Pure beeds where would you be without them ?
fireman replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A lurcher has and always will be a poor thing to use to catch a hare and a snare is far more effective and quieter for the poaching man and catching other things far out wieghed having a hare killing dog ..The saluki was bred for the sport of coursing and not to kill hares and from them the sport of coursing and the dogs bred for the sport travelled to the rest of the world...That is the history of coursing mate .... -

No coursing dog has ever been bred to kill hares,it's you lads that want them to kill hares that breed them to kill hares. Coursing and killing hares are totaly different sports.. -
I myself wouldn't worry about birds hearing others birds as such as it happens in the wild all the time and every day, what i would try to do is screen from sight the different pairs and even some scaff netting will make a screen of sorts but if that was impossible to do then i'd just let them be in there seperate flights and see what happens..

It's always a game of trying to guess whats right as some years one way works and some years it don't,but that is the "joy" of the hobby as every year is a learning year and i wish you all the very best of luck with your birds mate.. ..

Lets keep this all calm and grown up but there's a few members who have for the last few weeks or months just been trying to provoke the mods or generaly moaning about the site rather than doing anything about improving things, mchull was last night kicking it till it broke and i could see what he was doing from the start of him posting and you all have to be a bit daft to not see it yourselves. I thought Paulus was patient with him and did the right thing to stop another bollocks ridden thread, if folk want to improve things around her then get on with it and improve things with decent thread

I'm sure you just need to have some benefit help on housing rent rather than be fully on the dole, but a very good call anyway Smithie..

The thing with a aviary is you can sort of chuck in a canary hen or two if the cock is a egg pecker and that'll take his randy little mind else where, plus you get the bonus of a mule or two.. Good luck with the coming year and keep us informed with pics eh.. ...
-
It is and it isn't,you can keep a better eye on them in a cage but then they are forced together as such and a rampant cockbird can cause all sorts of bother in a cage. In a aviary there's more for him to do when the hen is sat on eggs and imo a aviary bird will allways be fitter and stronger than a cage kept bird so a better chance of stronger fitter youngsters,,

Good on the little bitch and better to have more than one tool in the box mate . I always stand behind the keepers i go out with so it's all there fault if they miss ,but they haven't yet in the last few years so banter is a bit thin on the ground sometimes....

Like i said bud i used her for all sorts and at the time she was under 2 years old, it also had me "on her" when she was around a rabbit hole and she could have a sniff around one but stick more than a nose in and i was on her and she soon learnt when to and when not to mess with rabbits...I was lucky with that old plummer mate that i know and we both were fortunate i had the time to do lots with her so she never got bored at her tasks.....

I was out with a keeper and some other lads and i was sort of pressured to try my terrier in a rabbity place, i knew it was risky as she was a young dog and had been used as a busher and general all rounder as such.I dug her to a rabbit only shallow but a rabbit all the same, she went on to bolt two foxes and was dug to another one that day. She was young and like i say a general all rounder but she never ever made the same mistake again and wouldn't enter a rabbit burrow again even when worked along side ferrets, glad i didn't give up on her as she turned into the best terrier iv'e ever had an

Rationally?, but your talking of murdering innocent children and all that guilt shit bollocks and that's you getting personal over it, i know a woman who was the result of a rape and she's had a tormented life and openly says she wishes she'd never been born but hasn't killed herself due to the heart ache it would have brought her mother and now the heart ache it would bring to her husband who lives a equally tormented life and all they do is there best to get through each day. She's never had children and the reason is because one day they would have asked where their grandad was,i myself wou

I am mate, ripped out the old floor and have red leaded all cross members etc, then it got cold outside but i will have it all sorted for spring time as although it's a oldish lorry (1984 Bedford TL with a little 220 turbo) it's only got 25,000 on the clock and has been looked after as such....
