  1. Middleton ,white throw backs Pity he cant throw back the years to a time before he laid hands on a dog and went the racing pigeon route . White lakies been an embarrasement for decades
  2. Correct me if im wrong but wasnt the fox terrier added to improve jaw line ,as if the lakies of yesteryear needed that
  3. Once youve experienced the fighting qualities of a barbel it becomes an addiction ,or would have if i never married .The barbel has the first run of a 20+ pike combined with the bottem hugging of a 20+ carp ,and those over a pound and a half are worse
  4. Yes mate ,BUT,why cross in the first place if other examples of the breed are doing the job as well if not better .There are very good dogs of each earth working breed and i include borders and beddies in this . Why set out to create the unknown is beyond me .
  5. Whats that staff seen to make you want to use it as a cross mate ?
  6. Farmers money stopped by government ,bollocks and you know it .Whos this fecking joker anyway .The more i read from his hand ,the more i have my doubts .
  7. Hybrid vigour ,that seems to be the word of the month ,can be attained by breeding within a line as well as to something vastly different .For instance -Two lads breeding a line from the same source ,both outcrossing to a different sourse periodically and then get in touch by one means or another and use a mating of the same line to reinforce the gene =hybrid vigour-Recommended .
  8. I was going to say that but cant spell phenon......either My argument is that in todays advanced communication era ,there is no excuse for not looking for a same breed or even same line to put your worker to .No excuse not to see the sire /dam work either.Thats what sites like this do/should promote. Ive found a sire for an outcross on here, and if i can anyone can .
  9. Interesting thread Swansea and you will get some interesting replies too .I would say its part curiosity and part not knowing the whereabouts of a suitable sire/dam of the same breed .The trouble in this from my point of veiw is that of throwbacks that look like one or the other and are often passed off as such ,only to throw back again when bred in the future .Some will say what does it matter if its worker to worker but to me it does .
  10. Is that one in hard antler mate .Our fallow are still very much in velvet .
  11. Perhaps he wanted to impress the missus .Works for me .Piss taker .
  12. Any smelly bait mate .More to do with where you site said cage .Good luck .
  13. Your definately on form mate ,good to see .Hope to meet you in September when i come up to Marks .
  14. A good shot mate at an awkward angle behind a swath of straw .A pleasure
  15. The breeding of a line of workers is the basics for easy entering ,and vice versa, self entering should,IMO, be the base stone for a line of terrier .Coaxing a dog to ground will not ,hardly ever ,result in a worker that sticks to its task .Darcy sums it up by saying a terrier should see its time underground as part of its life in general ,should be natural .
  16. no am no sayin that.. take it your not much into bring up terriers ma man Entering properly yes ,breeding any old no
  17. For my part it is linebreeding to proven stock ,stuff that has thrown its fair share of workers with mininum waste and yes ,they are out there .Line breeding is misunderstood by a lot of people and used to promote the sale of too many dogs every year .Line breeding IS NOT the continuous inbreeding of stock as some would have you believe and has been the ruination of many a good line .Inbreeding eventually goes stale .Line breeding requires the introduction of RELATED blood at chosen intervals but thats another topic . All linebreeds benifit from the introduction of unrelated outcross to intr
  18. I for one would wholeheartedly endorse a cull on badgers .Where i live they now outnumber rabbits [not joking].The majority of farmers are at their wits end but our hands are tied .I recently went to see a farm that had roughly 1 1/2 acres of maize flattened by them .The farmer said it was deer but i found evidence to support otherwise .They are no respectors of electric fencing either and have nosed up a mesh fence on another piece of permission to get at the vegetables on a market garden. Many farmers have movement restrictions on them due to tb reacters which is definately linked to the inc
  19. Hi mate .Great to see the looks on peoples faces when they get a first .The stubbles are holding up everything this year including the foxing but it will all come good sooner or later .
  20. Why not have a purge on the cats before hand mate .You dont have to kill them ,just trap in one of the many feral live catchers and re-locate .Alternatively ,put a smelly baited cage near the crow catcher and kill two birds with one stone ,so to speak . I do know ,as you will know probably ,that some cats get trap bound , that is to say that they will be caught in the same trap ,same bait ,same place, time and time again and you have no chioce but to re-locate to a hole in the ground .Good luck with your trapping and keep us posted .
  21. Dont envy anyone buying in wheat next year .This harvest has been so hit and miss ,bound to push prices up next year .
