  1. Out first light this morning to have a walk round the usual chicken farm .The organic sheds are now spread between two fields ,divided by a hedge.Walking towards the second field i could see a fox walking along the electric fence line in the distance as this field slopes upwards slightly .I knew a squeak would send it packing so decided to stalk closer. The gate to this field was open and to my surprise ,the lad that lets the birds out mornings was still in the field ,lifting shutters on the last shed .Charlie was making his way down to me along the bottem right hand corner of the electric fen

  3. Personally ,i've seen a great many fox killers to ground and from most recognised breeds too .Dont own one at the minute ,that is to say not a regular killer as in the true sense of the description .Owned a black type once that had it down to a tea ,shut many a farmer up i can tell you .We used him mainly on big bale stacks and undiggable rocky places .I saw him kill twice ,once in an old electric duct on a deserted RAF camp and again in some broken paving slabs .He was' nt particular about his first hold ,offering his shoulder to get under the throat but hes long dead .Once saw a tiny JRT th

  5. Got the invite to have a look around some of Martins ground on Tuesday of last week .This piece of land is in a valley ,well a valley within a valley to be precise .The whole scene was a sea of buttercups and bathed in sunlight .Truly a pleasure to be there .After Martin parked up ,i surveyed the land with the bino's but saw nothing .On Martins recommendation ,we skirted left handed towards a clump of hawthorn where the deer sometimes hang out ,according to my host .As we approached ,i was busy scanning the opposite fields when Martin motioned to me and pointed over the nearside fence and alo

  7. A local lake to me is heaving with the buggers .Any bait fished any depth ,a right pain .What i want to know is -why do they die in a keepnet when caught .A seperate net from the fish that is .Any ideas Murph ?.Oh and a brilliant write up mate .

  11. Decided on a stalk down at a local farm before work yesterday.Met the farmer as he was getting the cows in and he told me of a buck in some mowing grass on the boundary of his place .Cautiously approached the area and sure enough ,there he was with two does ,all three couched against the hedge maybe 350yds away .The only way i could see to get a shot was to crawl through the grass to within a shootable distance .The grass my end the field is long as opposed to where the cattle have been strip grazing the other end ,where the deer where .10 yds into the crawl i was soaked as we had a bit of dr
  12. Hello mate -The shot went clean through and the beast jumped a good 8 ft into the air before running blindly through cover and died in a grass field beyond .Cheers .

  18. Axactly mate .If a lad buys /is given a pup from previously proven lines and the dog/bitch dont make the grade ,then ive known some to breed off it because the blood is right ,hoping to get one next time .Ive known lads to waste years on a breeding because the root stock was good .No,its time to cull when a terrier dont have the work in it .Different when they have several seasons of graft under the belt ,then decide enough is enough, you can judge it by those years and decide whether it was good or not . Most of us cant impress enough on anybody not sure about the game that WORKER TO WORKER I
  19. Not a clue about the camera mate ,not my department .
  20. Yes mate ,they have an alarm too .A very staccato bark repeated in short bursts but unlike any dog you will hear .A stiff legged trot is seen whilst they are barking ,head up and tail like a bog brush .Like most other species i guess but again ,usually in thick cover . Just to add that when a munty buck approaches a doe for the first meet ,he circles her and presents his rear end ,nice if your a munty doe i suppose .
  21. Nice one mate.Keep your head down ,mouth shut and alarm set .Be waiting on the field mornings rather than last there .All the best mate and good luck .
