  1. He's a cracker Tom, Congratulations to the proud parents and to the exceedingly proud Grandfather. A future and fellow sportsman in the making I'm sure. Regards SS
  2. The .204 is not too bad, it is probably on par with the .22-250. About 3000 ish rounds before you notice a difference is accuracy. It is certainly not as bad as the .17 Rem Mag, the .223 WSM or the .220 Swift. Any gun that pushes a bullet at 4000 fps+ is going to wear barrels faster than most. Regards SS
  3. Yes I did, and they can, It is more than enough power to kill a Deer at 100 but you need to hit the target which is difficult at that distance and so yes it would kill a Deer if you hit it. 50 yards is a capable distance, 75 is pushing it. Slugs are almost impossible to get for Live shooting in this country. Regards SS
  4. Not personally Whippeter but I can read and pronounce it no problem, just not converse in it fluently. Im sure there are one or two who can speak it fluently on here. Regards SS
  5. This is turning into a nice little topic for people to let off steam! I think that is why I started it really, get rid of those niggly little things out into the open without the missus/mister telling you to stop moaning. Keep Going, There must be more things than this that annoy people, been thinking of them all the time since. When you know you will drop food over you while having a takeaway and you dont spill anything until the last mouthful. Just as you are about to go out it empties down with rain. Boy racers who take the effort to overtake you at speed and then hav
  6. Have you found a reliable source for ammunition then? I agree on the other points, the BC will beat most .224 bullets and 4000 fps + is just that bit more than the .22-250 and .243. Its just a barrel burner. Ammunition is going to be your stumbling block as it will be few and far between and expensive. Regards SS P.S. I suppose you have looked at the slightly longer Sako 85? Here or The even longer Tikka T3 Varmint? Here. You could always have them shortened when you have the barrel screw cut as they can be re-crowned the same time.
  7. Yeah all the time. Someone comes on the phone and says I was just about to ring you. And its often "I was just going to say that" And in tests, I seem to pr empt some things which come up. I think a lot is to do with the law of averages and that if a particular subject, task or question has not come up for a while you think it will and then are surprised when it does. Regards SS
  8. What sort of things annoy you, small little things in general everyday life? Im talking of clean things and not about politics or anything like that, just things you come across. My top three would be; Market Research Callers, Dog fur, and when the Red light comes on in the car when you are just that little to far from home to make it. Please keep it clean, no Racism or Politics please. Regards SS
  9. If you hit it, you could kill a Deer at 40 yards with one but this is wholly unadvisable, it will lead to wounding ONLY. The maximum distance I would shoot a Deer with AAA would be about 20 yards, this distance would give you enough pellet strikes in the right place, a head shot would always be preferable in this situation. I have done it once myself with AAA and it was 10-15 yards away and dropped dead to a head shot. As close as you can and 20 yards max I would say in every situation. Regards SS
  10. They must either be shot with a slug or AAA shot of not less than 36 grams. They can be shot if they are causing damage and it is not specific to a species. You must satisfy yourself that the Deer you plan to shoot is the one causing the damage, you cannot be indiscriminate. Slugs you need an FAC for but AAA can be bought anywhere on an SGC. Regards SS
  11. Keep a cool head mate, As long as there have been no repeats and your GP says you are in good health, you will be fine. Hang on in there and you should have your SGC soon Regards SS
  12. Happy Birthday Scent, Have a good day mate and dont worry, there isn't much Kay wouldn't do Have one on me Cheers SS
  13. This is another tale of two very efficient adult killing machines and a young apprentice. I have very recently had my first batch of Pheasants delivered to my shoot, they are attracting plenty of wild birds to the pen but also the wily old foxes and their young cubs in training. Time was enough after having left the ground unlamped since just after the birds' arrival, I decided to get my lamping buddy out of his armchair and get either behind the rifle or the lamp. As usual, I had my trusty and proven CZ 527 .222 with me and my buddy had his also trusty and proven Remington Mode
  14. :censored: :censored: Arghhhhhhhhh @ John Galway :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: Just kidding John Regards SS
  15. You must have millions in the Bank to shoot Weidmannsheills!! They will most certainly do the job in hand and good on ya for getting the right equipment first. Hope you have some luck. Regards SS
  16. Nice going there mate, Unlucky for some, I guess thats what you call fate, Regards SS
  17. Thanks for posting the other Rifles you own, Surprising how many there are out there. Keep voting, it seems that CZ and Mr Value Beretta are leading the field. Regards and thanks. SS
  18. Almost any Beretta is worth the extra money to you mate. As long as the barrels are sound and the action and stock are not too rough then it will last you as long as you like. I would try for the Beretta if you can, a good all round choice. Others in the range would be second hand Miroku's and Browning's. Good Luck SS
  19. You will need to do a probation in a Rifle club and become a full member normally before they grant you an FAC and before your secretary will countersign it. For vermin, then you will need a letter of permission to shoot the land and shoot the calibres you want. You can have both on your ticket, either adding one or the other later on if you dont get them sorted in time together. Regards SS
  20. Well done there Martin, he looks a fine specimen even if he was not the youngest. Distance isn't everything, I prefer to shoot to about 150 under normal circumstances but sometimes it is only possible for a long one, a few weeks back with a troublesome fox, after a week long struggle to get him, the 260 yards he was didn't seem to matter, just that I hit him and he keeled over. I enjoyed that read and some great ground you have there, looks almost perfect for Stalking and Lamping. Good Shooting! Regards SS
  21. Personally, I would go and buy a box of BB's and use them instead. No 5 is not a fox cartridge, it will kill it but not each time, every time. At 25 yards BB's will be devastating and through a tightly choked trap gun even more so. A single box isn't going to cost the earth and you will have them there if and when. Sounds like a good plan though and good luck! Regards SS
  22. What have I let myself in for!! I thought you lot over here had some funny ideas. Regards SS
  23. Well done mate, Exciting isn't it, the first time you have a shootable fox in your crosshairs. And then to have two. The .22 is not the ideal weapon as you say but the little gun will certainly do its job when put in the right place, as you say and now know. What set up have you got there? I enjoyed the read very much too, its as if I was sitting behind the rifle about to pull the trigger. Regards SS
