For my part it is linebreeding to proven stock ,stuff that has thrown its fair share of workers with mininum waste and yes ,they are out there .Line breeding is misunderstood by a lot of people and used to promote the sale of too many dogs every year .Line breeding IS NOT the continuous inbreeding of stock as some would have you believe and has been the ruination of many a good line .Inbreeding eventually goes stale .Line breeding requires the introduction of RELATED blood at chosen intervals but thats another topic . All linebreeds benifit from the introduction of unrelated outcross to intr

I for one would wholeheartedly endorse a cull on badgers .Where i live they now outnumber rabbits [not joking].The majority of farmers are at their wits end but our hands are tied .I recently went to see a farm that had roughly 1 1/2 acres of maize flattened by them .The farmer said it was deer but i found evidence to support otherwise .They are no respectors of electric fencing either and have nosed up a mesh fence on another piece of permission to get at the vegetables on a market garden. Many farmers have movement restrictions on them due to tb reacters which is definately linked to the inc

Hi mate .Great to see the looks on peoples faces when they get a first .The stubbles are holding up everything this year including the foxing but it will all come good sooner or later .

Keeping cats etc. out of MK III type crow traps
Squirrel_Basher replied to a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Why not have a purge on the cats before hand mate .You dont have to kill them ,just trap in one of the many feral live catchers and re-locate .Alternatively ,put a smelly baited cage near the crow catcher and kill two birds with one stone ,so to speak . I do know ,as you will know probably ,that some cats get trap bound , that is to say that they will be caught in the same trap ,same bait ,same place, time and time again and you have no chioce but to re-locate to a hole in the ground .Good luck with your trapping and keep us posted . -

Cheers Martin for another good evening .The leg was worse than i thought with 2 gashes under the knee .Good job no-one else was watching eh mate .Thats what threw my shot mind as i should have been in the ambulance by then with a nurse stroking my leg -
Bet you wished you rolled that rug up first mate Dont have a clue who the lad is but he speaks some sense, although the bit about about breeding from a dog thats seen nowt is strange to me as is a dog too valuable to work, not my philosophy , but there you go -this is the internet and everyones judged by the written word and pics .Roll on the season.

Just keep them clean mate .Put nothing on them .The dog will lick to soothe but will ingest anything else you put on .Trust me

You don't appear to be listening mate.Don't use ferrets on rats, you will get them injured and feck them up for rabbiting. You appear to have read too many plummer books and not done much ratting with ferrets .I used to ferret the feckers a lot and personally believe its the best form of dog /ferret combination there is .No ferret has ever been spoilt for rabbitting that i have owned nor have i lost them through bites ,attacks .Drains and concrete claim more lost ferrets than rats ever will .What i have found is that some ferrets will stick to the job for many seasons whilst some do a seas

Went out with a mate off the forum and my son for a look on some ground that i usualy keep until after September due to the vast amount of maize grown here .We threaded our way through the neck high fields to a brow that over looks a deep valley .Had a shine as we walked up the hill and could see a fox in some cover crop but he wouldnt come out when called ,like so many lately it seems .We stalked as close as we dare,to where i could see clearly , and i shot it freehand at a mere 30 yards .Up the hill a bit more and a look over the valley and sure enough 3 more sets of eyes peered back but at

We have mainly hedges around us where the deer have no choice but to sit in tight in a storm .Its not so much whats the best weather for the deer as to whats best to stalk them in and i would have to say its sunny evening /mornings with a soft breeze .

Agreed mate .Hopefully it will be chinese on the menu next time up there .I am a lucky chap indeed .

In my eyes the serious foxer needs as many tools as he can master to keep on top of the fox numbers .Got no problem with any humane method but as Foxy says ,the gun will win everytime .Well done you two and good shooting David .

Squirrel_Basher replied to von's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Id also like to know what im doing in february of this year .Any predictions mate . -
Invited up to Oxford by a good mate of mine who has a fair acreage of stalking over some beautiful scenery .Travelled up the night before to get an early rise .Didnt sleep much in anticipation of the day ahead .Myself,my host and a mate of his travelled to the ground well before first light and parked in a gateway .We waited untill we could see with the bino's and got the kit ready for the off .A group of fallow had been damaging a field of beans on this farm and we were to take one or two out to move them on .The farmer had seen both bucks and does on this field so we didnt yet know what to

pheasant illness
Squirrel_Basher replied to sionw123's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Definately some signs of infection there mate .Kill a healthy bird for a reference mate and check the lower intestine of a few dead birds against the one healthy .Get a few birds tested ,its worth the expense for piece of mind to know what your up against .Treatment will be swift when you know the score .Dont waste any more time on here with guesses mate as thats what they are . -
One proud dad and so you should be .Know the feeling mate .My boy of 10 regularly comes along and apart the really irritating tangles he is a good angler with a few good fish to his name already .
