kill that fox(supposed Fox), you DO NOT fire until you can see the eyes, ears and head through that scope or Binoculars. If you stare at a pair of orange for a minute or and hour, if you cannot see what it is, put the safety back on and walk away, you may well get another shot later on but you cannot go back on shooting a Non target animal. Regards SS Mr L, you forgot to say what colour the husbands eyes were. -
Mine not good enough for ya All I would add, is go for it, nothing to stop you when you are 15, the more with SGC's the better. Good Luck SS

Even on my Shoot, where Rabbits number in 10's, there seems to be an awful lot, for the first time on the entire place while out lamping, I counted more than 50 in one night. Never been seen here since the 70's. I hope they come back to huge numbers. Regards SS

lamping with a shotgun??
SportingShooter replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There is nothing to stop you as long as you are not causing a nuisance or closer than 50ft to the middle of a highway or byway, e.g. Road or footpath. Lightforce and Deben make under-barrel mounted lamps. Regards SS -
Yes, you are perfectly correct in what you are saying. You can, once 15, have a shotgun "given" to you and so put on your License at 15. You still cannot buy Cartridges until 17 so yes, they will need to be given to you. This entitles you to use it unsupervised on a clay ground or where you have permission. However, you must have the gun signed over to you. Either in the form of a shared gun, which is possible and means that the gun is entered on both licenses, or that the gun is solely yours. So, perhaps in your case, as it is your Step Mothers gun, then you could have it as

I too cannot see it being the Brass being to soft. If they found brass debris in the chamber, perhaps its was the batch of Rounds but any rifle should fire any ammo. What if I were to fire them in mine? Not a Howa, would they have the same problem? I am thinking it could be a slightly underbored chamber and the brass is being filed when it is chambered. Just my thoughts, cant see it being the ammo to be honest, I use Hornady with no such problems. Regards SS

Anyone into Civil Aviation? I have a Question.
SportingShooter replied to SportingShooter's topic in General Talk
I wandered how long it would be before my visit to another planet came up in discussion I was flashing them with S.O.S with my lamp but they steered clear from me. Perhaps my last visit was enough for them for a few months -
I have not long broken into a box of Winchester Supreme .17 HMR V-Max, this is my normal round which my rifle shoots the best of the lot. I fired my first shot tonight, all well and good, 20 mins later I went to fire the second, it was loaded in the chamber from the last shot and I pulled the trigger as normal. I heard a click, and I thought, Misfire, but I opened the bolt and the round had gone off and the barrel was clear, A fired round, missed the target. I rattled the bolt and fired another, no problem, normal, fired another, and it was again silent but had fired. All I'm assu

Out of curiosity, why doesn't the .17 Remington have the same problem? They are both perfectly capable of 4200 fps+. It seems as though this is more bad press for the .204 Regards SS

I was out lamping for a bit tonight and there is an airport not 2 miles away from me, only a small one for civil aviation and pleasure craft etc. What I was wandering was, what colours do Aircraft fly at night? I was watching something in the scope tonight and it was flying a pinky/red colour, not suggesting it was anything untoward, I know it was an aircraft, but not sure what. Any ideas? Regards SS

As Simoman said, It depends entirely on how much you want to spend. Go to your gun shop have a look at what is in your price range and see which ones take your fancy. If you happen to be coming across Beretta's and Browning's then great, if you happen to be coming across Laurona,Lanber,AYA and other Spanish guns then still great they are all strong and well made. Its resting on your budget really. Good Luck. Regards SS
