    Thursday night saw me back at the chicken farm to look for a fox that has been jumping the electric fence and helping itself to a bird or two . Saw a fox at range but it wasnt stopping for a shot ,no way.Decided on an early morning trip to the same place this morning and did better .Glassed the field with the sheds in and saw a fox over the far end ,apparently none the wiser .Worked out a stalk that kept as many sheds between me and it so i arrived about 70 yds off it .The light was just breaking and i had high hopes as the wind was right .Got to the point of ambush only to see charlie had

    This is the truth mate .If ,in speaking to a lad ,he openly said his dog was just a ratter i would avoid the breeding but respect him for telling me the truth .Previously in the thread ,i stuck my neck out and said that a LARGE number of rats will test a dog and i stand by that .Offers have been made to people who slated me since but strangely no-one has said they will bring their little dog along for me to see 'slaying large numbers with ease'.We all know ,or should know what a terriers job is but its not the only test .If any more doubters would like to arrange a day with me in the future th

    Ditch mate-even though rats do come in various hues ,these variations are caused by different concentrations of chicken shit .The black ones having swam the width of the liquid slurry to be snapped up as they surfaced ! A coat of that lot would certainly guarrantee a space on public transport .The dog is fine mate but the owner is down 63 quid for his trouble .

    Muntjac can be called by barking back at them yourself .Ive done it several times ,calling both does and bucks in to be shot .Its my experience that both doe and buck bark to advertise their presence and posible breeding status.Listen in an area where they bark , usally just on dark but anytime in the night ,and you will soon distinguish between bucks and does .Without drawing attention to yourself from passers by ,you need to perfect your own bark as the wrong sound amongst barking muntjac will have them all quiet and gone .Ive had them come nearly to my feet and took several with a lurcher w

    Had a trip out with a couple of members off the forum yesterday ,plus a couple more lads i know .Went to a chicken farm i have the ratting on .The farmer has just cleared 2 organic sheds of the last crops and promised some sport with the pack .We had to wait a while for the lads to pull the first shed to its new ground and leave behind a row of steaming shit which showed signs of a few rats but not the usual mass of holes we have seen .The reason for this was evedent as we stared digging it over .One of the drinkers had been leaking severely and the muck was saturated .Rats dont like this a

    Might just be the angle im looking at it or something but it looks for all the world like a young badger .Certainly not mink which are a distinct spread toe walker on soft stuff .As to the den or holt mate ,if theres no scratching up the trunk or loose sawdust below then its only that ,a hole in a tree .

    Its good to be in the company of a like minded sportsmen and even though i pushed him hard time wise ,FH was up to the job that i know would of had others whinging .5 am to 11.30pm every day is grualling for all but the most dedicated i can tell you .He only missed the one shot ,on the first evening ,which was the closest of the trip but we both agreed it was tiredness from the drive down, combined with poor light .     Ditch -Jst read your account of the hunt mate and i can relate to that ,except it would take me 20 words to explain the same thing .A sobering thought for you mate but its a good job i never came over and found sign of that fox and subsiquently shot it myself .One thing ive learned through life is never say never .Anyway mate ,good youve finally broke that rifle in .

    Is it just me or is anyone else a bit concerned about the fact that its cropped up several times that lads are breeding from substandard bitches .IF i had such a thing in the kennel then it would not get lined and would die a maiden .Why do people knowingly breed from shite .Its beyond me .Better to buy in and risk it than knowing dilute working stock further surely .     Just my opinion and one shared by my digging partner is that to expect anything less from a bitch is to admit that the breeding has gone a bit pear shape .The only difference in our stuff is the weight advantage which adds only a low percentage to the success of a dig .If you are hard on weeding out the small stuff from birth then providing the dog throws decent heads as well as eveything else required in the make up then decent bitches will be produced .The day we expect anything other than a propper result from a bitch will be the end of it all .
