  1. In my experience ,I get enough bolts with a digging dog so wonder why anyone would actually want a callout dog .The truth behind these dogs is that they are never 100% committed to the job or you couldnt call them out even if you wanted to .Seen a few in the past and the more they were called out ,the more they wanted out .Im fully aware that certain situations require a certain make up of dog ie undiggable spots dont warrant a long term stayer and that the softer type will sometimes shift a fox by giving ground to it ,but a dog that can be called out -Not my idea of what the games about .What
  2. Personally I cant get my head around anyone making any noise at all .My outings with the dog at night are silent .She knows what shes doing and I know what Im doing .A flat palm shows her where to return to and on we go with no disturbance .You would only get the one run out with me .
  3. No need to look mate ,they are there -waiting .
  4. They look a bit small to be lamb killers Keep trying mate and get your eye in .
  5. Nice one mate .Show us some results as and when .
  6. To shed some light on this subject of using and breeding non proven, unknown stock . Some terriers of unknown breeding WILL work and some work very well but when it comes to the breeding of such a dog then you are taking a risk because the parents are unknown ard undesirable traits can show in the next or subsequent litters .Lines of terriers are not produced for nothing ,they contain the genes which produce a HIGH PERCENTAGE of workers and this is the difference .If you do only a minimum of digging and your standard is low ,you may be happy with producing hit or miss offspring but the lads th
  7. Good result but let that be a lesson to every terrier owner on here ,accidental entering is a very real problem and can land you in deep shit in the wrong place .
  8. Just a point to mention -As I understand it legally ,all traps have to be covered wherever place high or low so bare it in mind please .
  9. One from last summer.Must be the most ,if not one of ,colourfully marked amphibians .Huge variety .
  10. I think frain is on a mission to carry on where plummer left off -After all he was his understudy and thought the world of old bri .
  11. We see buzzards ,red tails and sparrowhawks on thermals at the same time round us and mollys pic is no buzzard.Sparrow hawks fly with short bursts of flapping followed by long soars .The last pic clinched it for me -typical female sparrowhawk gliding .
  12. .. here's the female they are more common and dont half put the shit's up you when they hit you in the back of the head when out walking the dog's.. .. Millet http://www.bioimages.org.uk/HTML/P5/P53606.php Thats what we see a lot on the chalk downs .Never associated it with the one I found .Thanks again .
  13. Its not the amount of excercise you need to worry about as the pup will slow as she tires .Its the type that blows young lurchers out early.Trying to keep up with an adult running dog ,even in play is not good for the pup nor is chasing most forms of quarry that the pup is not ready for .Play it by ear mate -You know better than anyone how she is after excercise and adjust it accordingly .
  14. ..................humping with foxes Sounds right up your street foxhunter .
  15. Saw this beetle whilst out saturday and couldnt identify it .Was going to take it home but it bites so it was left on the log Did a quick search and came up with a possible lesser stag beetle ?
  16. I would go for the female sparrowhawk myself ,with a full crop too .Did it have a kill it was tryinig to get back to ?
  17. Redrock-I would say it depends on the amount of fox work you intend to do .If your happy with the odd fox and regard it as a bonus if the dog works it [and this is no piss take ,just as I see it] then have the plummer but dont expect a long ,regular career from it ,just the occasional one off maybe .As you have lakelands already ,you will be aware of what a terrier will do and how often .Your choice mate .
  18. To me ,and I suspect many others ,there is a very fine line between studying an animal and admiring it to wanting to kill it .Weve probably all kept jackdaws ,magpies ,jays and crows at some time in our lives but who wouldnt take the opportunity to shoot one of them ? .As a youngster I couldnt resist rearing anything found young ,regardless of whether it was orphaned or not .Just to be in the presence of something wild and alive was like a drug .I ve known several people rear cubs ,including badger ,and have come to the conclusion that s how it will stay -other people doing it .Reared a mink o
  19. I can see how windy it was by the hair style mate .Nice do you had there .
  20. R.I.P Sonny ,where ever you are .
  21. As this is a hunting forum and a very good one IMO,PEOPLE SHOULDNT NEED TO JUSTIFY ACTIONS THAT ARE LEGAL.The killing of vixens and cubs BEFORE they cause damage are a recognised means of control around us and no guilt whatsoever is felt .The preservation of foxes by observing a close season is what helped to get the hunting with dogs banned .You cannot call an animal a pest that needs to be controlled one day and then preserve the young another .Year round control is carried out round us and still they survive .Ive no problem with hunting for sport as long as its not called control . You did
